Talktoofast
I’m in training at work this week and we have some group activities (joy). During our afternoon activity yesterday, someone in my group (politely) told me I talk too fast. Then everyone else chimed in that they agree.
Huh.
I told them, “that’s funny – in the last training class I took, my group also told me I talk too fast.”
Oops.
So am I talking fast in these groups so I’ll be heard? Or do I talk fast all the time?!
^^^Not how I feel AT ALL, but it made me laugh!!!
The funny thing is, Steven and I were listening to a book on tape (well, MP3, ha) and at first, I struggled to keep up with listening when we played it at 1.25x speed. So, I can’t listen to fast talkers well (but really CANNOT deal with slow talkers – it’s a huge pet peeve of mine)… but apparently am one?
Eh, at least they didn’t tell me I talk too much. I will never forget the time that an unwanted acquaintance told me that… confirming again, that I didn’t care for them, and that they didn’t for me. But I have to thank them for reinforcing a belief of mine – if you show your true self to someone and they are unkind, don’t bother with them. I’d rather have relationships where I don’t have to be guarded (I have a few of those as is, and I don’t care for it).
Huh. I definitely didn’t feel that way when we met, but, I have been told the same…so maybe you sound “normal” to me. Teehee!
Ha! We must be on the same wavelength 🙂
^ I was going to say the same thing! Spending time with you in the past, I never got that impression. But I talk very fast so maybe I’m not a good gauge. 🙂
Funny, we were interviewing people for a job on our team and my boss complained that someone talked too slow and draws their words out. I didn’t notice at all, but my boss is a born-and-bred New Yorker, so maybe that’s why??
That is funny your boss said that! Did the person get the job?
I bet I would notice it. I really can’t stand it when people take forever to say what they are saying.
Now you have to a video for us who don’t get to talk to you 🙂
Buah ha ha. here you go: http://www.ilaxstudio.com/blog/2010/11/23/how-to-fold-a-fitted-sheet/
I don’t think you talk too fast! But maybe I talk fast?
My mom talks really slowly, and I can usually tell what she’s going to say, which drives me nuts (just get on with it already!). So I think I’d prefer a fast talker to a slow one 🙂
If you do, I’ve never noticed it!
OMG, yeah… I have some family members like that…
I’m sure everyone does! And then my mom will say “To make a long story short…” about 10 minutes too late. 🙂
As a fellow fast talker, I so relate to this post. And I talk even faster when I am nervous, HAHA!
I also agree, guarded relationships are the worst…sometimes you can’t avoid them (co-workers for example) unfortunately.
Yep to both of those statements! One of my most guarded is with a coworker.
Interesting! I don’t think I’ve ever noticed that about you either. Or, if I did, it was in the context of you being super excited about something so it’s totally understandable 🙂
Right?! That would make sense. Me being excited about a training exercise? NOT likely. HA!
I’ve noticed that you speak quickly but because I do too! And not like it’s “too” fast — it’s more that I notice that you speak enthusiastically about things!
That’s a good point about keeping friends who accept your true self. Also…no friends who are slow talkers! 😉
I’ve been told I talk too fast too. Hmmm. Actually, I was told twice in the same week.
Uh oh!!! Do you think you do?
Nope. But then I’ve also been told I talk funny.
