Friday Question #149

By , February 18, 2011 5:22 am

Have you ever tried hypnotherapy (being hypnotized)? What were you hoping to achieve through hypnotherapy? Did it work?

or

If given the opportunity, would you try hypnosis? What would you hope to achieve (rather, what would you work on)?

I read an interesting article in Fitness Magazine recently (read it here) about how many studies show that hypnosis works, and how you can take some of the hypnosis tools – thinking positively, managing expectations for pain, imagining a successful outcome of something stressful – and apply them to your daily life to improve performance, fight pain, get past your fears, and so on. And of course, the article mentions celebrities who have used it to lose weight, reduce anxiety, and quit smoking.

So would I try it? Sure! I am game for many things. I would probably try to use it to reduce anxiety/stress, because that seems to be where most of my issues are stemming from lately!

Thanks for all of your sweet comments on my post this Wednesday! I felt much better after reading them, knowing many of you could relate.

If you could be sponsored for any activity of your choosing, which activity would you choose, and who would you choose as your sponsors?

From here

Seriously, how cool would it be to be sponsored for doing something you love? Any activity! Athletics, arts, working on cars, reading…  sleeping… ha.

I would love to be a sponsored runner. Sign me up with Asics or Brooks, Under Armour, Sony, Gu, yeah, that would be awesome!

Okay, they probably wouldn’t want me, so I showed some of my other favorite places on my sponsor jacket just in case. Hmm, looks a bit tacky… ha ha!

Friday Question #147

Which household chores do you like and which do you try to avoid?

I will do the laundry, clean toilets, vacuum, and wash and put away clean dishes any day.

House guests – don’t worry, this (above) only happened once, over a year ago

But otherwise, keep me out of the kitchen. I HATE cleaning the stove top and mopping the floor – I think because I feel like I can never really get them clean! And dusting? No thanks!

And if paying bills was a “household chore” that would definitely be on the list too!

Friday Question #146

Which scents do you like to use for your home?

Food scents! Since Steven cooks almost every day, our house usually smells like food – and quite often something with an onion base. An onion-hater would not survive long in our home. And we like it when the house smells like food!

But we also use air fresheners and scented soap – warm vanilla sugar in the fall and winter, and cucumber melon in the spring and summer. See? Still food scents.

I also like pumpkin and blueberry scented candles. Yummy! Then there’s buttercream, french vanilla, vanilla cupcake

Friday Question #145

Do you have any travel planned for 2011? Where/when and why?

We love to travel. So much that we have an entire bookshelf dedicated to travel literature* and a large travel map where we put pins on the places we’ve been.

We haven’t been able to travel much outside of our normal routes lately (Cedar Falls, IA, Guttenberg, IA and Kansas City, MO) because of our limited budget, but I got enough money in my bonus this year to buy tickets to New York City! Yay! We are going in February to spend time with our friends Gina and Steve. I cannot wait to explore NYC with them.

And I would really love to do a destination marathon this year, but yeah. We’ll see!

*We haven’t been to all of the places I have books on… I just like to read about places I haven’t been to.

Friday Question #144

If you could choose any one superpower to have, what would it be?

I would want to be able to read minds. Because I am nosy. And seriously, I often wonder “what the hell were you thinking?” (then I wouldn’t wonder that).

image from here

I am sure eventually I would get sick of it, because some people probably have some disturbing thoughts. So I guess I would have to be able to turn the super power on and off.

I realize that is a selfish power to pick, as in, it doesn’t do much to help the general population. I could have said, “the power to cure sickness” or something. Maybe you guys are less selfish than me?

Friday Question #143

What do you use for your alarm clock – an actual alarm clock or your phone (or maybe the sun, your kids, your pet, other)?

On the days I have to go to work or get up for a run, I use my phone. On other days, Data wakes me up.* Too early.

I have been using my cell phone as an alarm clock since college (2002). But I still kept my old alarm clock around:

The last time my sister, Christina, visited, she noticed that I was still using this alarm clock from middle school… and thought that was pretty sad. So she got me a schweet new alarm clock for the holiday!

(the red light is not always on)

Now, I think I WILL use an alarm clock!

Notice the other Star Wars stuff on my book stand?

We have Darth Tater (Spud Trooper is on the dresser), an R2D2 Pez**,

and even my memory board is Star Wars themed (Christina made it for me – I love it).

Yes, I am a big dork.

*Yesterday was a work at home day for me, and Data woke me up at 5:00 am. Thanks Data. The bonus of working at home is that I get to sleep in until 6:30!
**My Uncle Tom gave this to me the last Christmas I saw him, in 2005, before he unexpectedly passed away. I like to keep it where I can see it each day.

Friday Question #142

By , December 31, 2010 5:40 am

When you buy/receive new clothes, do you wash them before wearing them?

Weird question, right? Well, I don’t wash my new clothes. I just wear them. Steven washes his new clothes. I am in the minority on this one, right?

A few things I won’t be washing before wearing:

We returned that orange vest after everyone said it made me look puffy.

Did you get any new clothing items for the holidays?

Happy New Year everyone!!!

I don’t have New Year’s Eve plans, and I don’t make resolutions, but I would love to hear yours, if you have either!

Friday Question #141

By , December 24, 2010 5:42 am

Do you send out a holiday card? What kind of card do you send out?

We (being me and Steven) actually haven’t sent out a holiday card at all the three years we have been married. I would love to do one of those photo cards someday. We’ll see.

We still do a holiday card with my family though. We (my family) have been doing one every year, since I was born (and I am sure since before) and you can see almost all of them here. I love the one where we’re all in a tree and my dad is cutting the tree down with a chainsaw.

This year’s card went back to our photo style roots – something ridiculous involving a car (look at the link and you’ll understand what I mean).

A young kid driving a car, in fact.

The photo above is the scan I did of the card that arrived in the mail, but here is the clean version I sent my dad to use:

Obviously, there has been some photoshopping done to this card, and not just to make it look like it was moving.

We took the truck picture against a blank brick background:

Notice my sister and her boyfriend are missing, the kids are missing, and Courtney and Nick have different faces in the photo above than in the final photo. Yeah, I added all of those things in. Fun Times.

Friday Question #140

By , December 17, 2010 6:32 am

What’s on the top of your holiday wishlist?

Since I told you how much I love giving gifts, I can tell you what is on my wish list, right?

It’s the same thing every year (just sometimes a different model) – running shoes:

This year it’s the Gel Cumulus 12, size 12 (a pair, not just one as shown above).

I make a super long wishlist so people have lots of items to choose from*, but running shoes are always the first thing I list! Followed by other running and fitness items, DVDs, books, games, clothes, jewelry and A NEW PILLOW AND STOCKING HAT**.

I would really love to hear what you put at the top of your wishlist, as your #1 item! Especially from my family and other people who don’t normally comment…

*I know that sounds snotty and greedy, but people request a list from me, so I try to put a lot of different things on it, so they don’t feel like I am just saying “go buy me this one specific thing.” Then they can pick and choose or just get ideas from the list.
**Steven, I put that capitalized part in there for you. As a joke.
