In charge of quality inspection

By , December 8, 2008 10:41 pm

Since he couldn’t help paint… he found something else to do.

<image:Data inspects the cabinet;

The medicine cabinet was a little surprise from Steven. I didn’t know we were going to put one in. Now I have a space for all of my nail polish, and makeup… with room for expansion! It’s nice to have everything in the cabinet, off the counter.

<image:OPI Collection;

Yes, I did just write a post about my cat and a medicine cabinet. Ugh.

We’re finally done working in the bathroom – painting, caulking, installing new hardware, touching up a ton of mistakes, cleaning… I am DONE DONE DONE with this project. For now. I’ll go shopping for the new shower curtain and towels, but that’s it. I need a break. I want some free time. And I am sure Steven does too, since he is doing a lot more work than I am.

Another Sunday lost

<image: Mommy, are we going to paint again today?>

Unfortunately, yes.

<image: Can I help?>

Unfortunately, no.

I am really embarrassed that I am bad at painting. And that I hate it so much. I mean, I am an architecture major. Shouldn’t I be good at these “home improvement” sort of things?

I just like to think this means I am better at telling people where and how to paint, than actually doing it myself. Ha!

Okay, I’m not really good at that either. I am not an Interior Designer, after all.

I really love the way the paint is turning out. We painted our bedroom a dark greenish/brownish/gray – Valspar’s Seine. We have an accent wall behind the bed that is even darker – Valspar’s Italian Leather. That is the color we painted the bathroom today – the Italian Leather. I LOVE dark rooms, so I am super excited about this.

<image: valspar's seine> <image: valspar's italian leather>

Seine and Italian Leather. They look nothing like this in real life.

But why no photos? Because the bathroom isn’t finished, and because we have no bed (just mattress and frame) and the ugliest bedroom furniture you have ever seen. So I estimate you’ll see a photo of the bedroom in about… 6 months, and a photo of the bathroom… maybe later this week.

On Friday we hung out and spent the night with my friend Alejandra and her husband Sony in Des Moines. She is the other bridesmaid of mine that I have not seen in over a year! AHH!

Anyway, we obviously had a great time and I really, really wish we could see them more. We both do. They are a unique couple – she’s from Puerto Rico, and he is Chinese, but from Venezuela… they are fun to be around. We have a lot in common, but they have a different perspective on some things.

Yes, this has a point. They moved into a new-to-them townhome in July and I could tell they put a lot of thought and hard work into decorating it and making it homey. They were talking about the last time they saw our place and that we didn’t even have a dining room table. Ha! Steven and I have done so much work together on our home since the wedding, it really feels homey, like it is “ours” now (instead of just his). It was fun to talk about all the work we have done with them because they could relate and… I could tell they were actually listening (another reason I like them!).

It’s amazing to see your home come together. Because, unless you are rich… you can’t really afford to get everything/do everything you want all at once. But maybe I wouldn’t even prefer it that way. I like that we have made it what it is. Even if I haven’t loved every minute of it!

How Data likes to play with his toys

By , November 25, 2008 12:30 pm

That’s normal, right?

Extra credit to anyone who can figure out what movie was playing in the background and tell me how many cat toys are in the video!

(Sorry for the double post. It seemed like Christina and Steven were going to be upset if I didn’t share this video)

Datatello Versace

We were kind of upset when we found out that Data has been chewing an array of holes in the fleece blanket we leave out on our couch.

But then Steven realized that Data is really just an aspiring fashion designer!

The design from the front…

… and the back!

Now what we really need to decide before Steven starts wearing it in public – should he add a belt?

My bad hearing is still… bad

By , November 4, 2008 4:47 am

Data looked particularly mopish last evening while Steven and I were using our computers, so I asked (okay, told, I was being bossy) Steven to get a new toy out for Data to play with.

Steven grabbed the little box we keep Data’s toy collection in out of the linen closet. He sat down with it on the floor and Data rushed over. I walked over to see what he had in stock. Lots of plastic balls, catnip, felt mice and one lone feather.

I grabbed the feather and bent over to run it in circles around Data on the floor. He chased it over and over again, until I stopped and stood up, then pulled it up my leg to try to get him to jump up on me and grab it.

“Look at how big your thighs are!” Steven said.

I stopped. And looked at him. And thought. I do have bad hearing, so I sometimes don’t know what Steven is saying. And I don’t always ask him to repeat himself, because that is annoying, and I can usually figure out what he said if I think about it a bit. But I had to ask this time.

