Red all over

By , January 31, 2008 5:31 am

I keep on getting a bloody nose during my nightly shower. I am standing there, pretending to clean myself while Steven uses a stopwatch to time my shower, when BAM! there is blood all over the bath.

Okay, that’s pretty gross.

But really, what’s the deal? I read that “heated indoor air dries out the nostrils” and causes nose bleeds… but why now? I don’t remember ever getting them when I was young! So now when I do get them, I am always surprised, even though, yes, it always happens at the same time.

Does this mean I need a humidifier or something? Or do I just need to quit picking my nose?

Well, you should quit picking your nose anyway, it’s gross. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I was having the same problem the beginning of January. It was after a cold, but my nose would start bleeding out of nowhere all throughout the day!
Definitely get a humidifier. I don’t know what kind of heat you have–if it’s radiator, put some pans of water on the radiators. Put a pot of boiling water on the stove and a towel over your head and inhale. Try a saline nasal spray as well. Just plain old salt and water. Anything else (I found) will burn your nose.
Hope this helps, I have totally been there!

If you’re getting them in the shower where I assume there’s a lot of humidity building from the steam of the shower, I wouldn’t think a humidifier would be the cure. But what do I know? If it were me, I’d be calling the doctor for some advice.

  3. hhhmmmm…. i get nosebleeds on occasion in the winter but they never occur in the shower… (although that would be the ideal place for them to happen instead of all over my pillow and pillowcase or my shirt!) maybe you should check with the dr. just to see what he says… (unless you’re just that ferocious of a picker!) ๐Ÿ™‚

when i first read this post i had just woken up and i was confused. why is she pretending to shower and being timed by her husband? shaking the sleep out of my head, i get it now. it was touch and go there for a minute. ๐Ÿ˜‰

i’d say see a doctor. i’ve never had a nosebleed but with it being so consistent and the fact that you never had them before, you should get checked out. just to be safe.

diane – we have been talking about getting a humidifier… I think this is a pretty good excuse to get one! (PS, I only pick my nose with a tissue, in the bathroom! ha ha)

Lisa – maybe the steam opens something up that was all dried up before and that is why the blood comes out? I am confused too ๐Ÿ™

CourtneyInControl – after I got out of my shower, I stuffed my nose with tissue. After awhile, I took the tissue out, and the blood got all over my robe ๐Ÿ™ I thought I was done but I guess not…

sizzle – ha ha! That was a reference to my Oct 1 post… which may have been before you were reading! I realized that was confusing after I posted it. I think you are all right, I should ask the doctor if it continues. Because it’s starting to freak me out!

  6. see what happens when you get timed when taking a shower…nosebleeds! Tell Steven to stop putting so much pressure on you, lol!

Have a lil chat with your vet…err…doctor and see whats up.

btw, totally unrelated but does Data have a bell on his collar?

  7. oh wait, Data does have a bell, you already told me that. Someone left a comment on manohmanny saying that bells probably annoy cats. I’ll have to do some research on that.

My wife, daughter and grandson have been having the same thing. One of my co-workers started blathering on about getting a humidifier, so I’d imagine that’s the cure. Personally, I’d vote for nose-picker but I’m not real smart. ๐Ÿ™‚

Gina (Mannyed) – I wish I could just get hosed down instead of going to all the work of a shower! HA HA!! I have wondered about the bell myself; I would be annoyed if I had a bell jingling on my neck everywhere I went! Data is all stealth-like without the collar ๐Ÿ˜‰

ajooja – I used to pick my nose all the time when I was a kid! HA HA HA!!! I think there are tons of photos of me with my finger in my nose. Now, I just blow my nose all the time. It’s not the same ๐Ÿ™ jk!

Scott swears he can get showered and dressed in 20 minutes. Um, yeah, it takes him a good 22 just to shower. He takes the longest showers of anyone, especially men, that I have ever known. Sometimes I’m tempted to get a timer just to prove to him he really doesn’t get ready that fast.

  11. Jodi says:

Why does Steven time your shower?

  12. kilax says:

Jenn – Steven is the same way. He actually takes longer than me to get ready! Ha ha.

Jodi – he doesn’t really time me. It is a joke based on my Oct 1post about how I hate to take showers and Steven is always telling me to spend more time in the shower!

I had it at the end of the year last year……

A humidifier works, it is a pain in the neck to remember turn it on/off/on/off and such but helps with the dried out nose thing.

    Good Luck ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Get thee a humidifier immediately! Also add more water to your diet. It should help you. Hope it clears up soon!

  15. kapgar says:

    Could be both…

Nice new photo, BTW. Miss the wedding one, but this is pretty cool, too.

  16. kilax says:

Felicia – Steven is looking into some sort of humidifier that attaches to our vents… so with this tax return money, we can purchase it!

FrancesDanger – I didn’t think about water! Good idea!

kapgar – ha ha. It seems better; the last one I got was on Thursday. Well, I haven’t had a FULL-ON bleed since Thursday, just blood in my nose. Thanks about the photo. The wedding one will probably be back after awhile… I just wanted to try something new ๐Ÿ˜‰
