I wasn’t ignoring you!
I got this email from Auntie Anne’s on Wednesday and thought “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE NEW EMOJIS ARE OUT?! I NEED THAT PRETZEL.”
I did not pass go. I did not collect $200. I went straight to my settings and downloaded the new iOS.
And then I began happily using my new emojis, although, no one could see them, because no one else rushed to update and several friends don’t use an Apple phone anyway. That pretzel tho. So worth it.
While I was not passing go and not collecting $200, I was also not reading about how the new iOS would affect my phone (eh). There were quite a few changes I will get used to, and also, the phone seems a bit slow when I type. Sigh. That pretzel tho.
I also noticed I was getting less texts. Odd, right? I don’t use sound or vibrate on my phone (ever). To get text notifications, I have them pop up on my lock screen, and stay up. I see them whenever I look at my phone. My phone wasn’t doing that anymore. Huh.
So after two days, I looked at the settings, and realized when I upgraded it added new options for pop ups on the lock screen – temporary (they flash then go away) and persistent (they stay up). The phone automatically made them temporary, so I wasn’t seeing them, and wouldn’t notice I had texts until I opened my phone and saw the notification on the app. Oops.
I wasn’t ignoring you on purpose, I swear! That’s not my style. I respond to texts as quickly as I can!
I wonder what else it changed. Totally worth it for that pretzel tho.
My sister and I were texting on Wednesday and I had to upgrade to 11.1 to get all the emojis she was trying to send. I didn’t realize there was a pretzel in the new bunch! I wish they would indicate which ones are new so I’d know. I do like a lot of the new smilies, though, especially the “shh!” one, with a finger over its mouth. I think it’s adorable. I also thought it was super ironic that they added the flag of Scotland to the update on Wednesday, because on Monday I had been texting my sister about other things, including the fact that she’s hoping to go to Scotland next year, and I very much wanted to send her a Scotland flag emoji but couldn’t because it didn’t exist! But now it does 🙂 Also, I had NO IDEA that you could have texts stay up on your phone like that! I have mine set up with the temporary display, but it notifies me (screen lights up, phone vibrates, text tone goes off if I have the sound turned on…which is like never. I don’t even know what my text tone sounds like haha) once every two minutes for 10 minutes, which is usually enough for me to catch it as long as I’m not away from my phone for something (in a meeting or something like that). But I had no idea persistent was an option!
I saw a few articles about the new emojis coming, so I kind of had an idea, but it would be nice if they highlighted them for a week or something because they’re easy to overlook! I like the new faces too – especially the cursing one. Ha ha ha.
So did you send her a zillion Scotland flags?! How funny it came out after your discussion!!!
Do you think you will stick with the double notification and vibration? I tried vibration for awhile, but found it bothersome.
Oh man, send me a pretzel emoji tomorrow! Or maybe I’ll text you a pretzel first, and then see if you’ve been IGNORING me.
Ha! I will send it to you once it’s appropriate to text someone in your time zone (only I will be in meetings from 9-1… so it will be a late text!).
