Maybe wearing one earring will become popular again
When I lived in Rome, it was trendy for females to wear only one earring. I saw many other trends during my time there that eventually made it to the US, but never the one earring thing. I could use that, now.
Do you ever do something and feel like a very obvious life lesson is the outcome of it?
That was me, yesterday. In the morning, I grabbed the earrings I wanted to wear and saw they didn’t have backs on them (to keep them on my ears). “Eh, I will be fine,” I thought.
Yeah, you know I came home with only one earring. Sigh.
Many possible lessons out of this one: take care of your stuff, follow your instinct (to put backs on), don’t be in a rush and make stupid mistakes, and don’t get upset and act surprised when your choice with a potentially bad outcome, well, had the bad outcome.
Ahh, that last one. As soon as I realized it was gone (and not stuck in my collar or scarf as I had hoped), I was disappointed for sentimental reasons*, but had to laugh at myself. It was MY stupidity that got it lost! I should always wear backs to my earrings, but especially if I am going to be wearing a bulky scarf, taking a hat on and off throughout the day, and be using headphones! Derrrr.
It’s weirded me out lately, the things that bother me, and the things that don’t. My phone crashing and two pictures randomly deleting themselves (only to reappear 6 days later)? So very pissed. A super major issue at work? Eh. My computer operating slow and not letting me update google docs? OMG I COULD STAB SOMETHING. Train’s late? Oh well. My ride is late? WTF?!?!?!
Ha ha, so I really shouldn’t be patting myself for not sweating the small stuff that was my “fault.” I’ve always been good at that. I’ve always been very easy on myself, and not really let my “failures” get me down. It’s the small stuff that I have no control over, that I need to work on! Probably just like everyone else…
*I got these at an Egyptian exhibit in London. I didn’t wear them often at all, but they reminded me of good times visiting there.
I went to work 2 weekends ago with one earring in. Brian found the other one along with the backing in our bed. Losing my personal things makes me so upset. Right now my pearl earrings that my sister bought me for graduation are somewhere in this house, thankfully in the original. I can’t even begin to think about where they are exactly. Makes me panicky. This is why I don’t buy myself nice things and have requested Brian to stop buying me nicer things. It’s too much of a let down when they get broken or lost.
Oh yay! I am so happy he found it! But you don’t know where the pearl earrings are in the house? Do you not have a spot for all your jewelry? I hope they show up!
That stinks snister. 🙁 Maybe you could take the remaining kitteh off the earring hook and put it on a necklace?
I actually already have a necklace with that on it! But I will definitely save the earring. I keep hoping it’ll show up around my office but maybe I lost it outside!
I’ve been trying to start the trend of wearing two different earrings. It’s not quite catching on yet 🙂
That stinks that you lost your kitty earring! Maybe it went to live with your other sock?
I will join you and help it catch on!
Ha ha ha! They are together in lost&found heaven 😉
Aww what a bummer, I noticed your earrings yesterday and thought they were cute! But I’ve totally had this happen with a pair of dangling earrings I really liked. I remember I looked everywhere, all through my car and in the parking lot and I tried to retrace my steps. I may have driven back to where I was that day … maybe? It was awhile ago. I was really bummed about it.
Thanks! And what a bummer you had the same thing happen 🙁 Could you replace them? I wasn’t as bummed with these since I knew I could if I really wanted.
No, I think I had had them for awhile. I probably got them for under $10 at H&M or somewhere like that
I lost a huge birthstone earring (gift from the hubs a few years ago). I looked everywhere…car, work, parking lot, home. A co-worker found it a couple of months later in a box of rubber bands. Sheesh…go figure. Don’t give up!!
Yay! How fantastic it showed back up!
I hate losing stuff, too…but I like Rachel’s idea – wear it with another one!
It’s all small stuff… 🙂
You could turn that lone earring into a necklace — it would make a really cute pendant! Ooh, I just noticed your sister suggested the same thing, so it must be a good idea. 🙂
I’ve never worn backs on my dangly earrings, I guess I’ve been lucky not to lose any! That totally sucks, and I would be really mad about it. (Let’s be honest, I get mad at everything.)
Oh wait, I forgot to tell you my one-earring story. In college, I was falling asleep in my French lit class, but I was sitting around the table (it was a round-table discussion class) across from the instructor. I started playing with my earrings to keep myself awake, and I managed to take one out and put it back on in the same hole as my other earring — so I was wearing two large, dangly earrings in the same ear. DERRRRRRRRRRRRP. I guess I would have fit in in Rome!
Ha ha ha! That is too funny! How long did it take you to notice you had two in one ear?
Just wanted to let you know, we went to a concert last night of the Flemish group Lais, and one of the three singers was wearing one long earring and in the other ear nothing! It totally made me think of you and I was wondering if she was making a fashion statement, or had simply lost the other one…
Ha! That is too funny! I bet it was a fashion statement 😉
Oh no! Those are so cute too. I hope the other turns up!
