Random Thoughts Thursday 86
- I’ve reached my eating out threshold – I can’t do it anymore. I need a home cooked meal. Ha! This was actually one of my biggest worries about moving – how much we’d be eating out due to not having appliances with which to store food and cook. The appliances were installed Tuesday, but we had our well chlorinated on Tuesday and couldn’t use any water until Wednesday so the house hasn’t been conducive to cooking. Today, hopefully!
- But, yay, new appliances!!!
The thing to the left of the dishwasher is a trash can holder – we have to find the right size square trash can to put in it.
We plan to have a backsplash put up, then we’ll put the hood in above the stove.
The delivery guys asked if we got red because we’re Blackhawks fans! Ha! Nah, getting red was just a special treat for us.
- In other house news, Denali didn’t stop by yesterday or Tuesday! I hope he/she is somewhere warm! (And stays there.)
- Ha, that model I wrote about? The only one I’ve kept? Data knocked it off a shelf this weekend. No more models! Thanks for deciding for me, Data!
- Speaking of things breaking, only a few things did during the move – a cheapo lamp we don’t care about, a clear cylindrical vase that probably came with some flowers, a piece of art I was able to fix, and something else I threw right in the trash because I didn’t care about it anyway. Ha! Our movers were wonderful and did a great job! I am so happy we hired them – it made things SO MUCH EASIER for us. I highly recommend Lake County Movers if you’re local!
- The movers were not able to completely clear out our storage space on Saturday, so there are a few things remaining there – garage stuff, all our books, games, the Wii stuff, a few kitchen boxes, Christmas decorations, old clothes that don’t fit – all stuff I haven’t seen in months and am not too worried about. Ha. We’ll get to it when we can (or have the movers do it – Steven and I weren’t expecting them to be able to get it all on Saturday, anyway) – all the important stuff is at the house!
- An enthusiastic “yes!” to the timing of this Just Little Things post! Gah, with the move I thought I lost my favorite hat and panicked until I located it in my purse. I don’t lose things. Or misplace them. That’s not in my nature. I’m organized when it comes to keeping track of my stuff. So for me to be forgetting where things are… must mean I am a bit stressed. It was hard for me to not know where things were after the move (because the movers put some things in larger unlabeled boxes). I couldn’t stop thinking about whatever it was until I found it!
Found it! Phew!
My mom has one of those trash can drawers and uses 2 rectangular cans in it (one for trash and one for recycling).
Ahh, that’s a good idea! 😀
Eating out is such a love hate thing for me. It sounds soooooo good in theory because I really don’t like cooking, but in practice you feel so yucky if you do it too much.
Yay Data, thanks. Lol!
Cute hat!!
Exactly – and I am feeling the yuck right meow!
Thanks 🙂
Yay! You found your hat! I’m totally the same when something is misplaced or I can’t find it. Drives me batty until I locate it.
It looks like the kitchen in your new house was updated by the previous owners. It looks really nice and the appliances you chose look perfect. I bet you (aka Steven) are excited to put them to use! Can you use the stove without the hood?
Thanks! I think they did upgrade the counters before they moved out. I’ve used the stove without the hood to make oatmeal… ha! I think we’ll use it without the hood. 🙂
We eat out waaaaayyy too much and I hate myself for it. But unlike you, I don’t have a good reason – I just don’t make time to grocery shop and I hate how much time it takes to prep and cook so I just avoid it. But I too reach my breaking point. There’s only so much Jimmy Johns a girl can handle.
Glad you found your cute hat, and that most of your stuff arrived unscathed! Yay!
LOL re: Jimmy Johns!!! Have you found any easy meals you don’t mind making? I have a few I make that are quick and easy. My husband does the complicated stuff (and I sous chef).
I have. And sometimes I’m on top of it with food. And then other times…yeah. Some weeks are just easier than others.
My parents have the trash drawers and love them. You no longer have to have those out for all to see.
It will be nice to have it hidden! 🙂
Congrats on the appliances! They look great!
Thanks 🙂
Lucky or what that anything that broke you didn’t care too much about! Love the red (my fav color) washer and dryer. Yay for home cooking.
The house looks like it’s coming along nicely! I would definitely be craving a home cooked meal after too much eating out so fingers crossed that you can get some cooking in today 🙂 And it’s great that you had such a good experience with your movers.
