Woo hoo, eight years married*, today!

^inside of my wedding band, in case I forget, ha! Steven has it in his, too.

Another year, no plans. Although that photo is making me feel REALLY hungry for cake! Maybe we need cake plans.

070901eightyears-2

Dayum. Our cake was so good. We ordered it from Deerfields Bakery (this is before I was vegan). The cake was marble, with alternating chocolate and regular buttercream between each level. AND, we ordered two extra sheet cakes, because I LOVE CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK** and wanted everyone to be able to eat as much as they wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

070901eightyears-3

Ha ha ha, this plan backfired a bit. We had so much leftover cake (I know, you’re thinking, “that is a problem how…?”) that our fridge was full of it. And we kept eating it. Then we thought the fridge was broken because nothing was staying cool, so we threw what cake we had left out (minus the frozen top teir, of course), along with some other food.

Then after we threw it out, we realized the cake box was too big and that was keeping the fridge door open. Oops! The fridge was working fine after all (once you closed the door)! Ha!

But I digress, with all that cake talk. What I often think about on our anniversary, beyond how happy I am to have Steven as my partner-in-crime, is how I don’t keep in touch with three of my (four) bridesmaids! Eek! It’s funny to me, that at the time I was getting married, I struggled to think of three people to be bridesmaids (beyond my snister as my maid-of-honor, obvs), because I had so few friends. If I was getting married today, that wouldn’t be a problem! And I bet Steven would still ask the same four guys to be groomsmen.

Anyways. We’re a very happy family of three! And this is a COMPLETELY horrible photo, but I have to show how Data participated in the wedding – by being front and center when we opened gifts the day after!

I love how he has his feet resting on Steven’s shoe – what a goofball! (Also, I have since learned how to sit in a chair with a skirt on.)

*I almost wrote “together,” but that’s not right – we’ve been together thirteen years on September 11th!
**It’s a thing for me and Gina to call it CAK, instead of CAKE, when we are excited about it…

Happy anniversary and …. that is not a horrible photo.

  2. Such a baby getting married 🙂 The cake looks amazing!! No 7 year itch so I guess you guys have got past all the early (bad) milestones. Wishing you many more happy years, with Steven and of course Mr.Data.

LOL! It’s funny you say that, because it a metropolitan area, 23 is a young age to get married, but where I am from, it’s kind of late!

      Thanks!

  3. Awwww happy anniversary! OMG that is totally something one of our cats would do.

It’s interesting how often our close friendships fluctuate, like with you and your 3 bridesmaids. My boyfriend’s dad hasn’t spoken to his best man since the wedding day. So weird!

  4. Happy anniversary! I love cake too! Eric just went to a wedding where they had a candy table instead of cake – NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. I’d support having cake each year. 🙂

I think it’s interesting how our friendships change over time – I don’t think I have a ton of friends, but I do have three-four-isn really good friends who I think I’ll be friends with forever. I’ve been maid of honor in three of their weddings (the fourth isn’t married!), and I”m sure they’ll be my bridesmaids eventually.

Yeah, you gotta have cake. Candy table? Eh. How about cake AND candy?! Ha!

I am hoping that the friends I can think of now, I will be friends with forever, too 🙂 That is cool you’ve been the MOH so many times!!!

  5. Happy Anniversary! Congrats to you and Steven!

  6. Happy Anniversary! I love funny wedding stories like your leftover cake! 🙂 Hope you find some vegan cake to enjoy!!

  7. Tiina says:

Happy anniversary! You guys look so happy 🙂

  8. Lesley says:

Happy anniversary! You’re making me hungry for cake too.

Happy Anniversary (can’t help but think about the Flintstones episode — anybody?). Cake is my weakness. And your photos are seriously giving me cravings. I hope you both enjoy your day.

