Did you ever wear one of those livestrong, or livestrong-inspired rubber wristbands? What did it say? Do you still wear it?
I never had a livestrong wristband, but I do have four other “copycats.”
- “Sortez de l’ordinaire” – a purple band I bought in Montreal… and have forgotten what it means. A little help?
- “Breast Cancer Awareness” – a pink band I bought at Wal-Mart! I hope they gave something to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for selling them.
- “Animal Rights” – a blue band… can you guess where I bought THAT one?
- “Donate Life/Done Vida” – a green band my aunt gave me after her husband passed away and was an organ donor.
I still wear the green one from time to time, but that’s it.
What is the greatest distance you have ever driven in a single day? What do you do to keep yourself entertained while in the car, whether you’re the driver/passenger, alone/with someone?
The longest distance I have personally driven in one day is the 530 miles between Kansas City, MO and Round Lake, IL. I went to KC with a friend of mine for the beginning of Spring Break, then we drove all the way to Steven’s house, and her boyfriend picked her up there and took her to Indianapolis. I think I have traveled much further in a single day, maybe with my family on road trips, but never driven that far on my own.
When I’m driving alone, I keep myself entertained by singing along to the radio or cds. When I’m with someone, it’s usually Steven, so we talk almost the whole way there, whoever is driving. I like to do SuDoku and logic puzzles, and read books and magazines, but I never seem to be doing those things when I am the passenger (I like to sleep too, but I try not to!).
Side Note: I apologize for being so far behind in responding to comments here and reading other blogs. It’s been “one of those weeks”!
Are you doing anything to cut back on expenses during this “economic recession”?
There is this daily feature in the newspaper about how people are saving money during these “hard times of recession.” They’re eating out less, quitting smoking, taking public transit, blah blah blah.
Has anyone directly noticed the effects of the increase in fuel and food, etc., and is actively planning a way to cut back on spending?
We have started saving bowling coupons, and only going bowling when it is cheap or when we have a coupon. At most places, it is at least $4 a game! We have coupons for $1 a game, so that helps. Heh.
But otherwise, we have not changed much of our habits, yet. We both tend to… buy things when we want them. We’ll wait on some big items, and we research the things we are going to buy, but we usually don’t hesitate. Maybe that will change. And maybe we’ll start eating out less.
Which celebrity would you pick to be our next president?
Natalie Portman!
Are you at all surprised?
I think she’s compassionate, rational, smart, and attractive (heh, heh).
Oh wait. She’s not 35, and wasn’t born in the US (but her mom was from the US, so maybe that’s okay?).
She’s the only celebrity whose political views I know, so I am going to have to rely on your suggestions…
If you could be the spokesperson for any product on the market, which product would you choose to enthusiastically represent?
Boca’s Meatless Chik’n Patties.
I don’t know why, but this is the one boca food I never get sick of, and actually crave. You fry one of these patties in a pan for 12 minutes (flipping occasionally), then throw it on a bun, with a bit of mayo, some big pickles and lettuce… heavenly… drool.
(The Morningstar Corn Dogs are runner up. Oh gosh, those are so good – when you make them in the oven. The interesting thing about these soy products is that they always test better in the pan or oven, almost never the microwave. Oh, and I can’t forget the Morningstar Black Bean Burger – yummy! Alright, that’s enough of that!)
If your parents were in a movie, who’d play them?
I am going to answer based on personality, not looks.
I would cast Harrison Ford as my father, because he seems a little rough, and is a smart-ass, and a bit of a recluse. My dad is 14 years younger than Harrison Ford, but Ford’s still got it. Duh! Who else plays action figures at age 66?
And for my mother, hmm… I need to think of an actor who is a bit crazy, but super nice… maybe Didi Conn who played Frenchy in Grease? Ha ha, I haven’t seen her in anything recently! But she seems excited, and sincere, like my mother.
If you could “uninvent” any past invention, which one would it be? (Consider all the ramifications of eliminating the invention.)
The Alarm Clock. It’s a not a responsible answer, but think of how much better you would feel if you woke up naturally, with the sun, rather than to some beeping or loud music! Maybe it would change our society, and everyone would be more lax with work hours and deadlines.
Okay, let’s just get rid of clocks altogether!
Would you open a department/specialty store credit card just to save money on a purchase? How much would it have to save you – $10, $50, $100, $500+?
I am annoyed by the sales clerks at Target / Macy’s / wherever that continually ask me to open a credit card, and try to entice me by saying, “It will save you $20 off your purchase today!”
Guess what? $20 isn’t enough for me. It’s gotta be at least $100. And even then… I’m not so sure.
My sister worked at Sears for awhile and was required to open a certain amount of new credit cards a month. Any insight into this?
Aside from your family, friends or pets, what would be the most difficult thing for you to give up in your life?
Reading. I love having something to read, something to keep me entertained. When I lived in Italy, I was constantly in search of printed items in English… just because I missed having something fresh to read everyday. I get bored on the train, or airplane, just sitting there, feeling like I have nothing to do.
What is your relationship like with your family? Do you live in the same town? How often do you see them/communicate with them?
Hi, my name is Kim and I am being nosy. But I’m curious, so what the hell.
I’ve always gotten along with my family – except for maybe two years in high school. Of course, those were my depressed/rebellious years, so it’s my own fault. I can’t imagine what it was like to be my parents then.
My family lives in Iowa. I think if I averaged out all the times I see them a year, it would be 6-8 times a year. But I talk to my mom at least a few times a week, and send a few emails back and forth to other people. I miss my sister a lot.
Steven’s family lives in Kansas City and we really only see them 3 or 4 times a year. We talk to them maybe once a month. Good thing my brother-in-law started a blog or I would have no idea what the hell was going on in his life.
So, I am wondering… is it common to be this disconnected from your family? It doesn’t bother me too much, but I am wondering what other people’s routines are.