Did Lake County movers pay you to say that? Are those opinions your own? 🙂 If they move long-distance we’ll keep them in mind, but I think (hopefully!) we’re done moving locally. Glad you had such a great experience though! I’m always nervous about movers, so it’s good that things worked out!
Eating out all the time gets old so fast! For the week that we were starting to move up here from Wheeling, all I wanted was to cook something. Or eat a vegetable LOL. But we wouldn’t get home until 8 or 9 most nights (which you know is HOURS after Terry likes to eat haha) and I was always too tired to cook. I’m glad your schweet new kitchen is all ready for you to cook in (and for me to envy)!
I wonder if Denali saw your blog post and got the hint? 😉
Oh, you’re right! I forgot to say that that is my own opinion and they didn’t give me anything (I did negotiate weekday pricing for the weekend since it’s the slow season). The guys were SO great! It’s really impressive how fast they move!
That was us last night! Could have cooked but didn’t leave Menard’s until 8:00. LOL. I am DETERMINED to cook tonight. When are you coming over to bake with me? Ha, almost everything is put away in the kitchen EXCEPT the baking sheets.
Must have! Ha!
Oooh, that’s a good deal! They’re probably happy to have any business this time of year, since most people do seem to move in the summer. Or at least, I always have 🙂
You tell me when we’re having our baking party!! This weekend is pretty busy, and my parents are here the next, so sounds like the end of Feb 🙂
Cool! Maybe after Frosty or the weekend after! 🙂
OMG yes, Frosty! And your class the day before. I was thinking that was a mostly free weekend. Oops!
Giant heart eyed emojis at those appliances!!!!
😀 😀 😀
All the appliances!! They look fabulous btw. I’m a sucker for wood and stainless steel. 🙂 glad you had a good experience with the movers and soooo happy you located your hat.
What will be first thing you (I mean Steven) cooks in your new place? 🙂
Dying at Anne’s comment. 😉
Thanks! I like the combo, too! And eventually in the very far future we’ll change up the wood colors 🙂
Pasta w/broccoli and soy curls… which you saw!!! 🙂
Ha ha! I was too! 🙂
I love your appliances! We actually have the same fridge, and the only thing I don’t like about it is that there isn’t an ice maker hooked up. Glad to hear things are going smoothly!
Thanks! Yeah, they are going to come back and put one in… maybe? I don’t really want one/or use ice. I don’t mind having ice cube trays – taking it back in time, ha!
I’m coveting that washer/dryer set. I hope you are enjoying your new house. And…get to cooking!
I got really excited when I saw your trash thinger because I thought it was a warming drawer and it made me think of warm bread and dinner rolls. I <3 carbs.
I also find it amusing that your neighbor dog is Denali and appears to be a husky/mix. I would never let our dog out like that because I'm not sure he'd come back. Also, loose dogs scare me.
Lots of people are thinking that is what it is!!! Ha! Should I take it out and put that in instead?! LOL!!!
Oh yeah! Isn’t your dog named Denali, too?!?!? Or am I thinking of the wrong name? I find it very odd to let a dog roam like this. Still haven’t seen him/her in 3 days though. Hope that means Denali is home!
Yep! Our husky is Denali, too.
Awesome! 🙂
P.S. I ordered that vest! Too cold to use it this week, maybe next! Thanks again for doing the research!
As I’ve mentioned, I’m SO happy that we are settled so that we aren’t eating out!
And I love the red washer/dryer – talk about stylish design!
It’s funny how eating out seems like such a luxury but after a few times (like, while out on vacation), you’re so ready to cook for yourself. (Or maybe have Steven cook something yummy?)
I’m glad the appliances finally got there (though I’m a bit late reading this, so you’ve had them for awhile!).
I totally get that way after vacation! Like “oo, this is fun!” Then… I WANT VEGETABLES! Ha! I like to do VBRO or AirBnB so I can cook!
Thanks! We really like them so far! 🙂 The dishwasher is so quiet, I am like “is this thing on?!”
Love the new appliances. As for eating out, I get burnt out on it plenty quick working downtown and rarely bringing a lunch or leftovers. My wife is now vegetarian (for animal reasons, not diet) and so we are starting to get creative on meals. Lots of potatoes. Fortunately, she still eats dairy, so cheese and eggs and sour cream help add to the meals.
Aww, that’s cool that she is trying the vegetarian thing. You know I have lots of meal ideas if you need help 😉
