Random Thoughts Thursday 87
- We’ve arrived to the part of winter where I see it’s going to be 20°F and think “Oh, it’s gonna be warm today!” Ha! We have an actual warm spell coming Friday, accompanied by 30 mph winds with 60 mph gusts. Okay, then. I hope that isn’t a sign of how our spring will be – you all know I get a little stabby with the high winds.
- I spoke too soon on Monday when I mentioned we hadn’t seen Denali in awhile – he/she came around that morning. I realized Denali was visiting when I saw legs from the basement window. Creepy! Ha! Then Denali and Data had words and I heard Data make some noises I’d NEVER heard from him before. Eek.
I feel bad for Denali. I wish his/her owner would give him some love.
- Would you live in a house without a bathtub? Our new house is 1.5 baths, and there’s no bathtub! Only a shower! I LOVE taking baths, so we worked it in to the FHA 203k work to renovate the first floor bathroom to be a full bath. And we just ordered a deep soaker bathtub for it. SO. EXCITED!!!!!
- Now I know why I have a hard time remembering English words from time to time (pdf here) – it’s because my brain knows too many Spanish ones! There ya go! It’s not cause I’m crazy. Nope, nope, nope. Ha, seriously though, xaarlin shared this article and it makes so much sense to me – when you know (or are learning) two languages, your brain has to make a choice each time about which language to use, and sometimes it messes up and you can’t remember a word you know and used all your life, even if you are speaking in your native tongue. But it’s actually a good exercise for your brain to choose between the two languages! I forget words all the time, so let’s say it’s this, okay? (I know it totally isn’t.)
- I had mentioned I was hoping I’d still be able to see the sunrise and sunset from our new home, and I can! And it’s just a short run to get more of the vista. Now I just need to work on my timing!
My boyfriend and I had the bathtub versus shower discussion when we were looking for an apartment. We’ll never have more than one bathroom in the city, so it’s either/or and limited to what you can actually find, ha. I like having a bathtub for the possibility of ice baths even though I rarely take them. Eric LOVES a walk in shower so he doesn’t have to step into/out of a bathtub. I always had a bathtub growing up, so I think it would be weird to not have one!
I bet it’s hard to find a place there with a bath, right? It would be a simple cut to save on space!!!
He would like the shower we do have, then! It’s a huge walk in. It’s actually a bit dark (dark tile inside) and we’ll eventually replace it with glass.
So what did you end up with at your place?!
Many apartments do have bathtubs, some of them are just a bit smaller than a normal size tub. The apartments that really want to save space have tiny showers. We ended up with a bathtub – we weren’t able to get the first apartment we put an application in on (that had a walk in shower, ha) because someone beat us to it by about 30 minutes. Eric was at the airport to fly back to Minneapolis when we found out, so I was on my own to find another apartment. The bathroom is actually large by NYC standards, and the rest of the apartment fit the bill, so he’s not too sad about having a tub. 🙂
Ahh, I am happy it all worked out!!!!
I feel bad for Denali too 🙁 And for Data, since the visits are obviously stressing him out.
I didn’t take baths for 20+ years, and only started a couple years ago to do epsom salt soaks after long runs. I’ve only taken 2 baths since we moved, so I’d probably be okay without a tub. Although I do love when we stay at hotels with hot tubs, so I probably wouldn’t mind one of those 🙂
I have the same timing problem! It’s only about a 5 minute walk to the good sunrise spot. We’ll leave the house for Heidi’s morning walk and I can see that the sky looks awesome, but it’s almost always faded by the time we get there.
I still need to talk to Steven to see what he’d like to do about Denali. I’d like to talk to his owner again, but I wonder what good that will do 🙁
YES I LOVE EPSOM SALTS!!!! I am missing those soaks BIG TIME right meow. Totally sounds like you are okay without them though LOL 🙂
It’s that crazy how fast the sky changes?! You gotta MOVE when you see something you want to capture! I was hurrying this am to catch that sunrise!
Poor Denali 🙁 I wish he had an owner who cared about what he’s up to all day.
