I’ve Just Seen A Face

Guess what was ready for me to pick up last night…

I worked and went to high school with this really annoying, know-it-all kid who thought he was better than me… and liked to bowl. He always talked about bowling at work. His high score, his new bowling ball, his bowling shirt, blah blah blah. Oh my gosh! I just wanted to punch him in the face. I think a lot of people did.

Poor kid.

So I always kind of thought that bowling was for geeky know-it-alls who didn’t like to associate with the rest of society, or really know how to have fun.

But Steven likes to bowl, and he’s not like that at all. And I actually enjoy bowling with him. And I get to look at his cute little butt when he gets up for his turn.

Anyway, I found out I was wrong about bowling. So… how did I end up with my own bowling ball?

Steven has wanted one for awhile, so I thought, “what the heck, if he is getting serious about it, I might as well give it a shot, so we can have something fun to do in common.”

But I honestly didn’t think a custom bowling ball would improve my game at all. For me, bowling is all about having fun, and not being too serious about the score. My high is usually somewhere between 40-60.

With this new ball though, all 3 of my games were over 100! Now, that isn’t much for someone who has been bowling for a long time, but for me, it’s a BIG deal. I felt like the new ball just glided off my hand, down the lane… beautifully.

Maybe that kid was so excited about bowling because it actually is that much fun? Or maybe I just had an “on” night…

Hmmm maybe a custom ball would improve my game cuz right now I suck! 😉

Cool! I’d love to take up bowling again.

Having the right weight ball can make a lot of difference in your game. Not having all the dings of a lane ball surely helps too. Way to go!

If you have a consistent throw and can figure out which arrows (’bout midway down the lane) you should aim at or between, you’ll be golden. A bowling savvy bud of mine told me where I should be aiming, and it amped my game up. (My best score is still only somewhere between 160-170 though.)

I had a friend who worked for Brunswick as a computer programmer for some years. Just before he left, he gave us all a catalog and told us to order whatever we wanted with his discount. I got a new ball. It’s been sitting in our closet for three or four years. I still have to drill the holes in the stupid thing. I’d love to get back into bowling. Katie and I haven’t gone in about five years. But it would be fun. Another group outing with D and E?

Oh my gosh, I love bowling— would love to be on a league 🙂

My 100 Things About Me Meme is finally up– feel free to stop by! Thanks for your help!

I went bowling a couple of weeks ago! Had not bowled in years. I had forgotten how much fun it was!

Oh, another good way to improve your game; get a pitcher of beer! That always works for me 🙂 So glad you found something that you both can enjoy together! My husband takes the kids bowling too – I go every once and a while but I like to just play one game, after that my thumb starts to hurt 🙁

sizzle – Give it a try!

Lisa – Does your son like to play? Maybe it would be fun to go together!

Claire – The thing is, now I don’t want MY ball to get all dinged up. It got scratched after my first throw! Steven assured me it would be OK. I should try aiming at the arrows in the lane though…

kapgar – We need to get that ball out, and drilled! I would love to go with you and Katie, D and E. I’ll shoot you an email!

Bethany – I hope we are able to join a league. It should be a fun way to meet new people.

Robin – That is kind of how it was for me – we went recently with my sis and even though I stunk, I still had fun.

Lumpy – I’ll have to try that beer thing 😉 That is what everyone keeps telling me!

I bowled league for years, and it’s amazing how much good having a ball fit especially to you can do. I used to bowl in a tournament in the Chicago area every year, and bowled nationals several times – even won money!

    Glad you’re enjoying it.

  10. i think that’s awesome that you kicking a$$ now that you have your own ball, which i might add, i love!!! i love to bowl too but i am horrible at it and we only have one place in town to bowl… YAY for you and Steven bowling together, that’s awesome and sounds like a lot of fun!!!
    🙂
