House Project: Garbage Disposal
Our first completed house project! Yay!
Our home was move in ready, but we have a HUGE list of improvements we look forward to making (and then there’s another list of stuff our contractor will be doing!). The first thing Steven tackled and completed this week was installing a garbage disposal. We had one at our townhome and didn’t realize how much we used it until our rental house didn’t have one and it that made me loco (seriously – I got so sick of picking bits of food out of the sink to throw away).
Under the kitchen sink – before
The garbage disposal at the new house required some special attention because we’re on a septic tank. That’s the little blue box on the front of the unit – every time the disposer is turned on, it injects microorganisms in to the disposer to break down the food waste in the septic system. Gotta keep the new septic tank healthy!
Under the kitchen sink – after
Steven said it wasn’t too bad to install – he rerouted a few pipes and put in an outlet. And it only required ONE trip to Menards! Maybe everything will go this smoothly?! Ha!
And! We got to use it last night when we made dinner. Yay, home cooked food!!!!!!!!!!!
And sort of related (because it’s also in the kitchen) – we have more space in our kitchen/dining area, so Steven was able to bring home his espresso cart from the Fake Meats warehouse (he used it there, before)!
And bonus – we can put ALL the coffee things on/in it, which frees up counter space. Schweet! Eventually, I’d like to get a buffet for the wall next to the cart, to store serving platters and alcohol-y things in, but that’s a way down the road.
I love when you can get things in a nice little compact area with storage 🙂 that cart is awesome, very pretty.
YES! It’s so satisfying! Setting things up and organizing has been really fun 🙂
The garbage disposal is one of those simple things that I could not live without. We didn’t have one 2 rental places ago and I really missed it!
It probably feels so good to get stuff accomplished around the house!
I hope your next place has it! Have you settled on where you’re going?
It sure does! 😀
The garbage disposal was the first thing we had to replace in our home when we bought back in 2011! I wouldn’t want to live without one!! My husband and his BIL installed it but it hooks up to our dishwasher and apparently you have to pop a piece out of the PVC pipe if you, in fact, have it hooked to the dishwasher… and we only found that out when we ran the dishwasher and water went everywhere! Oops. Luckily we caught it right away and it was a quick fix!
I love your coffee/espresso cart! We have a kitchen reno in the planning phase and one thing I want to add is another counter or bar area in our breakfast area so we can move our coffee station over there and free up more counter space!
Oh no!!! I hope that wasn’t a total headache to clean up! You’ll never make that mistake again 😉
Oh schweet! I hope you get to do your reno soon!
Yay garbage disposal!! We had one when we lived in a house with a septic system but I was always afraid to use it. I don’t recall having a fun little blue box on ours.
Do you guys have tablet things that you have to add to the septic tank every now and then? I remember having to try and remember to do that 🙂
Also yay for more space!
I wonder if yours had something internal to help with the septic?
We probably do! I should put a reminder in the calendar to do it, ha!
Do you use the espresso cart for anything or do you still use your keurig for tea? (And just regular “tiger/lion” tea too?)
I’m really impressed Steven is so handy. I don’t know if I could install a garbage disposal.
My keurig broke! So I use a Kettle. I asked Steven if I could put my tea on his cart and he gave me the side eye. Ha! Yes! Still tiger and lion tea!!! 🙂 Oh! I do put the frother in the cart, but technically that IS Steven’s 🙂
He impresses me, too! He will tackle anything!
