You know who is really courteous to runners (at least where I live)?
FedEx Freight drivers.
My safest (traffic-wise) route takes me on a country road back to a one+ mile sidewalk next to FedEx Freight. I worried at first they’d be annoyed I was running near (not on) their facility, but they’re always so nice to me! Ha, maybe they are annoyed and are just really good at hiding it.

This is my go-to route for runs under six miles, so… almost all my runs lately. Thankfully those drivers are so friendly!
(The dog on the first house I pass? Not so much! I blame that on him being chained up all the time though. Poor thing!)
Beautiful picture! I get into ruts with my runs to. I have a little choice for short runs but sometimes I just end up running the same route over and over. I think truck drivers are usually a lot more careful, now car drivers lol sometimes they’d skim you just to get past
Yeah, I have been running this route since it’s the safest and closest and saves the most time (I usually don’t drive somewhere to run) and I am over it! 🙂
Truck drivers do usually give me the most space. Some car drivers do too. Not all though 😉
That looks so pretty!
I bet you’re not the only runner they see, that’s way too pretty to be just you and fedex!
It’s funny – there is a sidewalk there, but I haven’t seen ayone there since we moved in almost four months ago! It’s between a highway and a road that is riddled with potholes, so I don’t think many go back there!
Stunning sunrise(?)photo! That’s great that the drivers are so nice.
Thanks! Yes, sunrise 🙂
I am relieved they’re nice to me! I have to run on 55 mph roads to get to safer routes and… it could be worse!
That is great that they are nice. I hate having grumpy people around while running. Maybe they know runners are a huge portion of fedex business?
I hate when dogs are chained. If you have to chain them, why have them? Dogs love to run and play. Poor thing.
Maybe!!! 🙂
It makes me so sad to see him. And he is out there, EVERY TIME. Although, I worry what he would do it he wasn’t chained since he seems so unhappy!
I was wondering where you ran while visiting. It seems hard to plan out a good run since a lot of the roads look like they have very little shoulder and high speed limits. It’s good you have a default route with friendly people!
Yeah, if I don’t want to drive, I have to spend a least a few miles on the roads to get to a trail or a quieter place! I’ve been trying to go during off peak so I am not a nuisance to the drivers. 🙂
Oh, be careful on those highways, Kim! Running on busy roads with no shoulder makes me so nervous… I’m glad the FedEx guys are nice to you! You probably brighten their day!
I am careful 🙂 And I try to avoid the roads during the busy hours.
Oh, I’m glad – I don’t want anything bad to happen to you. (Can you tell I worry a lot?) 😉
I can tell! I can tell you’re a mom. Hee hee 🙂
Yep, you got me!
Look at that gorgeous sky!
That is nice they are friendly. I had two people say hi (rare)to me this morning…maybe since it is lighter people will be friendlier lol
That would be awesome if they were being friendlier for that!
What a photo!!!
Back when I used to run (“run”) my route took me by an aggressive dog who wasn’t chained, but was behind a fence. But the backyard was sunken way down in relation to the road/sidewalk, so I could see right across the top of the fence and the dog could clearly see me and everyone else on the sidewalk. And he was a JUMPER, and LARGE, and would THROW himself against the fence repeatedly trying to jump it.. and the fence was kind of leaning precariously from all of this abuse over what I can only presume were many years. Suffice to say I always got a sprint in when passing that house, regardless of how gassed I was 🙂
So… it was a method of speedwork?! Eek! I wonder if that fence is still like that!