“What did you say?” I asked a bit cautiously.

He looked at me and repeated, “Look at how big his eyes are.”

Not a fan

Data just attacked my foot/ankle while I was playing the guitar (solo) on Rock Band.

Jeez, Data. Tell me how you really feel about the game.

Of course, I was too into the song to stop playing, but I did to yell at him. Now I have a long diagonal scratch that goes from my ankle to my foot.

I think the most I have even played Rock Band consecutively is for about an hour. When we are home enough to play for longer periods of time, we’re doing other things.

<image: Purr Pals Wii Which is fine with me. I don’t need to devote a ton of time to it. But Data gets so jealous when we turn it on. He sulks, and sits on the living room floor, far away from us, but so that we can still see him, with his back to us.

I guess he wouldn’t be too happy if I bought the Purr Pals game!

Treadmills: They’re not just for cats with glowing eyes anymore!

Thanks for the lolcat, Christina

Coincidentally, my infrequent posting corresponds directly to the increase of daily exercise in my life.

Instead of my usual evening routine of eating dinner then lounging somewhere with my computer, I am now eating dinner, exercising, taking a shower… and maybe turning my computer on to check my email.

But it’s more than that. My “quietness” seems to have seeped into real life as well. People I see every day are asking me “Is something wrong?” “Is everything okay?” “Why have you been so quiet lately?”

Nothing’s wrong. Everything is okay, and actually, I feel happy! But I don’t know why I’ve felt so quiet lately. All I know is, I don’t quite feel like myself.

If that makes any sense.

The reasons I was so tired at work today

By , July 31, 2008 7:00 pm

1. I skipped my morning and afternoon nap on the train yesterday ( was reading a book).
2. Then I stayed up until 1:00 making Fruit Pizza and writing the previous post (I would have done it earlier but it was league night).
3. Then I woke up at 2:00 to use the bathroom and found these:

<image: Rock Band!>

(Not Data, although he DID trip me on the way out. I just think all pictures look better with him in them, don’t you? But why does this picture look so YELLOW?!)

Yes, these are Rock Band drumsticks! Did my immature and childish continual-hinting throughout the entire month of July pay off?

<image: Rock Band!>

It sure did!

I ran to the bed and said (shrieked?) to (sleeping) Steven “What are these?!?!” I wonder if he wanted me to find them in the morning… he probably didn’t plan on getting out of bed at 2:00 in the morning to play with the new Wii and Rock Band game for about an hour.

But if I would have found them in the morning, all of that fruit pizza would have gone to waste. Because I would have called in sick to play with the Wii all day.

So, I am tired because I woke up for an hour to play Wii then…

4. I had to get up at 4:30 to catch an earlier train to make it to a meeting on time.

Ugh. You do the math.

The good news is, I still have enough energy to play Rock Band tonight. Now, I know it is lame to write about a video game, especially one that other people have been raving about for sometime now, but I really REALLY wanted this game. I had dreams about it. I thought about it at work. I talked to everyone I know about it. And now, I have it! Thanks Steven (and I promise, I will still exercise with you – outside)!

Warning to future house guests

By , July 23, 2008 10:10 pm

Notice anything funny about my shoe in the picture below (not that it is old, dirty and worn out)?

<image: Kim's messed up shoe>

Yes, one of shoelace bows is missing.

Let me tell you a little bit about Data’s shoe fetish.

One time, Steven bought an expensive pair of shoes at the Kenneth Cole store downtown. Over $200 expensive. He only wore them on days he had to look “dressy” at work. I don’t know if they were very comfortable or not, but they sure looked nice on him.

Data didn’t think they looked so nice. He chewed them up during the night. Maybe Data just has expensive taste? That was the end of those shoes, anyway.

Steven learned his lesson – he shouldn’t leave his shoes out overnight. Now, he takes his shoes upstairs every night, to protect them.

Whenever Steven forgets his shoes downstairs, Data is drawn to them. Steven often unties the laces in the morning to find out he now has 2 extra, loose, pieces of shoelace. Or little bite marks around his shoes. Or toys in them. I always leave mine downstairs, because Data seems to leave them alone (probably because they stink so much).

Well, not anymore. After one year of living here, he finally pulled the shoelace trick on me, only this time, he left me with one bow on each shoe, instead of killing both. How nice.

He hasn’t attacked any of our house guests’ shoes yet, but don’t say I didn’t warn you!
