Do you follow the wash instructions on your clothing?
Yesterday, I realized the pants I bought last weekend are “dry clean only.” I asked Steven, “Do you think I can put these dry clean only pants in the washer?”
“No.”
I guess that means I will ( be having him) take them to the dry cleaner.
I thought about this a bit, and realized I follow the instructions on my clothing when I first get them… to keep them “fresh” and “new,” but after awhile, it’s sort of a free for all. I’ll just throw a ton of random stuff in the washer, and hope for the best. I’m not mixing color-families, but I sure as hell am not reading those wash tags anymore.
Are you a creature of habit, food wise? Do you eat the same thing everyday? Are there any foods/drinks, you feel like you have to consume on a daily basis? Or… do you like some variety?
Since I am on the “healthy lifestyle” quest, I am very conscious of what I consume everyday. I generally eat a rotation of the same food groups each day – vegetables, whole grains, fruit, (soy) protein – but I try to eat a different variety within that group each day so that I don’t get bored with it.
I have to have carbohydrates everyday though – I could never give them up. I like to “graze” – eating small snacks throughout the day, rather than typical “meals,” to keep my metabolism up. I finish with a medium-sized dinner. I don’t feel like there is one food I must have on a daily basis though, except warm oatmeal at work for breakfast. It makes starting the work day so much more pleasant for me.
You know, I really hate being this conscious of food, and what I am eating all the time. It makes dining out a TOTAL headache. BUT – I am trying to enjoy life and enjoy food. I am trying not to feel guilty if I eat something that is a lot higher in calories than I normally would. And I am hoping that this will all become more natural with time. I mean, it has to!
What do you love/hate about fall?
Although it is not “officially” fall (or autumn, as I like to refer to it), it sure as hell feels like it, with these cool temperatures.
And that is what I love about fall – the cooler temperatures. It’s perfect for wearing a light jacket on a walk outside. The temperature is also perfect for running without a jacket on. It’s just a comfortable temperature all around. I don’t get sweaty walking to work or to the train.
Unfortunately, that comfortable temperature only lasts a certain amount of time!
The only thing I hate is the idea that summer is ending, and summer-fun along with it. But it’s my goal to start having “summer-fun” all year round. There’s no reason I have to lock myself in the house all fall/winter/spring! I can still get out and do things!
Why do you blog, or, why do you read blogs?
Beth just wrote a “Why I Blog” post (I love it when people write on this topic!). It reminded me of a post I wrote about the same topic a long time ago, but with a somewhat different answer.
Like Beth, I do blog to meet new people. That is one of the biggest perks! I love “knowing” people from all over the country, and even getting to meet some of them.
But that is not solely why I blog. It started as a way to keep in touch with friends and family, but now it’s more than that, at least for me.
Now it’s a place for my voice. It’s a place for me to say whatever the hell I want and not have to think twice about it OR worry about being interrupted. I waste so much time in the real world trying not to offend people OR letting them do all the talking, I feel like I should have one place where I can just be myself.
I just have to keep remembering that.
Suppose you are truly color-blind, and all you can see is black and white. Then one day you wake up and find you can see one color. Which color would you want it to be?
It’s not even my favorite color, but I have to say RED. It’s such a strong, energetic, vibrant color. It would be beautiful to see in comparison to white, grays and black.
Have you read The Giver by Lois Lowry? That has got to be one of my all-time favorite books, even though I think it is meant for little kids (the wikipedia description of the plot is pretty good).
I mention this book because (you guessed it) the people in it cannot see color. The main character discovers color, and it’s written so well… check it out if you haven’t already!
What is your favorite “outdoorsy” “summer” activity? (For example, grilling, baseball games, laying in the sun, etc.)
When it starts to get really hot, I crave going to my parent’s cabin along the Mississippi River in Iowa, where we go out on boats and jet skis, and go to beaches to play in the water. And eat lots of food (of course).
That is definitely my favorite outdoorsy activity.
And wanting to go there’s been distracting me at work for over a month.
And I’m not sure when we’ll go again…
Which magazines, if any, do you subscribe to at home? Do you have time to read them? Do you throw them away when you are done reading them?
I subscribed to a lot of magazines when I was in college – Glamour, Marie Clare, Fitness, Women’s Health – because I actually had time to read them. I’ve since added Architectural Record, Motor Trend, and (am trying to subscribe to) Entertainment Weekly.
I used to devour a magazine in one sitting, because I was eager to read something new. Now I barely find time to read anything at all – except for the newspaper, on the train. I usually (over the month) read most of Glamour and Marie Clare, but only parts of Fitness and Women’s Health – and that is if I’m feeling healthy. I skim the others.
I save them for about a year (in magazine holders on my shelf), then recycle them. Except Architectural Record. I hold on to that one for some reason.
This makes me wonder… why do I subscribe to so many? I suppose I miss them, when I don’t have them. I think I am going to drop my Fitness subscription though. It never has anything new, and I like Women’s Health much better!
If you had to wear only one pin everyday for the rest of your life, what would be on it/what would it say?
Using the “flair” application on Facebook made me think of this. It seems like the flair can actually be used to say a lot about yourself!
Kim’s Facebook flair
But what if you had to limit it to only one pin? I think mine would have something to do with my love and compassion for animals. Maybe this “I Love Animals” Pin? I think that says a lot about me, or at least gives people an idea of whether or not they’d like me!
What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
This hot weather’s got me thinking about a cold scoop (or two) of ice cream.
I love Blue Bunny’s “Birthday Party” flavored ice cream. It’s so sweet and creamy… and perfect. It feels like each bite touches all of your taste buds, as if fills your mouth with savory flavors. It reminds me a lot of Cold Stone Creamery’s “Cake Batter” flavored ice cream. Steven said it tastes “just like white birthday cake.”
My sister discovered the flavor one time when she and my family came to visit me in college. After they left, I remember scooping myself a HUGE bowl of the ice cream. I probably finished the carton that night. Steven asked why we never buy it out here – that’s probably why – NO self-control!
If you could experience someone else’s job for one day, what type of job would you choose?
I often wonder what is it like to be other people – what their day-to-day schedule is like. Maybe their job, which seems so fun to me, really isn’t.
Anyway. I am really curious about transportation. What is it like to fly a plane all day? Or drive a train all day? Is it fun, is it boring? Is this post really boring? Am I losing my mind?
