- If things go as planned, we’re busy every weekend until the end of June. Which has me kind of panicked, but also excited about all the fun things we have coming up (birthday celebrations, races, baseball, a wedding, my parents visiting, going to a cottage)! I want to keep my running mileage up during this time, which means longer week day runs and more of this sight on my runs (in theory, ha):
- As much as I complain about a certain piece of advice Runner’s World keeps posting, I still look forward to getting it in the mail because I love print media. But I can tell (for well over a year) the magazine is going down hill. It’s getting smaller, there’s no letter from the editor, every issue seems to be a re-brand attempt, etc. I don’t say these things to be mean. I can see they are struggling and trying to stay relevant! It just makes me sad and I hope the print edition doesn’t go away, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
- Now that I’ve finished A Wrinkle in Time, I’m curious about seeing the movie (I’ll wait for DVD), which received poor reviews. One reviewer’s theory was that Disney strayed too far away from the religious tones of the book, which was interesting to me, because I didn’t pick up on them until the end (a few mentions of God, a lot of light vs dark talk, and a lot of focus on believing in things you can’t see). Eh. Disney can’t have 100% winners in the box office.
- After I finished A Wrinkle in Time, I started The Last Town… then realized that it was the third book in a trilogy! Oops! I requested the first two books from the library so I can read those first. I also picked up North (and two other books that came in from my hold request, eek, I have a lot of reading to do) from the library, and am reading Artemis digitally (couldn’t get the hard copy), and have the audio version for Steven to listen to. Yay, Book Club for Two!

Hmm I need some books to read next week. Maybe you should keep a running tab of your favorites…take any hard work out of it for me ha ha!
Ha, I will! The bottom two in the photo were recommendations on Good Reads that if you liked The Salt Line, you would like those two 😉
And Artemis (by Andy Weir) is entertaining so far! And I am sure I will like North. You should read that and Jurek’s first book to get more in to ultra mode! 😉
I didn’t realize RW wasn’t doing a letter from the editor anymore. I don’t subscribe, but I find that a little disheartening. It was such a good read for several years, and from what you’ve described, it really does seem to be going downhill. I guess people are mostly getting the articles online?
I definitely did not pick up on the religious themes in “A Wrinkle in Time” as a kid. Then again, I also missed all the religion in “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” I’m interested to hear what you think of the movie!
It is disheartening! I think people are getting the articles online. Lots of magazines seem to be doing that. Like, you can read most cover stories online before they hit the newstands! (Which is nice cause it’s free but I like reading things in print)
I would probably miss it there too!
I haven’t subscribed to RW for a couple years now and it sounds like I’m not missing anything, which is too bad…even with their silly swirl and spit advice. Wonder why they got rid of all the fun parts of the magazine?
You aren’t! If I ever see a good article you’d like, I’ll send you the FB link 😉
I wonder too. Must be some new direction!
