Not enough snow
I think I am the only one a bit sad it looks like this out my office window:
and not this:
Eh, I just thought I was going to get to do this, this weekend:
The organizers of the snowshoe race sent out an email this week that the race is now officially a trail race. No snowshoes. Darn!
It’s all good. It’s my first race of the year, I get to run it with Rachel (!!!) and, I was disappointed in my lack of trail racing last year – this gets the year off to a good start!
Have you ever signed up for a race then had part of it change before race date (location, date, type of race, distance, whatever)?
Ha, maybe it’s me and Rachel. The trail ultra we are planning to do moved weekends. We noticed it way in advance, but were both surprised by it, because we had already marked our calendars!
And I remember last year, a local race I didn’t do switched locations (from one suburban city to another) the week of the race. I bet I would be kind of annoyed if the new location was much farther away!
Oh, bummer! But even without the snow, I hope you will have a great time!
Oh yeah! We definitely will! I wonder if I will still even manage to fall, despite not having the snowshoes on!
Yes, bummer about the snow and the snowshoe race! Let it snow!!
Have you even been able to cross country ski this year?
No, unfortunately I have not. I was in WI after the last real snowfall, but I didn’t pack proper clothes for windchill temps in the -20 range, so I stayed in the spa. Next snowfall I’m heading out no matter what the temps!
Wahhhh!!! I really wanted to race on snowshoes. You know it’s your fault right? I got snowshoes, therefore it doesn’t snow. Isn’t that Murphy’s Law or something?
I’m still excited to race with you this weekend, snow or not!
I hope you get to try one of the other ones, by you, since this one was a bust! Ha! I know it’s my fault. I blame it on booking that vacation though!
I am too!!! First of how many this year?!??!!? 🙂
Well, there’s 52 weekends in a year….
Challenge accepted! Wait. We missed 3!
I can’t even imagine a snowshoe race. Sorry it has changed. But, a race is a race and you’ll have fun!!
Imagine the hardest 5K you have done, with your HR jacked through your chest… and double that. Ha ha! I have done this twice before, and it is SO intense, if you actually try to run! It’s super fun, and it will be fun as a trail race, too! 🙂
How do you do a snowshoe race? I’ve snowshoed but I certainly wasn’t quick.
You use the shorter, aluminum snowshoes, so you can still run in them 🙂 And for the motion… you have to widen your stance quite a bit and make sure to pick up your feet so you don’t fall. Snow goes everywhere!
That’s a bummer! I think that a snowshoe race would be way hard but also tons of fun. I know that the Boulder Marathon was canceled this past year 16 days before the race – because the race organizers didn’t apply for permits in time. I would have been SO pissed. It’s one thing for a race to change venues or even to cancel for reasons out of its control (Ironman Tahoe this year), but because the race organizers messed up…
Anyway, I hope that the trail race is fun, even though it’s not a snowshoe race. Good luck!
Oh gosh, I remember that now! Apart from losing your money… imagine how devastated you would be to have your training go to waste! Did another local race offer discount entries? Seems like it but now I don’t recall.
Thanks!
I love the snow but also hate it. I havent been out snowshoeing this year, not sure I will with the baby, but maybe!
I actually really miss snow too! My mom and I wanted to go skiing this weekend but nope…no snow 🙁
The lack of snow makes me giddy, but only because I don’t like driving in it! Sorry to hear about your race, but I bet the trails will still be beautiful!
Oh yeah! It’s totally fine! 🙂 I am curious to see what the path is like under the snow 🙂
That’s a bummer! Although, I hate snow so I have to be your adversary on the whole “I wish there was more snow!” point. That’s something I haven’t said since I was in school!
A small 10K I was signed up for but ended up not doing got moved like a week before the race back in November, but other than that, I’ve never had a race change location/time. Most of the races I do are pretty well established and organized so I imagine they just don’t run into these kinds of issues.
Hee hee! That’s okay! I know I am in the minority! 🙂
Your comment of “well established” made me think of all the hoopla about the bankrupt “fun” runs last year … did you hear about that? All the themed races that took people’s money but never put on the race? Sigh. That was a bad blip in running history!
I am very conflicted. I haven’t gotten to ski yet and that makes me very sad. But the running is so much easier when the streets and sidewalks are clear.
I was thinking that same thing yesterday when I was able to do my speedwork outside, at the .5 mile loop at the park. We can’t have it all, can we? LOL
Hope your back is all better!
Oh wow, I’ve never heard of a snowshoe race before! I hope you get to do it at some point and this one is still fun as a trail race.
My friend that I did the snowshoe race with found a series of snowshoe races in the Madison, WI, area, so maybe I can do one of those! 🙂
Bummer!! Too bad your race wasn’t a day later. It’s supposed to snow on Sunday here, is it for you?
Once Chris and Evan and I (and the DOG) drove 7 hours to a triathlon in southeastern Indiana. We got all the way there, stayed in a hotel, got up the morning of, and they CANCELED THE RACE due to wet trails (it rained all night). Totally understandable of course but so frustrating!! And we had the dog so we couldn’t even do any fun family things instead. That was my one and only big race fail. LOL!
We got snow yesterday, but a dusting. Not enough for snowshoes (but enough to make the ice better to run on, yay!).
Oh man!!! What a total bummer! Do you think you will ever try that race again?
They rescheduled the race for a few weeks after but I declined to make the trip w/ Chris again! Bummer not enough snow for snowshoes! 🙁 Maybe you need to head out east.
