Notes:
- I feel like I’ve been cheating lately on my runs – I’ve been running with music again (only when it’s safe to, of course)! For two reasons: to drown out the wind and to get my mind off work. Work’s been kind of intense lately and my runs aren’t giving me that respite I need anymore. My brain is just spinning. So I am trying to let it spin to some upbeat tunes and just zone out (again, safely, of course, ha ha).
- Kelly and I took the week off from our early morning meet-ups so we both could get some extra rest. It was nice to sleep a bit more, but I really missed her, and felt more rushed fitting in my workouts during lunch break or after work! I am looking forward to seeing her again this week.
- The 5K I did in Iowa on Saturday went exactly like I thought it would. And I am pleased with that! I’ll have a recap up later this week.
- My left achilles ached for the first mile on my run on Sunday – I think I wore my racing flats for too many running miles (6) on Saturday! My feet need more support!
- March recap time! I ran 215.3 miles in March, and (indoor) cycled 69.6. I taught ten strength classes, three fitness boxing classes, and one cycling class. I did two strength sessions on my own, and cycled on my own four times. Time to see what April brings!
A lot of negative things in the “felt” sections this week – so sorry to hear that! But I’m glad you had a good 5K race!
It’s funny you mention wearing racing flats for too many miles. I had a similar problem this week. I wore my “speedy” shoes for an 8 mile run and my legs felt HORRIBLE. It was like I was giving them an 8 mile long beating. I couldn’t understand it because I’ve never had problems running long in these shoes before but I guess my feet have just adjusted to my other pair. It scared me because it was only days before a big race! Switched back to my normal pair and felt better.
Yeah, I hope next week is less meh! Maybe when I am running with Kelly again I will have more of a distraction 🙂
They felt horrible DURING the run?! Man, I am happy the other pair helped! Are you going to use the speedy shoes for shorter runs until the marathon?
Sorry, ease dropping on the shoe conversation. That is my obsession lately. A 10K is about what I could do in my light shoes usually, but I just stayed in my Brooks last week and felt better.
Yeah, I don’t think I would ever race longer than a 10K in my flats, and apparently, even my warm-up and cool-down were too much with them! I am pro cushion for most of my runs! 🙂 Although, now that I am writing this, I wonder if I’ve done any speed workouts longer than 6 miles in them before. Hmm.
Glad your runs went generally pretty well this week, although I’m sorry to hear about your angry Achilles. Looking forward to reading your race recap!!
Thanks 🙂 The Achilles was all better after that first mile – I think it wanted reassurance it was in comfier shoes!
Spoiler alert – I won the Athena division! 🙂
I love running with music. I do zone a little, but I can still pay attention and I can hear background noise, I just keep it low. It really relaxes me. I have been there, where my brain will not stop, never a great feeling. Hopefully things will calm down for you.
Your 5K pace is awesome!
I use music but I can’t drown out the wind here. It’s amazing, and it makes me want to crank up the sound but I don’t want to ruin my hearing.
Cheating is running with music? You are too hard on yourself.
How do you keep track of your shoes mileage? I just read Emily’s post on running shoes and I run in one pair for all of my runs.
I haven’t been running with music for about two years and it does feel like cheating to me – it makes it easier, so I usually save it for 5Ks or really hard parts of long runs. Ha ha. But believe me, I am hardly EVER hard on myself! I am probably not stringent enough.
I track my shoes on a Widget on the blog (you can see it on the right side) – manually adding mileage each time I run in them. Garmin Connect also started tracking it in December so I’ve been using that too.
Which Widget is it?
I use a text widget and manually update it. It looks like this:
Miles run on…
Asics Gel Cumulus 14s Berry IV (9/14/14) – 238.8
Asics Gel Cumulus 15s Turquoise/Lightening/Electric Melon II (11/10/14) – 185.4
Asics Gel Cumulus 15s Lite Show Black/Onyx/Flash Pink II (1/18/15) – 161
Asics Gel Cumulus 15s Lightning/Hot Punch/Purple (2/1/15) – 121.4
Asics Gel-Lyte33 3 (9/15/14) – 60.2
Asics Gel-Scout II (12/25/13) – 112.9
I am impressed! I go the Cumulus 16 and am excited about running in them tomorrow.
Oooo! Fantastic! I hope you like them!
