This may turn in to a running blog

At the end of the work day today I thought I needed one of two things – a glass of wine or a relaxing/distracting run. I spent the entire workday checking AutoCAD drawings, and staring at the black screen was starting to make me a bit batty.

The decision was easy – I am not a drinker and don’t have wine in my house (maybe Erin can help me with this problem?), so a run it was.

The run started out a bit ho hum. It was in the mid 80s and really sunny. But right after the second mile, when I was about to cross a street, Steven drove by on his way to the post office! What a funny coincidence! That made me smile.

Then in my seventh mile, when I was running along one of the major roads, an SUV honked at me from behind, then when they drove by a woman was hanging out the passenger window waving at me. It was one of my running club peeps cheering me on! That really made my day and that mile ended up being my fastest.

I wasn’t going to write about this run, but it was really exciting for me to see people I knew on the road. It gave me a boost and lifted my spirits.

Then I made it home right before a short downpour. Talk about good luck (running in the rain would have felt nice though, I am sure).

Because every post needs a picture, here’s one of the trail by my house from today

Lately I don’t have much to talk about except running. It’s kind of the steadiest, surest thing in my life right now (of my interests I mean, not relationships). I don’t think of this as a running blog. I think of it as more of a life blog. But maybe May will be the month of running talk. It’s either that, or me bitching about a lot of stupid insignificant crap. Take your pick!

I needed today’s run too. And I was nervous, since it was way hotter than I like, but it ended up being so perfect.

I LOVE when I see someone I know on the run – it always gives me a lift!

I’m having a hard time blogging about life lately. Which is probably why I talk your ear off whenever we run together, haha. I guess it needs an outlet? But the blog seems like the wrong place for it. So I struggle with writing…and get boring 🙂

  2. I think that’s what I like about running. It’s my clutch. It’s always there when I need it. Sometimes that assurance is nice. 🙂

  3. I used to dread running in the rain. Until I trained for my first marathon and there was 100% change of rain on the day I had to run 18 miles. I realized running in the rain really isn’t that bad. In fact. I find it kind of peaceful.

One of the last times I went running some random college kid who I didn’t know shouted “Run b!tch run” I was kind of offended and wasn’t really sure what do to.

I really like running in the rain too. Sometimes I go out in the rain. I would take that over the wind!

Ha. I would have just flipped them off, but that is not even a satisying enough response!

I feel like all I blog about is fitness/running/health stuff too, but it’s your blog, so if that’s what’s on your mind, share!

Seeing people you know definitely helps. I always include a trip by my gym while I run (since it’s only a block away) just so I can see a friendly face or two, and every now and then I bump into a neighbor while I’m out too. I think people seeing me run makes it feel more real to me or something.

It’s always fun to randomly run into people when you’re out and about! I love how it makes it feel all “small town”, you know?

A run is probably a way healthier way to decompress. Stick with that 🙂

Sometimes a run is exactly what you need to de-stress from the day! I’ve certainly been there!

I LOVE seeing people while running. I also love when I see brian while running cuase its never set up and then if we see each other it makes me happy. Like if I go out for a run and I am on my way back to the house and he passes me in the car! Sometimes at running club we get honked at while we run – usually its people we know so that always makes me smile.

Oh and today (Wednesday) is going slightly better than yesterday. Its still even but I may have a leg up on it soon! lol

I think that running can be a great metaphor for life, so I’d say go for it!

This reminds me of my recent experiences with the Runmeter app reading Facebook and Twitter replies to my “Started a run” post. It’s amazingly encouraging when I spontaneously get an alert followed by hearing “Have a good run, Ren!”.

I love when I see someone I know when I am out running! I regularly run by the french fry stand in our neighborhood and the lady who runs it, Katrien, always waves at me if she is there and that always gives me such a boost.
