Farm Boy Part II
A quick follow-up on Thursday’s post city-based stereotypes:
I read an article in the paper Friday about a book called Who’s Your City, by Richard Florida. Florida is an “economic geographer,” who has gathered data about common personality traits within certain geographical regions.
According to the article , “Chicago has a strong concentration of extroverts, or people who are ‘outgoing, talkative, gregarious, assertive, enthusiastic and seeking excitement.’ ”
There’s also a interesting bust to NYC, which of course, a Chicago-based newspaper can’t help but make, so I recommend reading the article.
I wonder if the book will be any good. Or have any validity. I may have to pick up a copy.
I guess I’m left wondering what’s the point? I mean, why would one buy a book like that? To help them figure out where to move? To slam cities they hate? I think it’s interesting for an article, but to me doesn’t offer enough meat for a book.
Nilsa S. – That is what I was wondering too. The sub-title makes it seem like you are supposed to use the book to help you decide where to live and maximize your creativity? Who would read a book to figure THAT out? I think I would read it to see if I agree AT ALL with what he is saying 😉
Well, I don’t fit in Chicago, except for the excitement-seeking. Could you let me know where people who are quiet, naturally shy but fabulous actresses about it, and allergy-ridden should live? 🙂
Cat. – I will let you know when I read the book 😉 Do you have it at your library?
Not yet. I’m ordering it, though. (Pays to ask your library to buy stuff, eh) (OK, we’re not really YOU’re local library, but….you can see if yours does here. 😀
Cat. – Sniff. Round Lake isn’t on the list. Maybe I will request an interlibrary loan… hmm…
