Because today was a “three good things” sort of day. In lame, adult, fashion:
Good thing #1: We accidentally washed and dried a white blanket and some stains we didn’t know about set on it. But they came out! WOOT!
(Not this blanket but you get the idea)
Good thing #2: The deed transfer at our old townhome is official. You know, the one we sold in December? Err… after the “sale” Steven would sometimes say he didn’t feel like it was official. Well, he was right, somewhat! We got the tax bill for our old place at the new one and were a bit “huh?!” Researching this led us to find out the deed transfer got messed up, but it’s fixed as of today! We don’t have to pay property taxes in two places, ha (we never really would have, you just worry when you see these things!).
Good thing #3: And speaking of property taxes, we successfuly got our home accessed at what we paid for it so ours will be going down! This is huge, as our taxes are well, HUGE! We were pretty sure we’d have to have a hearing but apparently the evidence we submitted was sufficient! Yay!
And that concludes my list of lame things to be excited about, ha!
(Steven is mixing up different batches of mortar to try to match the one on the house so he can do some brick work, and he was kind enough to make this for me! Ha!)
I did some major adulting this week at work and increased my life insurance coverage (we’re in a rare open season). Why does making these types of decisions always feel so intimidating (and therefore, get put off)?
With all the CK talk, Data wants me to remind you that he’s cute, too (even if he forgot his glasses).
But if you came here for a CK update, she does let us pet her now! It’s been raining hard here, so we tried to get her to come in the garage last night. She came in for a bit but didn’t stay the night. Baby steps.
I mentioned a headboard we got for our guest bedroom but weren’t sure about… well, we ended up setting it up. It grew on us a bit, and we determined we couldn’t afford the ones we like better. The long term plan is to make a new one when we have a workshop set up. My coworker suggested a splash of color (since I refuse to change out the bedspread we just got) – I think that’s a good idea! The room looks a bit muted now.
Hey, respect! I used to respond to all of these random emails asking me to promote stuff on my blog with “no thanks” just to be nice. But some of them are so bad I just file them away. And sometimes, they email you again – “did you get my first email? can we work out a deal?” “No, because I don’t promote random sh*t on my blog because someone asked me to… respect.”
What is the deal with Amazon Prime lately? If I try to order something Wednesday morning, free two day shipping is NOT a Monday arrival. I decided to buy the thing in person, then we found out we couldn’t, so Steven went to order it last night on Amazon Prime (we share an account) and it said it will arrive this Friday. Huh?! FWP.
Not sure who this is from, but I appreciate the nice words when I woke up Tuesday am.
And finally, the stormy weather has been so beautiful this week!
Fall weather arrived in Chicagoland on Monday! Yay!
Lower temps, lower humidity and dew point, cloudy skies and windy! I’m loving it!
Let’s hope the cool weather stays around for the marathon!
Steven and I have A LOT of projects to do around the house before the real cold weather comes – planting grass seed, sealing up the house, etc. I am most excited about the non-crucial project of getting the gas starter fixed for the fire places so we can use it!
My baby is at the vet today to get his teeth cleaned. I’m always nervous when they have to put him under! I will anxiously be awaiting the call to come pick him up!
CK is visiting the house a few times a day now! She even got close to me yesterday! We’ve been assuming she is stray, because we can’t imagine letting a cat roam free here with the coyotes and cars… but who knows. She looks healthy, so maybe she is someone’s cat?
That knitting project I was havinga few issues with (because I am not paying close enough attention, honestly – I’ve learned that now!) is going to be a baby blanket for my snister. It’s a beautiful chevron pattern. I can’t wait to see it finished! I’m loving working on it, despite the few hiccups (and my freakouts over those are me just wanting it to be perfect for my snis!). And I definitely feel grateful to have the time to sit down and knit!!!
I’ve only worked for the federal government under one administration (well, I started with a month left of Bush), and am really curious how things will change next January!
I must be in a bit of a funk this week, because all the small things are making me stabby. Small things like when you put something somewhere and it immediately falls on the ground. STAB. Small things like feeling cramped on Metra and having people bump in to you. STAB. Small things like not being able to figure out how to fix one stitch (ONE!!!) then spending two hours trying to figure it out*. STAB STAB STAB. Sigh. Knitting is supposed to relax me. What the eff is my problem this week?!
Get a grip, Kim.
*I finally reached out to the pro and mostly fixed it, but have no idea how I effed it up, sigh.
Skamp 2016 was awesome! We fit in three runs (including one across state borders, and two by the cloud factory),
one bike ride,
a trip to the beach,
lots of yummy food and drinks (once, ha),
a few shopping trips and LOTS of relaxation time. It was such a nice break for me from work and house projects. The whole time I kept thinking how lucky I was that Gina was able to come and stay for three whole days – we were able to catch up and connect on so many things. What a treat and great chance to unplug! I can’t wait until she comes back, with the boys, for the Chicago Marathon!
When I went to my hometown on Sunday, I was able to get the first picture of me and my FOUR nephews*!!!
I am beyond thrilled for my snister and her husband. They’re going to be amazing parents, and I can’t wait to meet their little guy in the end of January!!!
*By blood – I have another nephew (Luca!) via friendship (but we’re basically family).
It’s a million degrees here (88°, feels like 97°, dew point 74°) so I stopped at 7-Eleven after my run to buy a sports drink. I got in line at the counter, behind one other person, then got cut in line, by their friend who was all “where’d you go? I was looking all over for you!” and had their own separate stuff to buy.
Sigh. But whatever, right? No big deal.
Except I was drenched in sweat and the store was crowded, and the first person was taking forever to count out their change and I just wanted to get out of there and rehydrate and take a shower…
So when it’s the second person’s turn to pay, I am off in la la land thinking “I hope they’re paying with a credit card!” and “I am going to b*tch to Steven about getting cut in line” when that customer grabs my drink, gives it to the cashier, and tells her “it’s on me” since I was so sweet to let her cut and let them get on their way. Then she said a bunch of nice things to me and to enjoy my run (I was done but the thought was nice).
I was shocked. I was NOT expecting that. And now I am inspired to do my own random act of kindness today… but not after cutting someone in line, ha.
