The glue expert*
*Not really an expert
When I was chatting with my mom on Mother’s Day, she mentioned my dad was trying to glue cracks in a car dashboard together and it wasn’t holding. She said they were having a hard time finding the right kind of glue.
“Why didn’t you ask me?” I said. “I spent years building models in college! I am the glue expert!”
Of course, after saying that, I promptly forgot about it (since I don’t have to build models any more THANK GAWD)… until last Friday night when my dad hands me a dash and says “Okay, glue expert, tell me what I need.”
Oops. Ha ha.
We went to the hobby store Friday and got the glue I worked with (the most, anyway) in college. We glued the cracks on Saturday. On Sunday, we confirmed they were holding. Yay, success!
This post isn’t actually about glue though. It’s about how good it felt to be able to help my dad with something. All my life, he’s been helping me, doing things for me. It was nice to be able to help him with something for a change.
I felt the same way yesterday when I helped my mom with a write-up for work. It feels good to think I’ve acquired some skills that can assist other people, and especially my family!
And not related, but I have to share this cutie picture of me and Steven that I found when I was looking for the photo above. Awww. Young love!

I’ll put this here since it’s a total First World Problem rant and doesn’t warrant its own post.
The good thing about working from home is that I don’t have to spend money on keeping my professional wardrobe up to date.
The bad thing about working from home is that when I have an important meeting and need to snaz it up a bit, I feel like everything in my closet is super outdated and blah. Ugh.
So I just keep wearing the same blouse and blazer combo and feeling grateful that my meetings are with different clients or that if they are with the same ones, that they are spread out enough that they might not notice the repeat outfit…
Maybe I’ll get a few new pieces at some point. Maybe. But I’d rather spend my money on running shoes and races. Ha!
Themocracy
I hear ya about the clothes..my wardrobe is dangerously empty of everything except race shirts!! I need to start restocking even casual clothes. I’m still wearing clothes I brought over from Ireland which was over 2 years ago
2 years doesn’t sound bad at all! I recently wore the outfit I interviewed for the job I have in… which was over 5 years ago! Eeek!
That outfit is so cute though!! 🙂 You just need to buy more blazers and blouses from the same stores since that is your go-to!

As for the professional clothes, I fear I’m going to be in the same situation if I have to dress up any time soon. All of my business clothes are too big (FWP, right?) and I’d rather spend my money on jeans since I can wear them all the time now 🙂
Yeah, get what you need! And maybe that go-to dress up outfit, lol!
Yes, running shoes and races are way better ways to spend your money! Also, body glide is a much more crucial expenditure! 🙂

The night I wrote this, I went to Kohl’s and bought… a Darth Vader workout shirt! Ha ha ha.

Fun tip, if you are ever down by me, let me know…there is a store called “Clothes Mentor” that is a higher end consignment shop where you can snaz up your drobe for 1/4 of the cost. They have several locations, actually…It’s my favorite place to shop because I get so tired of my clothes quickly yet hate to spend the money to replace them!
Ok, cool! Is it the kind of place where you have to browse through racks of different things? (Rather than everything being the same like at Tarjay?)
Yeah, you have to give yourself some time to go through the racks (sort of like a TJ Maxx) but well worth the money you save in my opinion!!

Having been a “working at home” person myself for the past 20 years, I hear you on the wardrobe thing! And very nice you could help your parents – I love it when my kids can help me out with something really complicated, it’s a great feeling. So I’m pretty sure it made your parents happy too!

Your young love pic is adorable 🙂 I have a closet full of clothes that are okay, but nothing is great. How does that happen? I picked the stuff, but after awhile things seem to lose their appeal. Maybe it’s good just to have a few go to pieces. I often feel uncomfortable in regular clothes, I would really like to live in my work out clothes I guess lol

It does lose it appeal! Usually after a year or two, right? I have stuff in my closet that is 6-8 years old, and it’s holding out, and the prints aren’t offensive, but I am just like… meh!

You help people all of the time! You’re so encouraging when it comes to fitness, running, life in general. You’re always helping me with my pets and were the only one that did anything for me when I broke my hand or had to put my cat to sleep. I am so thankful for you – always!
I hear ya about the wardrobe. My closet is stuffed, but I hate all of it because it’s all been there too long. I need to take a couple of days off work and clean it the hell out!! If you ever want to go shopping, I’m totally up for that!!

Wow, “baby” Kim and Steven, haha (not really)! Do you help your parents with tech stuff? I feel like that’s the only thing I really can help my parents with now because our interests diverge so wildly–most of the things I’m know things about (knitting, running, etc.) are not activities they’re interested in!
I’m sure your dad appreciated getting advice from a real glue expert!
I try to help them a bit with tech stuff! My dad just got an Android phone so I am useless there, but I am decent with computers. Ha ha 🙂 And Garmin watches 🙂 And sometimes cameras.