  10. Karen says:

Happy Anniversary 🙂 I relate to the bridesmaids struggle. I had so much anxiety, I didn’t really want to a regualr wedding.
Your cake was beautiful! Yo guys looked awesome on your wedding day, beautiful dress and head piece 😉
    I love cake tooo!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I hope you got the type of wedding you wanted! I wanted to have bridesmaids… just didn’t have many close friends then, lol!

  11. Happy anniversary!!! I LOVE CAK, tOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Alice says:

Happy anniversary! Eight! That’s so awesome!!

If I had gotten married 7 years ago (aka making this my 8th anniversary) I am SURE I would not still be in touch with all of my bridesmaids. Early 20s me was pretty different than current me 🙂

Awwww, how cute is fuzzy little Data? Not to mention little Kim and little Steven? I didn’t realize that you two had only been married a few years when I first “met” you online. Happy anniversary!

Wittle behbeh Datey! LOL!!! But not so little! 🙂 I loved that he wanted to be around everyone for gift opening!

Yeah, when I started the blog in 2005 I would sometimes talk about the wedding prep stuff (but not too much since Steven did most of the planning, hee hee). Sometimes I forget that many people I connect with now, here, didn’t read, then! (So I can retell stories, yay! Ha!)

      Thanks!

I love so much about this post. Happy Anniversary to you two! No celebratory Red Robin dinner? 🙂

Too much cake IS indeed a problem! When T and I eloped we had what we thought was a small cake – I think it was the equivalent to the top layer of a wedding cake. And I remember thinking “I hope they cut small pieces for our guests!” because I wanted all of it (it was lemon with raspberry, mmm). But we had to travel again 2 days after that, which meant we had to eat all of that cake. Which got to be too much cake. I mean, we did finish it, but obviously it was tough.

Friendships definitely change over time. If I had gotten married in 2007, or when I was 22 or 23, I know my guest list would have been dramatically different (bridesmaid choices not so much, since I had my brother, cousin and best friend of 20 years as 3 out of 4 of mine).

    • kilax says:

Thank you! No, El Famous! 🙂

Yum, your cake sounds so good! It’s too bad you hate it eat it all in two days… 😉 LOL! You should get one recreated for your one year… or sooner!

I was thinking about the guest list, too. Same family there (maybe less of them, actually, ha ha), but again, the friends would be so different, and NO coworkers.

      • Anne says:

That would have been my next guess 🙂

Eating all of that cake was a huge sacrifice, but we did it. Speaking of cake, we were looking at recipes last night and found a vegan cupcake one – Terry suggested we make those and have you over sometime 🙂 But… can they even be good if they’re vegan???

        • kilax says:

Buah ha ha! As long as one of the ingredients isn’t coffee or black beans, then yes 🙂 But I am willing to try them, even if those items are in them! I mean, we’ll probably get sick, since they’re vegan (and not from eating too many) but we should make the sacrifice for experimentation’s sake. 😉

    Wardrobe malfunction!!!!!

    Happy anniversary, you two.

  16. Heather says:

    Happy anniversary!!

The skirt thing makes me laugh because I am almost sure I do that. How do you avoid it?!

    • kilax says:

      Thank you!

You have to cross your ankles and make sure your knees are touching and that your skirt is not lifted up. So much work!

  17. Xaarlin says:

Happy anniversary!! I love seeing all your old photos- it’s so neat to get a peek into someone’s live you’ve met years later 😉 I can’t stop laughing about the cake- it must have been really really good!

    • kilax says:

      Thank you! 🙂

I like seeing people’s past stories and pics, too 🙂 It’s funny, because I was blogging when I got married (and before then), but I had way different readers then, so even if I’ve posted this stuff before, it’s new for some 🙂

  18. Mica says:

I’m a few days late, but happy anniversary to you both! I remembered that you had a non-vegan cake, but I hadn’t heard the story about how big your cake was and its box keeping the fridge open. That cracked me up!

It also makes me want some cake!

  19. jan says:

Love the pictures and that’s one awesome cake! (cak) Happy anniversary!

  20. Congratulations! Cak? Is that how Martin Short pronounced it on the movie “Father of the Bride”?
