Notes:

  • I think Monday night was the first time in months that all of my students have been able to make it to class! Woo hoo! With summer just around the corner, that will happen less and less. Ha.
  • I took an unplanned rest day on Thursday because of a sore throat. Then I did my speedwork the next day. I had planned 6×400 with some hill repeats on tired legs but my legs and lungs said “NOPE! We need more rest!” so I called it short. On Saturday and Sunday the cold went to my head and chest, so I mostly rested over the weekend.
  • I am happy the cold hit this weekend and not next weekend – I am running a half marathon on Saturday! I’d like to run in under 2:10.
  • Monthly recap time! In April I ran 130.5 miles (25 runs), cycled 45 miles (4 indoor rides) and swam 4,263 yards (4 swims). My coldest run was 34°F and my warmest was 76°F. I taught 9 strength classes, and 3 fitness boxing classes.

Luca’s 6th Birthday!

By , April 28, 2017 6:44 pm

I was in Dallas last weekend for Luca’s 6th birthday!

Steven and I have celebrated Luca’s 2nd, 3rd, and 5th birthdays in person with him! Steven wasn’t able to make this trip because of work though. Sad face. Luckily, I found affordable tickets for both of us to go for a weekend trip in May that won’t interfere with work. Yay! Better late than never!

Family pic minus Steven

We had a chill weekend <— my favorite kind! On Saturday am, Steve and I ran, then we volunteered at a 5K put on by the PTA at Luca’s school. Then we got lunch, did some shopping downtown, TOOK NAPS!, watched Luca open his presents (while we Facetimed Steven), and went out for dinner.

I found a cute Iowa decoration while we were out shopping!

On Sunday Gina and I ran, then we all chilled before going to Luca’s birthday party. He had a bowling, pizza, and arcade games party, and the kids were so well behaved! We went home for a bit after, then went out to dinner. On Monday Gina and I ran then I had to head home. Short but great trip!

The title of this picture is “Tan=delicious.” Clockwise from top left: custom vegan pizza at Mellow Mushroom, nachos from Frankies, Pad See-ew from Silk Road Thai (not pictured: super strong Mai Thai), and our traditional homemade pancakes (we try to make them each time we’re together!)

Even though we see our otra familia several times a year, I’ll always wish we had MORE time together, so I am happy for the chill times when we can hang out, catch up, and be ridiculous together. And I am happy Steven will get to be a part of that in May!

Notes:

  • I heard through the grapevine that the Frosty Footrace will be going back to its original (5K) format next year, and a shorter race will be added at a different time of year. Hopefully it’s back at the same location and I can go for another course PR?!?!
  • Gosh, usually it’s my lungs that struggle with my speedwork, but this week it was my legs. They felt so tired during my 800s! It’s probably because I did the run first thing in the morning, and not after work, like I typically do.
  • I continued to destroy my legs Thursday night, when I taught back to back strength classes. They bugged me until I woke up Sunday. Blah!
  • I am in Texas this weekend for Luca’s birthday and cool weather followed me here! I had great, “barely breaking a sweat,” runs with Steve and Gina!

Good Samaritan

By , April 21, 2017 3:20 pm

On my train ride home this week, I was surprised to see my ticket wasn’t out when the conductor came around calling for them. I always put my ticket out after I sit down! Where did it go?

I checked in my purse and I had a brand new ticket. The ticket I used that morning had punches on it. So I must have put it out. Did someone take it? Did it fall?

I tried not to get worked up about it and just used my other ticket. And made a note to myself to keep track of my ticket in the future!

Fast forward to today when I get a random call from a local number. Of course I didn’t answer (does anyone?) and they left a message – they found my ticket on their seat and wanted to mail it to me! How kind! I will definitely have to send her a thank you note.

And remember to write my name and number on all future tickets – I am happy I had on this one!

(A picture of my ticket would be boring, so enjoy this picture of the children playing. Any guesses as to who started the fight?)

Random Thoughts Thursday 132

By , April 20, 2017 7:23 am
  • Ha, my snister is so much smarter than me. She pointed out that the title Fate of the Furious, sounds like “eight,” and it’s the eighth movie in the The Fast & the Furious series. They so clever. Also, duh-town, Kim.

  • I LOVED the movie! I was entertained the whole time and sad when it was over! I might go see it again in the theater.
  • It’s been almost ten years since I graduated from college (in May 2007). My classmates are having a ten-year reunion in October. I may actually try to go!
  • I am itching to write a post about all the work Steven put in to the outdoor cat house. We just need to get a few more photos of it (which involves moving it a bit on a day when the sun is right for taking photos).

