Data’s big Photoshop secret

By , February 23, 2016 6:07 am

In a rare moment of openness, Data has asked me to share the blemish I’ve been using Photoship to hide on him for the past year. So. brave.

Are you ready for it?

Here we go…

Here’s the edited photo of Data modeling the beginning of the fail hat:

Looks, normal, right?

But here’s the original unedited photo:

Gasp! See that weird spot where there’s a whisker missing?

Poor guy. I have no idea what happened there. We noticed it last year, and unfortunately, it’s a spot where the fur doesn’t grow back. So Data looks ridiculous, and he’s embarrassed.

Another photo I edited it off of.

But he wanted to come clean about it. He felt bad about lying. Even though I do it all the time:

I made sure to edit that zit off my face (on the left) before texting* that photo to my mom and snister, ha. And if I have a zit, I always edit it off my face before posting it here. I’m not worried about those dark under eye circles and smeared make-up. Nope, just blemishes.

Don’t feel bad, Data. We all do it!

*I was so happy when xaarlin shared an app with me that allows you to cover zits – I always had to use my computer before. Now I can do it on the fly. Ha! I’m not a fan of overly edited photos that don’t even look real anymore, though. I cover zits, hide things in the background, change lighting and vibrancy… and that’s about it.

Data, we love you no matter what!!

    But seriously, what’s the app???

  2. Anne says:

So brave, Data. Heidi could tell stories about all the things that were photo-shopped out of her photos during her modeling days.

I used to edit under-eye circles out of all my pictures using Picasa (also on my computer). I think my PhotoEditor app has that option too, but anymore I just look so awesome that I don’t bother with editing 😉 (I kid… I just don’t take the time to do it!)

Poor guy! We had a cat when I was a baby all the way through high school, and one of his whiskers turned white. He was an all black cat, so that white whisker stood out. Then he got another white whisker on the same side. They didn’t even balance out.

  4. Alyssa says:

I would edit my zits out of photos too. Mostly because otherwise I don’t see anything in the photo except the big zit! I will have to try that app!

  5. Chaitali says:

lol… poor Data! Perry has the top of one ear torn off 🙁 We don’t know how he get that but I guess he was a street brawler before finding a home with us 🙂 I used to always edit out my under eye circles but then just gave up on it.

  6. Awwww, poor Data!!! I feel your pain about the zits, too. I had a major zit last week and was lamenting the irony of having grey hair and zits at the same time. =( I’ve never edited photos other than to adjust brightness and clarity, mostly because I don’t know how. I need to get familiar with your photo editing app!!!

It should be one or the other, right?! 🙂

I think those two things are all most photos need, except the stray zit here and there. Things get so over edited they don’t look real anymore! But I already said that, ha ha.

  7. Shelley B says:

It’s funny, I don’t care about wrinkles and dark circles, but I, too, will smooth over a zit in a picture.

Poor Data. Is Rogaine For Cats not an option? 😉

    • kilax says:

That IS funny! Maybe cause we are used to the rest of it, and a zit is just SO unwelcome?

Ha! Ha ha! I will ask him if he wants me to check. Funny you say that – when we adopted him he had a large bald spot on his leg (still does, actually). When he’s stressed he’ll lick his fur until it’s gone. Happily he hasn’t done that in a long time!

  8. karen says:

    Poor kitty 🙁
I use to edit, but I don’t much anymore lol I didn’t edit my zits, though, it was my teeth. I use to whiten them 🙂 Now I actually try to whiten them when I notice lol

awh, Data looks so sad in that pic! He’s so cute! I didn’t know there were zit editing apps, who knew? hehe!

    • kilax says:

In the fourth pic? It’s because he realized he was in a room with a ceiling fan 😉

      Thanks!

It’s a photo editing app with a section of touchup tools 🙂

  11. Alice says:

oooooh i want that app. haha. i use filters to soften the blow when i look especially.. um.. painful? 😉 but would love to blot out the occasional zit or distracting element in the background!

So brave coming clean, Data! 🙂 Bella has a patch of bald skin behind one of her ears – I think she came to me that way, but she was so skittish when I first got her that I never would have been able to notice it at first.

    • kilax says:

It’s Pixlr! It works well! Ha! Painful… whatever do you mean?!?! 🙂

Awww, Bella! I wonder if her claws were too long and she scratched it bald!

  12. kapgar says:

I have zero comment on feline vanity. I was going to ask about the app but I see that was addressed by the previous commenter. So… no comment.

  13. ChezJulie says:

I agree that it’s very brave of Data to go “au naturel.” He is showing us that beauty comes in every size, shape, and manner of whisker pad.

  14. Erin says:

Aww, Data! We love you anyway.

Ashley had a missing spot of fur on her face, too. She had it when we adopted her and I always assumed it was because she was grouchy and got bit by another dog.

As for myself, I edit out blemishes and I fully admit that I sometimes smooth out the under-eye circles. I only use PicMonkey, though, so I can’t get too fancy 🙂

  15. Poor Data! But I do love that picture of him under the blanket. I want Lola to do that too but she refuses. Stubborn girl!!!

  16. Mica says:

I would not have noticed either one! Data, you’re handsome all the time, no need to hide behind editing! <3
