Who’s up for anything?

There are a few people I describe to Steven as being “up for anything.” Not that we are going to rush out and get tattoos while skydiving in a foreign country together, but they are very go with the flow, easy to hang out with. You don’t have to have plans with them to have a good time. You get together and have fun just being together… no matter what you are doing. You say to them, “want to do xyz?” and they are up for trying anything out. And if you aren’t doing something, just hanging out together is enough – it’s not boring. Planning things with them is easy. You enjoy your time together…

Conversations with a few bloggers yesterday made me think of this type of person. It seems there are particular instances where you want to be with someone who is up for anything:

  1. When you are exploring something new
  2. When you have plans and they don’t turn out to be what you expect
  3. When you are deciding on dinner
  4. When you are lost
  5. When you are in a big group of people
  6. When you are doing anything with another person…

I am not saying this person is a pushover or that they cannot make decisions. I think what I am really saying is that they are not crabby and are fun to be around. They’re not so set in what they think they like that they are adverse to new things. They don’t get upset when something doesn’t go according to plan. They go with the flow.

You know, I can visualise this person in my head, but describing them sure is hard. Maybe you know what I mean? Maybe I am cray cray?

The point of all this is (was there a point?) that I feel lucky to have people like this in my life. I won’t list out everyone like that, because I am bound to forget someone… and not list certain people on purpose. The first person I always think of when I think of this type of person is my mom.

My mom is up for anything. And will do anything for anyone. Total mom trait. That is my excuse for why I don’t have it.

Yeah, I love these people but I am not always one. There are certain restaurants I do not like going to and will make a stink about going there. There are certain activities I whine about doing. But… usually just to my husband! So my friends don’t see it as much. Ha ha ha. Or do they? Uh oh…

Who are your “up for anything” people? Are you up for anything?

I like to think that I’m (usually) up for anything. For awhile now my general motto has been “I’ll try anything once.” The problem is finding someone else with that same attitude to do crazy stuff with me … and also the money to afford it (like skydiving or getting tattoos).

I’m usually up for anything. My mom is too, though she might be a little reluctant on trying some different foods. She is much more adventurous in that department than my dad (he’s super picky and won’t eat a lot of things) but I’m a surprisingly more adventurous eater than she is.
I am struck by your “Or do they?” comment. I always wonder if my friends can pick up on my attitude about certain things. Probably not, but I always wonder. I am usually positive but not always.

I really need to be better about this. I like to plan, and if things don’t go according to plan, I stress about it. P is exactly the opposite–very go with the flow, but sometimes it is problematic if it’s something we need to get tickets for or something like that.
Last night his sister invited us over after work and I was all grumpy because I had planned to clean the house up and I am not good with last-minute things. But we went out for dinner with her and her husband and had a really nice time. So I am trying to remind myself of nice spontaneous moments like that when I feel stressed about not having a “plan.”

Thank you for being honest! I am like that too – I have an idea of my evening (basically, when I get to FINALLY chill) and I get antsy if it’s changed.

I am happy you had a good time with P’s sis and husband!

I hope that I am a perceived as an up for anything, have a good time, laid back person. I try to be anyways because you open yourself to so much when you are. Laid back and up for anything people usually make fun travel companions.

Oh gosh. You totally went with the flow during your last crazy visit. Obvs I was referring to you with the entire first paragraph.

  5. As I’ve been going through the wedding festivities for my cousin, it is very frustrating to be in a large group with strong opinionated people. I mean, there were 11 of us girls on this bachelorette trip. It shouldn’t be shocking that somoeone can’t get their own way. GO WITH THE FLOW people!! I think I am one of those “go with the flow” types that is up for anything most of the time (unless it requires me to be up very late past my bed time–then I just get cranky).

Haha, I’m with you on the being up late thing. If I know in advance it’s going to be a late night, I’ll plan accordingly (sleep in the morning before, or get a nap, drink coffee, clear my morning the following day, etc). But lately my friends haven’t been interested in staying up super late anymore … guess we’re all getting old.

Ugh. Large groups of women are a BAD idea. Unless they are runners? Maybe?

I like to think I am but having kids kinda of puts a crimp in my anything goes style for now.

I love people who can be like this. Unfortunately, I sometimes am very bad at it! Routines, plans and schedules tend to rule my life and it’s sometimes hard for me to break out of that but I really need to learn to bend a little more!

I think I’ve gotten a lot better about this in the past few years. I’m still not one to recommend random things but if someone else invites me I’ll usually say sure, why not.

Although, getting lost still freaks me out. Not sure why.

  9. I like to think that I’m up for anything. I wasn’t for a few years, I got all uptight about everything, but I think I’ve loosened back up an awful lot. As long as I’m having fun, I’ll do pretty much anything

I like people who are up for anything. It makes my life a little bit easier. Because I am the complete opposite of it. I am slightly obsessive and controlling and very particular about what I don’t like. About what I like I am a little bit more lenient. And I get so frustrated when things don’t go as planned or expected that I have ruined my night more than once. Thinking about it, I don’t know how people still want to hang out with me. Must be because I am ridiculously smart and cute ๐Ÿ˜›

  11. kelsey says:

I like to think I’m always up for anything!

    You are def cray.

  12. I’m pretty easy to please. ๐Ÿ™‚ And love doing new stuff. Any new stuff, really. So I guess you can say I’m usually up for anything. Isn’t that what life is all about? After all, fun is what you bring with you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Losing Lindy says:

Darn, I would have gone and got tattoos with you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am very much the planner, as a Mom that has really taken a back seat, because there is so much unknown with kids. Now I have more of an “idea” of what to do. We are currently thinking we “might” go to the movies tomorrow night, because it will be so hot. Or maybe froyo..or?

  14. Tori says:

You are crazy for thinking you don’t have that do anything for anyone trait because you have always been there for me when I needed it AND you totally are cool with things. I remember feeling awful for slowing you down on the races we planned to do together and I wasn’t able to run. I remember apologizing like crazy when you walked with me and you told me not to worry about it. I mean you might have been annoyed with me, I probably would have been, but you never acted like you were and were such a good friend to me. My kids were talking about how nice my friends are and when they listed people you were at the top of their list. I always think you are the kind of person who would be up for anything and I love it!

    • kilax says:

You are so so nice to me. You made my day! Thank you for thinking I am like this. I just can’t help but be nice to you because I like you so much ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Kayla says:

I am very much a go with the flow and up for anything person. Almost too much so and I have a lot of friends who are also that way which makes it interesting when we are trying to decide what to do or where to eat. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Emily says:

I love people that are up for anything and that go with the flow!!! They make life so much more interesting! I’d like to think that I am one of those people. =D

What I do get frustrated with are the people who SAY that they are up for anything. But then when you start making suggestions they say, “Anything but that… or that… or that…that, too… also that…” Sigh.
