Friday Question #226

By , February 8, 2013 6:50 am

Do you do the whole Valentine’s Day thing? Are you romantic?

I have never been big on it. But I do like to send cards,

eat my favorite (and stupidly hard to find) candy,

and secretly hope Steven makes me this (or a heart shaped pizza).

I do think it’s silly to have holidays (this one and the many others) that remind us to show love and affection – because I try to do that year round. But the truth is, I am not very romantic, so Valentine’s Day may be a good reminder for me to continue to try to be more so!

You’re not big on Valentine’s Day, but you send Valentine’s? That’s more than I do! ๐Ÿ™‚ My mom usually sends me one, and my dad used to send me flowers until Bob came along and ruined everything (kidding – until my pollen allergies got too bad, but it was about the same time).

We don’t celebrate, and I’m not romantic. I would, however, love a brownie batter heart-shaped donut. It’d go nicely with my Valentine’s Day sausage bouquet.

  2. Beth says:

I’m not really a fan of Valentine’s day either (I refuse to celebrate it or even acknowledge it with my fiance) but I do send valenties to my family and I’m a sucker for any sort of seasonal baked good.

I’m not and never have been, but P is a lot more romantic than I am so I’ve softened a little. We usually find a mutual happy ground where we are celebrating but in a way that makes me comfortable. Because of the timing this year (right before President’s Day, which I have off), I’m taking Thursday and Friday off work and we’re going to spend V-Day baking together. But really, it’s more because I planned to take a few days off around that time and we were overdue for a long stretch of time to relax together. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m on board with any excuse to show love and affection ๐Ÿ™‚

HOly smokes- that donut looks amazing! I don’t do all that much for Vday (although maybe I should?) It’s just a good excuse for my husband and I to go out to eat and indulge in some sort of sweet treat!

  6. Kristina says:

I definitely feel that we’ve become a bit of an “old married couple” – we don’t do much for Valentine’s Day, but we’re both okay with that! I think it’s pretty great that you send out cards to other people.

  7. Kandi says:

I’ve never really bought into the hype of gifts and dinners out and whatnot for Valentine’s day. Joey and I have always just cooked together for Valentine’s day. We cook together so often these days that it isn’t really much different than other days though. We do usually choose something a bit different or elaborate but not always. This year will be different because we’ll be going to a wedding and eating whatever they serve us afterward. Our anniversary is coming up so we’ll probably just wait until then. (can you believe it’s been nearly a year?!)

  8. J says:

We usually keep Valentine’s day small – for the past three years we have gone to the same restaurant – its an Italian place on the other side of town. We never go there any other time except V-day. Its a nice little night out during the week! I usually get Brian a card and the reese’s hearts since they are his fav!

  9. The picture of that donut haunts me every time I walk past a Dunkin Donuts!

  10. Erin says:

Part of me wishes Jason and I were romantic but we’re just not. So we probably won’t do anything special for Valentine’s Day. My mom sometimes sends me a card or a small gift but that’s about as fun as it gets around here.

  11. Xaarlin says:

I hate these fake holidays- valentines, cinco de mayo, st Patrick’s day ugh! ๐Ÿ™‚

L and I are always cute and romantic in our own way everyday because that’s the way a relationship should be like right? Not just reserved for one day of forced kitschy affection and stuffed animals. In fact, I’m glad he will be out of town next week so were not tempted to go out and experience what happened last year… All of our favorite places near our apt were packed and we had to go to the Thai place because it was empty.,. (And because we had no food at home because we like to eat out too much) anyways. Happy Valentines day- AKA Single Awarness Day. Ha!

Me and my friends always watch zombie movies on valentines day. It makes just as much sense as roses and candy to me!

    • kilax says:

That sounds AWESOME! I love zombie movies. Are you going to see that new one about zombies who fall in love? Did it just come out?

  13. Kayla says:

Not much of a valentines persons. I think its ridiculous that they make such a big deal out of it, but that could be due to the fact I’ve never had a boyfriend on valentines day lol

  14. Sizzle says:

We don’t do much, maybe give each other a card and be sure to have dinner together (nothing fancy, home cooking). I like sending v-day cards to friends too.

  15. ehh not really big of V-Day ever. It’s an eat chocolate type of day for me. haha! The whole idea of it is sweet and nice obviously, but I just personally don’t get toooo into it!

  16. Emily says:

I was single for the majority of my adult life so up until fairly recently I always hated Valentine’s Day. But even now, it’s not a big deal for Adam and me. We just try to have a nice dinner together – usually something at home since the restaurants are always mobbed.

  17. Mica says:

I’ve never seen those candy hearts. I thought they were cinnamon, which always grosses me out (WHY SO SPICY??), but the name sounds good. I don’t think we have any plans for V-day yet, so maybe I’ll ask to go get some ice cream.

  18. martymankins says:

I cooked dinner for my wife this year. I try not to set patterns or trends so that there’s still an element of surprise, although she did say that she likes it when I cook… so I might have got myself into a gig here. LOL
