I’m sorry Data. I don’t even know where that “shirt” came from. I found it when I was looking through our Halloween costumes.

Steven and I didn’t dress up and go out in costume this year, but I was looking through our costumes so Steven could wear something to the warehouse today. And of course, so I could wear something to teach class tonight! I hope some of my students dress up too!

Notes:

  • I’ve been so angry about work lately that even my runs aren’t helping. I ran after work on Monday and just felt mad the whole time – mad about running in the shoulder and all the cars. Chill out, Kim.
  • I’m not riding my bike as much as I used to (I am swimming more) and my butt can feel it – ouch! The good thing about my ride this week though, was that we put the TV back up in the basement! Woo hoo! We took in down in August to do ceiling work and couldn’t put it back up until we patched a hole, which Steven did last weekend. Yay for bigger screen entertainment!
  • Merry (early) Christmas to me! I decided to buy a yearly pool pass for the gym I’ve been going to. Now I just need to 37 more times by October 28 next year to make it worth it.
  • Ha, my speedwork was pretty goofy on Friday. Trails, running in to the wind, and up hills made it a bit sucky. I’ll remember not to do that again.
  • The bugs came back with the warmer temps on Friday and Saturday. Blah!
  • I got a massage on Friday. I thought my legs would be really tight, but my back and shoulders were the worst! Hopefully I am not messing it up more with swimming!

Random Thoughts Thursday 114

  • My snis is such a sweetie. She knows I’m having a sh*t week (hence not posting here – I’ve been busy, exhausted, and angry about work) so she sent me these flowers yesterday to cheer me up and they totally did! Thanks, snis!

  • Vote for Data! He’s in a Halloween costume contest on our vet’s Facebook page and he could win a giftcard to PetSmart, which would help me feed him AND the outdoor cats! VOTE HERE by clicking “like”!

  • We’re still working on the outdoor cat names. Callie may change in to “Khali” to be short for Khaleesi, and the black cat may become “Snow,” for Jon Snow (both names are from Game of Thrones). The cats are both extremely friendly around us now, let me pick them up, and basically live on our patio. Callie/Khali even ran in to the house on Saturday!!!

  • My older brother shared this memory on Facebook yesterday from three years ago – when he, my dad and I all ran a 5K. We all placed and I was first woman overall. I was curious what my time was when I won that race so I looked it up – 23:53, the EXACT same time as the race I won a couple of weeks ago. Weird!

  • This is NOT sponsored, and I bought these with my own money. I just had to share how excited I am that these wipes ACTUALLY work on getting smudges off of stainless steel!!! And they’re so easy to use! I was very, very excited about this on Sunday. Finger print-free appliances makes me happy.

Notes:

  • Ugh, Monday’s double was meant to be more substantial, but my day was a bit of a sh*t show. Blah. At least I got to run at all!!!
  • I took my rest day early, on Tuesday, because my legs were still beat up from that 5K, and Monday’s strength class only made them worse. They felt awesome for my Wednesday am run. Although, that could have been the cool weather and dew point.
  • I rarely woke up early to run this summer. I got out of the early morning running habit after my training partner moved, and I discovered the higher temps later in the day made me less miserable that the early morning humidity (sometimes). However, I’m finding in the fall it’s totally worth it to wake up earlier, and enjoy that low dew point and temperature before it gets hot midday/in the afternoon!
  • I got to do a very short run while on travel for work in Indianapolis this week! It was raining and quite a bit of the trail was flooded, but I still enjoyed it (had to move my legs before the four hour car drive back home!).
  • Oh man, my arms were already sore from the class I had just taught when I went swimming on Friday. Must have been an effective workout! I had been working on endurance during my recent swims, but decided to switch it up and do some intervals – those got my heart racing!
  • I finally almost regretted wearing a tank for a run this week. Yay! Is cooler weather really on its way?!
  • Has anyone noticed an issue with elapsed vs moving time on Garmin Connect? I try to keep my elapsed time from getting too high during my runs. After my run Sunday, my watch showed an elapsed time of four minutes longer (which is good, since it included two stops to fill up water and three road crossing stops), but later in the day, on Garmin Connect, it had the two times as being the same! It’s been doing that on my swims, too! I want to see the difference!

All done Christmas shopping!*

*For one person

It’s a start!

I’m not sure the belt would have helped

By , October 21, 2016 4:46 am

I usually wear a waist belt with this shirt. Yesterday I was feeling lazy and didn’t.

Someone asked me if I was pregnant.

“No? Oh, your shirt is just billowy.”

“You don’t want kids? That’s okay.”

Sigh.

The conversation didn’t make me mad, as this person has no filter. It didn’t make me feel bad about how I look. And it didn’t make me regret my clothing choices.

