Nothing homemade

Our little tree now has (a little amount of) presents under it!

And not a single one is homemade*.

Sigh.

When I started knitting this year, I thought I would knit lots of holiday gifts for people. I had even bought a complicated cable pattern and yarn to make a scarf for Steven’s dad, and was looking forward to it.

Broken record: you know what happened. We sold our house, blah blah blah. All of my free time was spent doing house stuff or running/exercising. The last time I knitted was at the end of October, when I finished this hat! Gah!!

I missย knitting. I hope I can pick it back up, soon. And maybe I can make that scarf for a birthday gift… nothing weird about getting a scarf for an August birthday, right?!

*Last year, I wrote about wishing I had a skill that would translate in to homemade gifts… funny to me that I do now, but didn’t use it.

  1. Confession time: I have exactly ZERO holiday decorations up. ZERO. How much of a grinch does that make me? So your tree with its presents (whether homemade or nonhomemade) looks darned festive to me. =)

I hope you can pick knitting back up soon, too! I know how much you love it and I love seeing your amazing creations!

That doesn’t make you a grinch at all! Because… I just put mine up yesterday. And we wouldn’t have anything up if we weren’t hosting! Thanks for your nice words!

I hope I can knit a bit in January before we move again!

Happy Birthdays to our husbands! ๐Ÿ™‚

I am sure people understand! I definitely didn’t do my usual level of homemade treats or presents this year because I didn’t have the time or the money. As my husband keeps reminding me when I feel bad, your family and friends just want time with you at the Holidays.

    • kilax says:

Exactly! People do just want to be together ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the fact that the holiday is so close and we barely did anything for it makes me feel like I lost two months (and really, more) and… I hope next year is not the same.

Broken record, no kidding. Stop blogging about the same thing over and over again! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have no idea when Heidi’s birthday is, so she’ll take her scarf anytime. ๐Ÿ™‚

I barely had it together enough to even buy presents this year, let alone make anything! So it happens, don’t worry.

    • kilax says:

Buah ha ha ha. I really should stop ๐Ÿ˜‰ At least until we move to our permanent home… all those renovations will be interesting to read about, right? RIGHT?! Clay tile roof repair! OOOOO BOY!

The cowl she requested is really similar to ones I’ve made before and are quite easy to do! That will probably be my next project, once we pick out yarn ๐Ÿ™‚

It totally happens. I am lucky it was on a year where we are seeing Steven’s family first – buying for two people is a lot easier than several (in my family)!

      • Anne says:

Yes, please stop. But renovations would be interesting. You know all I do in my free time is watch HGTV. Does your house have an open concept? What kind of backsplash, wainscotting and crown molding do you have???

Ah yes, the yarn! Coffee and Hobby Lobby date then! If only they were pet-friendly. I’m sure Heidi would love to pick out the yarn herself. Hopefully she trusts my judgement.

That’s just it though, I only have a few people to shop for and Christmas still snuck up on me!

        • kilax says:

Ha ha ha. It has NONE of those things!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ But I do get to pick out a new bathtub. Woot woot!

Hmm, maybe we should get a variety to show her? We know she looks good in B&W ๐Ÿ™‚

Did you get those presents, yet? Or still gotta do it? ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh no! Don’t feel guilty about not having homemade gifts! (Not that I should be telling you how to feel!) You already give so much to your friends and family throughout the year, in time and friendship AND homemade things.

Maybe for 2016, we can start our Christmas knitting early and keep each other apprised of our progress!

  5. Alyssa says:

Well all your knitting earlier in the year, finally inspired me to get my crocheting back out! So I actually have made several homemade gifts for Christmas! That sounds like I’m trying to rub it in your face, but I’m not, I just wanted to say thanks for getting me back into it. I forgot how relaxing it is!

I’ve done handmade in some previous years (sugar scrubs, steak rubs, pots of whipped cinnamon butter… haha apparently all food-related even if not edible!) but this year is 100% amazon prime ;-P

    • kilax says:

Amazon Prime is a lifesaver! Most of our gifts are from there, too ๐Ÿ™‚ One friend gave me epsom salts in a blue bell jar – I thought that was a cool “homemade” gift!

  7. Erin says:

You have a legitimate reason for skipping the homemade gifts this year! I’m sure everyone will understand, especially because you give gifts all year long.

This year I was feeling REALLY unmotivated so I feel like some of my gifts are half-assed. But! Jason made some awesome gifts for our nieces and nephews at his current job. Right now he’s working for a company that manufacturers reflective signs and he made each of them their own personalized street sign!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I think they do! ๐Ÿ™‚ I just look at my box of yarn (which I insisted on moving with us) and miss it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I bet your gifts are still awesome! And the signs sound really fun!

  8. karen says:

You have been busy, it is okay ๐Ÿ™‚ Next year will be different i bet!

  9. jan says:

Who has time for homemade gifts this time of year? No judgment here! I think a scarf for an August birthday (or any birthday) would be amazing. Your tree is so pretty!

  10. martymankins says:

Bummer, but cool that you knit. I know several that do and I am in awe of how cool it is to create all sorts of useful things.
