Data’s Friday Question #77 Follow-Up

By , August 28, 2009 11:22 pm

Data has his own answer to today’s Friday Question. His favorite pillow is… my foot.

He cleans it almost daily, but doesn’t take it with him when he travels.

And he also wants to share his sleeping habits – he sometimes sleeps upside down:

image:Memory foam pillowWhat kind of pillow do you like to use? How often do you get a new pillow? Do you bring a pillow when you travel?

Another strange question, right? Well, this came to mind because I have two people in my family who are very peculiar about pillows (hello Mom and Steven), but I will let them tell their own story.

I like soft pillows, but not so soft that your head sinks right through them to the mattress. I have been using this cheap-o memory foam contour pillow from Target for about four years now. I like to put a flat pillow underneath it, then let the front of the contour pillow slide off a little bit. The only time I’ve replaced it is when I came back from Rome, because it got stinky.

Data really likes this pillow too. If I leave him alone in the bedroom, I will come back to find lots of tiny teeth marks in it, and in my pillowcase. Thanks Data!

I always bring a pillow with me when I travel, unless I am going on an airplane (too inconvenient) or to my Aunt Sue’s house (because I really like her pillows).

image:Shredded OatsWhat is your favorite (cold) cereal?

You know, the one you could just eat bowls and bowls of*?

I really like Barbara’s Bakery Shredded Oats. They are simple, crunchy little oat nuggets. I like to let them soak in the soy milk just a little bit, then bite into them when they are half crunchy/half soggy. Nom Nom Nom!

The unfortunate thing about this cereal is that it is EXPENSIVE, and somewhat hard to find. They used to sell it at Target, and would have it on sale from time to time… but you know how our Target is. They took it away.

Now I usually get it from my Grandma, who buys it in bulk through a co-op. I don’t think it is that much more cost effective for her, but it is for me – she gives it to me for free**! Too bad I only see her a few times a year.

*I apologize for ending a sentence in a preposition. Sometimes, I don’t know how to get away from it.
**I keep trying to pay her for it, but you know how grandmas are…

What’s your perfect summer day?

Have I asked this before? Probably. Well, my perfect summer day is a day on the river, eating food, swimming and napping – a day like today! We’re at my parent’s cabin on the Mississippi River this weekend for my birthday, and we had great warm weather today!

The newest issue of Runner’s World came right before we left last night and I enjoyed reading it on the tube (I can’t ride it yet because of my wrist).

When we got here last night I opened up the door to the bedroom we stay in and my sister and her boyfriend were sitting in the bed in the dark, waiting to surprise us! I didn’t know they were coming. I screamed when I saw her (because it’s creepy when someone is sitting on the bed and you don’t expect ANYONE to be there). I am happy we got to see them.

Steven made me Tori’s special vegan cupcakes for my birthday. So good! I heard my grandma made me a vegan cake too. I am on my way over there now to find out… nom nom nom.

I hope everyone else is having a great summer day! August 1st is always a bit depressing for me – I feel like it is the beginning of the end of summer, probably just because it is the day after my birthday.

If you could design any new ride or attraction for Walt Disney World, what would it be?

We were watching Contact last night, and when we got to the part where Ellie’s character is traveling through the “wormhole,” I thought that would make a really cool ride! It could be built like the Star Wars Flight Simulator.

image:Hot Air BalloonIf you could take a ride in a hot air balloon over any city, what city would you choose?

Definitely Rome. That seems like a silly answer since I lived there for so long, right? Well, it’s because I am so familiar with the area that I would love to travel over it. I would love to see the city streets from above and relive all of my adventures (in memory) during the ride. I would just have to make sure the ride was in the spring or fall – hot air balloon rides are, well, hot! And it is SUPER hot in Italy over the summer.

I’ve never been on a hot air balloon ride, but I would love to one day, over ANY city. And I would love to go to one of those hot air balloon festivals. The balloons are just so beautiful and fascinating!

Side Note: I would love to hear my family’s answers on this – who wants to go on a hot air balloon ride with me? I know they have them in Galena! And I would love to hear stories from people who have gone!

image:Theater MasksIf your life was made into a movie, what genre would the movie be (drama, action, romance, comedy, adventure, crime/gangster, horror, musical, science fiction, war, western, historical, family-friendly, etc.)?

I like to think that mine would be made into a comedy. Not because I am very funny, but because I find humor in a lot of the situations I am in.

Friday Question #71

image:Tree nutsWhat foods are on your “will not eat” list?

I don’t want to encourage picky eating (says the vegetarian/vegan), but I am curious to find out what foods do not appeal to other people.

Besides not eating meat, dairy and eggs, I also do not eat tree nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc.). They give me severe headaches, so I avoid them altogether. Sometimes even the smell of them is enough to make me sick.

I avoid olives, mushrooms, and seeds, because I do not care for their taste. I will still try dishes that have these foods in them, but I am probably not going to like it if they are the main ingredient!

And brussel sprouts. We tried. We really did. I think this requires another go-around.

Side Note: Why are all of my Friday Questions about FOOD? I had two other questions in mind that were NOT food related. Hmm.

Friday Question #70

Are you a breakfast eater? If yes, what is your typical breakfast?

What a weird question, right? It came to mind because I was with my sister last week and she told me that she doesn’t eat breakfast, because it makes her feel sick.

I am the exact opposite. I HAVE to eat breakfast, everyday. Even if I ate my weight in food the night before, I will still be hungry in the morning.

My typical breakfast is Quaker Old Fashioned Oats and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. I have been eating that almost everyday for a few months and haven’t gotten sick of it yet. I love oatmeal!

Friday Question #67

Which of your five senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, feel) would you least want to give up?

Or maybe it would be more interesting if I asked which of your five senses would you give up if you had to?

For me, I cannot imagine living without sight. I see all of these amazing blind people navigating the streets of Chicago with their guide dogs, or their walking cane, and I feel inspired by them and their perseverance. But I also feel sad for them, because I can only imagine what a struggle being blind is. And I feel like I would miss out on so much if I couldn’t see – so many beautiful landscapes, so many beautiful works of art, even just seeing the beautiful faces and varieties of people (and I sometimes wonder, could there be a blind architect?).

If I had to give up a sense, I think I would choose smell. I would miss out on a lot of wonderful smells, and it would affect the way food tastes to me, but I would also miss out on a lot of nasty smells.

As I am writing this, I feel like it is going into a more serious discussion than I wanted it to. I am not trying to be rude or inconsiderate, just asking if you’ve ever thought about these things. I do think about it a lot, because the woman who sits next to me at work is legally blind and deaf. She has a lot of special tools she uses to get her work done, and I am amazed by her!