It just made me roll my eyes. You don’t ask people that.

Random Thoughts Thursday 113

By , October 20, 2016 7:05 am
  • I banged my elbow so hard on a towel rack Saturday that my arm became tingly and I lost feeling in my fingers for a few minutes. Ouch. That is one tender bruise. Steven asked me what I was doing (dancing? karate chopping?) that I hit it so hard – you know, just putting my towel back on the rack. Such a klutz.
  • This opinion article from The New York Times, “The Art of Making (and Not Making) Plans” (pdf here), exactly mirrors my approach to making social plans – mindfully, and not too many. I know my limits and I do NOT function well being busy every. single. night/day (applause to you who thrive on that kind of schedule!). Since I know my limits, I only have to cancel if it’s an emergency or I am sick, which is what the article is bringing up – maybe people would cancel less if they didn’t over commit and actually thought about whether the thing was something they actually wanted to do in the first place (don’t just go because FOMO!).
  • I’m digging that new song “Starboy” by The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (love me some Daft Punk!). When Steven and I first heard it, we thought he was saying “I’m in love with a cyborg” instead of “I’m a motherf*ckin’ starboy.” Ha. So when Luca was here, we taught him that those were the lyrics (the cyborg ones!!!), and I hope he’s still singing it that way when he hears it, ha! Anyway, Steven and I do NOT love that during the lyric “Star Trek groove in that Wrath of Khan,” The Weeknd pronounces “wrath” wrong (like it’s spelled “rayth”). Grating.
  • Our pond is back, so these guys are back! I’ve lost a bit of interest, since we have cats hanging out now (now we’re trying out the name Geordi for the black cat). Sorry, guys (I still feed them, ha).

  • Our pumpkin collection has GROWN!

  • I am getting closer and closer with the baby blanket. Maybe I will finish it this weekend? Ha (I don’t really sit around and knit on the weekends so I am not sure why I think that).

Some will chase

By , October 19, 2016 7:19 am

I got to run in a neighborhood this morning, which is a treat for me because:

  • Halloween decorations!!!
  • Sidewalks!
  • A park with a clean bathroom!
  • It’s close to Starbucks and I can go there after my run

161019sidewalkrunning

I forgot how early kids get on the bus. Our old townhome had a school route bus stop right in front of it, and I was surprised how early the kids were out, especially when it was so dark in the mornings. Ah, such is life. Get em used to it now, ha.

Today when I was running I could see a man waiting with his son for the bus on the sidewalk ahead of me. I could also see they had a small dog with them. I had a feeling the man didn’t have very good control over his dog, so I ran into the street to go around them. The dog barked and jumped when I ran by so I was happy I gave him some space.

Then I quickly forgot about it as I kept running down the sidewalk. Except, I could still hear the dog barking. “Geesh!” I thought, “that small dog has a loud bark!”

No, he’s not that loud. He’s chasing me down the sidewalk, with his owner chasing him. Gah! I am happy the dog was loud enough I could hear him, so he didn’t jump on me from behind, or trip me!

I stopped, the dog ran up to me, then slowed down to sniff me. He was harmless. I grabbed his leash and handed it back to his owner, when he caught up. The owner thanked me, I told him “you’re welcome,” and was on my way again.

I’m grateful the dog just wanted to sniff me. And I hope that the owner has a better grip the next time he takes him out – the dog wasn’t even that big!!!

On second thought…

By , October 18, 2016 6:14 pm

Maybe I should answer that random number that shows up on my phone. I just sent Christina’s baby shower invites, and put my phone and email address for people to RSVP. I forgot that some people still like to call!

So we shall find out… is this a political call? A call resulting from my mortgage company selling my phone number to everyone? Or some pleasant person trying to RSVP?! Ha!

No photo to go with that (you’ve already seen the invite!) so here’s a picture of Callie photobombing a selfie in a very ladylike way. Oh, Callie.

Work has been kicking my arse for about a week, and I’m exhausted. So late-day, mindless fluff posts it is!

No scheming this year

By , October 17, 2016 8:51 pm

Today is my dad’s 60th birthday! Happy Birthday Daddio!

160904meandad

That pic is from the last time I saw him – the bike jersey was a “thank you for helping us with house work” present, and after opening it, he said I better not get him a birthday gift. I listened! He just got a card.

I did NOT listen for his 50th birthday. He specifically said he did NOT want a surprise party, and my siblings and I schemed to plan him one (see 10/7 post here). We held it early, on his grandson’s birthday, and pretended it was for him, not my dad. Ha! My dad figured it out when he got to the parking lot because one of his friends with a very unique car had parked out front.

Now, ten years later, I totally get why he didn’t want a surprise party. But I don’t regret throwing him one! Party or not, I wish I could have seen him today!