Well, I think once I’m running more (frequency and distance), I’ll get back on the epsom salts wagon 🙂 But that’s the only time I ever really take baths!
That’s me every morning – hurrying! And Heidi just takes her time, sniffing everything. It’s like she’s colorblind and can’t enjoy the sunrise or something. 😉
Our neighbors to the west just stopped by and told us Denali’s owners are very nice and their young son (?) is supposed to watch him… it was good to hear they are nice!
TAKE ONE NOW! FOR ME!!!! 🙂 I love one on a cold day. 🙂
Heidi says nothing will ever be as beautiful as her, so why hurry to look at it?!
I love that Data has a neighbor friend…sort of…haha! Yay for a good vista. I have to go to the end of our driveway for the sunrise but we get a great sunset in back. I find I use the kids’ smaller rub because it takes so darn long to fill the big one. The last time I did that I used one of those Lush bath bombs. Little did I know it was a glitter bomb!
Oh no. A glitter bomb?! How could they even make that?!?!?!!??!!? Horrible! Ha!
I love, love, love baths. And I really want a claw foot tub. With kids, too, I can’t imagine having a shower only.
I feel so annoyed for you with the Denali situation. It is not OK to let animals roam. Just not. I’m not sure what I’d do about it, though. I’m not a confrontational person so I’d probably stew about it and then call Animal Care & Control if it got out of hand.
Yeah! A shower only would totally NOT work for kids!
We thought about getting a claw foot one, but I didn’t want to have to clean the floor around it! Sooooo lazy 🙂
I want to try to talk to the owner another time before I call anyone. It’s silly though – Denali is not here all the time so I can see them wondering what the big stinking deal is! It’s just that it makes Data loco when Denali visits! (and then there’s the poop in the yard)
Our house has 2 full baths, but one has a tub and the other just has a shower. We usually just shower and rarely use the tub, but it’s nice to have it there for the days we need a soak. We’re planning on renovating the bathrooms at some point and thought about changing the tub to another shower, but decided against it. I hope things work out with Denali! He’s beautiful but it sounds like he’s stressing poor Data out.
That is nice you have both options! DEFINITELY KEEP THE TUB when you reno! LOL 😉
I hope things work out with Denali too 🙁 Maybe Data will get used to him/her?!
That view is great 🙂 That will be a treat in Spring.
I feel so bad for the dog, how sad he just wanders around.
The condo we rent doesn’t have a tub, just a large shower with a door. I don’t really mind. Honestly, the only baths I’ve taken in the past few years were ice baths.
A bathtub is one of my must-have’s when searching for an apartment! When I was looking last summer, my soon-to-be roommate had no preference because she never takes baths, but I cannot live without a bathtub – bubble baths are my jam!
(Okay, okay, I could probably live without a bathtub, but why would I want to?!)
Ha ha! Love this comment! That is how I feel too! It’s been over two weeks since my last bath! SADNESS!!!
That picture of Denali is so creepy but cool! I could not live without a bath tub. I am always in the bath. Maybe it’d be better for the planet if I didn’t have one ha ha.
I don’t remember the last time I took a bath. Our upstairs bathroom (which is mostly mine) has a bathtub.
I loathe 20 degree days. We had a string of them a couple weeks ago. So hard to walk the 1 block from the open parking lot to the office. It was 61 on Wed here. Bring on the warmer weather.
Ugh, I remember going on a run when it was 20º one winter and sweating and saying, “Wow, it’s so warm today!” Ugh! Is your house pretty warm, or do you keep it chilly? (I feel like you kept your old townhouse on the chillier side and would wear sweatshirts and pants?)
I’m going to read that article after this, but that point doesn’t surprise me at all. Actually, one of my bilingual (En-Sp) coworkers just came back to the US for awhile after moving to Argentina for five months. He said he was having a hard time with English which surprised me because he’s bilingual, but that makes sense now!
We are still keeping it chilly! 🙂 Good memory! 🙂
Oh wow! I bet that is why!!! I thought the article was interesting!
