Damn Sneaky Marketing

Which stores send you weekly (and sometimes daily) ad and coupon emails? Please let me know who is sending out great deals that I am missing out on!

I get emails from New York & Company, Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, Borders, Barnes & Noble, and White House | Black Market (WHBM).

Damn WHBM and their marketing campaign. For the last two Thursdays they have sent me pictures of women modeling their dresses, while holding a cat. Apparently, all it takes to pique my interest in a product is a picture of a cat,* because I have visited their site after both emails. Is it more sad that I am admitting this, or that I am hoping one of you can relate (it doesn’t have to be a cat – anything cute and cuddly!)?

  1. LOL!!! I can relate… and now, if I want to try to sell you something I will include a picture of a kitty!!!! (or something else cute and furry!!) That is pretty tricky and creative though!!!

Look at the way they’re holding them, though, like “Listen, kitty, don’t you dare get cat hair on my dress.” The cats might be cuddly, but the models aren’t.

I recently signed up for Shop It To Me (I just sent you an invitation email). It’s pretty cool because it lets you pick the stores and the types of items and sends you an email with all the stuff that’s on sale that fits your criteria.

I also get emails from Ann Taylor, Express, and Old Navy. Although, I mostly delete them before I even look at what they are trying to sell me.

I got that catelogue and since we have a black and white cat it totally made me lust after most items, especially the shoes.

I get emails from places like JCrew all the time, but since I rarely buy clothes, I usually end up deleting them.

That said, if the emails included more French bulldogs, I’d definitely go look at the clothes being advertised.

I don’t sign up for many because they are evil and I buy stuff. Heh.

Look at the way the model on the right is holding that cat! She needs to be supporting its chest and rump for it to be safe and comfortable. I think that would make me NOT want to shop there.
