- Why is health insurance sometimes (too often!) such a back and forth nightmare? I call the doctor to ask what the hell I’m getting billed for, because I didn’t receive an explanation of benefits. They tell me what it’s for, and that insurance didn’t pay. I call my insurance – they didn’t pay because they never got a bill. I call the doctor and tell them to send the bill to my insurance. I had to do that TWICE this week – for my dentist, and my doctor. Grrr. Oh, no problem, I’ll wait ten minutes to talk to the billing department so I can tell them to do their job. Ugh. Wah wah wah.
- Let’s follow that complaint with some good news! I LOVED working with the person who trained me at my job back in 2009, but she quit after I was there for a couple of years to raise her family. Well, she is coming back! She won’t be on my team, BUT! Her first project is with me! I am so STOKED!
- And let’s follow THAT with a cute baby pic! Aww, my nephew James is adorable! The next time I will see him is end of May, yay!
- Some flowers showed up in our yard!
- I am not doing the Fools 5K race this year, but I follow them on Facebook and was surprised to see they moved race day from this Saturday to Sunday due to projected high winds! If I was doing it, I’d be stoked to race on a less windy day, but a few people already said in the comments that Sundays don’t work for them for races. Interesting! Updated to add: here (pdf here) is an article that says more about why they moved it.
- I was talking with a family when I was waiting to get off the train yesterday, and the conversation lead to how people think everyone from Zion is “bad.” And I didn’t even lead it there! At least people aren’t just saying it to me, ha. I’ve had more interesting conversations since I last posted about people’s reactions to me moving to Zion. One guy asked me (after I told him) “You didn’t move to the hood, did you?!” <— insert his face of panic. Um, no. I wonder if this perception will change over the years?

Ugh. The insurance process is such a nightmare 🙁 I hope it gets straightened out. James is so adorable! He’s got a great smile.
I bet they’ll figure it out at some point if they want to get paid, by me! 🙂
And I heard that smile now includes one tooth! ha ha.
Health insurance is such a nightmare. I had doctor’s appointments on January that I STILL haven’t gotten billed for (though at least I have EOBs for them as of last week) because it’s taking my insurance that long to process the claim–and these were checkups! Sigh.
I am so surprised by all this Zion stuff. I honestly had no clue it was a “bad” place to live until you started blogging about how people say that. I actually assumed it was really nice since it was north! Haha.
Man, that is a loooooooooong time. And hard to plan on, budget-wise! I was impressed I got the EOB and bill for the mammogram thing so quickly – I was thinking it would take awhile. Yet… still haven’t gotten the EOB from something before that from the same office… since they never sent the bill. Anyway, you know that. Ha ha.
Lake County, especially the train line I take home, is an interesting mix of the NICEST neighborhoods on one stop and the bad reputation ones the stop after. It’s really interesting to me, and kind of tells the story of how the city expanded (and a bit of gentrification).
I hate dealing with heath insurance. I don’t blame you for being fed up! Your nephew is adorable. I much rather races on Sunday at least you have Saturday to get there and get your packet.
If they didn’t get the bill, I’ll blame the doctor’s office. Isn’t that what they should be doing and not having to be told to do it?
Ha ha, yes, that’s my point in the rant – I’m not sure why I have to tell them to send the bill.
Ugh, I cannot even with health insurance and doctor’s offices these days. I had to get a refill on my migraine medicine, which I would normally do online, but I couldn’t use the patient portal because it’s a controlled substance. It took exactly a week to even get someone on the phone about it. >:( And then Tuesday I found out a skin medication I’ve been using has suddenly jumped from $25/refill to $197/refill. No one has yet to give me an answer I can understand as to why.
Conversely, I called the vet yesterday to sort out about 10 different things with the kitties and it was all taken care of immediately. I think I might start going to the vet.
(Your nephew is ADORABLE!)
Sigh. That should take minutes to get someone on the phone about, too. I just don’t get it 🙁 I hope you finally got it! And that the skin med prices go back down – wtf!!!!!
HA! Maybe we all should use the vet 😉
Thanks 🙂
Oh my, Zion must have quite the rep.How odd a conversation would end like that.
I hate insurance issues like that. I felt that way trying to deal Social security and disability for my Mom, you get passed around a lot of but can hardly get an answer. It is annoying!
Your nephew is adorable 🙂
Passed around is right. Even within the insurance and doc. Sigh. They are probably as frustrated as us. I hope things got worked out for your mom!
My mom told me once never to pay medical bills until they threaten to send you to collections….because sometimes it takes that long to process everything on the doctor’s and the insurance’s end. Ridiculous.
Crocuses in the yard is always a sure sign of spring!
That’s good advice (well, maybe pay after EOB is correct, lol) and I hope most parents or SOMEONE share that with young people. Steven and I were talking about it this week and really hope no one just pays these bills the first time they see them if something seems off!
As someone who has to work with insurance every day. It is a pain. We have a shortened process compared to doctors offices and hospitals but its still a pain and its so confusing…for everyone. As for doctors offices I found it weird that I just received my bill for lab work done at my physical which was back in August. Talk about delayed…
Your nephew is adorable!!
Your nephew is so adorable! Yay for your coworker coming back!