  • Ugh. Someone rear-ended me when I was sitting in traffic on Saturday (I’m fine, they just bumped me) and I have to take the car to get a quote on the bumper repairs today. Totally not in the mood to adult this week! At. All.
  • When I went outside on Tuesday, I noticed our log pile looked a little different. Last time we saw that tree in the middle, it was standing up! It just fell over, luckily, in to the woods (it was dead and we already had it marked to cut down). I am surprised we didn’t hear it!

Bad cat mom ii

By , April 19, 2017 7:46 am

Another bad cat mom moment!

I was excited when I saw tulips at Aldi* for a reasonable price this weekend.

And I was super impressed with myself for tying a bow on the vase and making it look festive.

A few days later I was thinking “Wow, the cats haven’t even destroyed them yet!” (As you know, Data likes to rearrange flowers.)

Then I googled “tulips and cats” and realized they were poisonous for cats. Oops.

Now the tulips are making the cat-free garage festive! Ha.

(What are they sitting on in garage? Steven built a storage unit to hold all of our building supplies on! Now I can park my car in the garage! Yay! Love my handy husband!)

*OMG though this tag. IT IS NOT “ALDI’S”!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhh.

Another reminder!

By , April 17, 2017 12:19 pm

So soon? Crazy!

I was scrolling through my Instagram recommended feed this weekend and clicked on a picture and was really disappointed by the text, which was that person making fun of another person they saw working out during their workout.

Sigh.

It really bugs me when people on social media* make fun of other people (strangers) they see working out (or doing anything!), and ESPECIALLY if they’ve included a picture of them. I know annoying things happen and it feels good to vent about it and have other people agree, but it’s just NOT COOL.

If what’s happening is a real issue of safety, or someone is heavily violating gym etiquette, get an authoritative figure involved.

Otherwise, I don’t want to read** about someone who does xyz too slow, has bad form, sweats too much, looks stupid in their gym clothes, and so on and so on. Unless it’s about how you’re helping them, focus on you! And support the other people who are out there trying to get healthy, even if they are annoying AF!

*Just do it offline! Vent to a friend!
**Ha ha, so don’t read it, right? I don’t – when I see stuff like this, I usually skip it. I just happened to see this on Instagram!

Notes:

  • For the past few weeks I’ve had at least one run where it rained hard the entire time! I don’t mind running in the rain, but I hope I am not ruining my shoes!
  • On my Wednesday run, a safety pin (that I was using to hold my running belt in place) popped out, and when it did, it felt like someone tapped my hip with their hand. I stopped and chopped my arm back in defense. Then realized it was a safety pin. Ha.
  • I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I typically swim on Fridays right after I teach strength class and my arms are sometimes already sore from class! Swimming probably helps a bit with recovery!
  • It was so nice to run with Bobbi on Friday! She was asking me for recommendations for local hills for repeats and I happen to live very close to a five minute hill!
  • I got a sun burn on Friday though (and actually again on Saturday). Eek. I put all my sunscreen out on the counter so I will remember to use it (I did on Sunday!).
  • I brought treats to my fitness boxing class for Easter. My mom helped me put them together when I was visiting my home town earlier this month.
  • After fitness boxing I had plans to run with Anne, and two more people from class joined us. Yay! We had fun, and that was my first double (run) of the year! And this is the first week this year I’ve run 40 miles! That was my go to weekly mileage for the last two years, but I cut back to 30 per week this year.

Bad cat mom

By , April 15, 2017 7:22 am

I always thought those black markings around Khali’s nose were odd.

But figured they were just, well, some odd marking.

Um, nope.

The other day, one of them was loose.

Those black markings? Were actually dried blood around her nose from her street fighting days! Poor thing!

I went in full cat mom mode and used my finger nail to pick them off.

Almost all better:

Oops, sorry Khali.

Just a reminder

By , April 14, 2017 7:26 am

I have totally written about this before, so if it seems repetitive, it’s because it is!

This is just a reminder, that if someone is talking to you about something that you have no interest in or dislike, that that is NOT the first thing you have to say to them. IF you say it at all. It’s okay to listen, or ask questions! Even about something that you are not interested in! I know! Shocking!

Ha ha.

It astounds me on social media (and in person) when people mention things they are interested in, and people are so negative with their responses. Blah. Why do they even need to say that? Say it to someone else, duh. Don’t display your crappy side all over the internets. Keep that on the DL.*

All that being said, I am SUPER STOKED to see Fate of the Furious on Sunday! I “celebrated” the release day in my class this morning by having a Fast & Furious themed playlist and having some of the characters join us for our workout. Ha ha ha.

We’ve also been rewatching the movies this week (starting with #3, Fast & Furious) to get ready! If you like the series, check out this awesome infographic about them Rachel shared with me!

*I know, I know, “everything online is so fake and rosy, I want to see some real sh*t!” Well, I don’t want to see people being dicks to each other about their interests. Like who gives a flying fart. If you don’t like it, don’t comment and move along. Save the arguments for real topics.
