Helper Cat vs 2014

It just wouldn’t be the 2014 holiday season without some Helper Cat assistance!

Data just has to be in the holiday wrapping action. Sitting on paper as you try to wrap a gift, attacking ribbon and bows, jumping up on to the tissue paper on the table…

… and falling right off and getting stuck between the chair and the table. Ha! I wish I would have gotten a photo of that! He only acted embarrassed for a little bit before he came back to the table.

(Actually, he loves those springs!)

Do your pets “help” you wrap gifts? Do you have much gift wrapping done?

I am very happy that almost all of ours is done! All we have left to wrap is our gifts for one another!

And I wrapped some very special gifts this morning for Steven’s birthday!

His birthday is today, but we are both working, so we went out to dinner Saturday night to celebrate and to see a holiday show… “A Klingon Christmas Carol.”

The show was the Christmas Carol story, told with a Klingon twist – it was about honor and courage. And! It was all told in Klingon, with sub titles! The space sat around 75 people, so it had a really intimate feel. I was actually really impressed by it – I can’t imagine memorizing all of those lines in a made-up language!

As a holiday baby, I just wanted to say you did AWESOME by not wrapping the birthday gifts in Christmas paper! We appreciate that!

    • kilax says:

Hee hee! Thanks! We talked about that right away at our first birthday celebration for him, in 2002! I can see how lame that would be to get your birthday gifts in holiday wrap!

Yay for keeping Steven’s birthday separate and special! My bro was born on Christmas and was always so bummed to get lost in the fray. Our dogs will plop down and lay on tissue/wrappings but they aren’t nearly as fun as cats in the way they bat things around.

  3. Lisa and I did our wrapping for the boys last night on our bedroom floor and we had two happy terrier helpers … 🙂 Of our cats, the social one has no interest in wrapping anymore. Sad to think that of two dogs and two cats our 8-year old dog is the youngest 🙁

Cool fun for his birthday … Kingon Christmas Carol looks like a blast!

Are you saying it’s time to adopt some younger members to the family?! 😉

      • Not yet – we ended up with extra cats from my wife’s sister (don’t ask) and one died (he was ~20), we really don’t plan to get new cats, probably a dog, but it is the realization that within the next few years we are likely to say goodbye to more than one of our treasures furry family members 🙁

Ugh, isn’t that a horrible realization to have? 🙁 I try not to think about it, and hate it every time my vet calls our cat a “senior cat” (even though our vet is awesome, lol). I wannt think he’ll live forever! (furrever? ha ha)

Rex always tries to help and when I scold him enough he goes and sits juuuuuuust off the paper and watches. Cats, so weird.

  5. Christina says:

Steven did not need the subtitles, right?

Glad you had fun celebrating, and happy birthday to Stefano!

The Klingon Christmas Carol sounds awesome! I’ve never heard of that before. I wonder if there’s anything similar around here… And Perry loves to come investigate when I get the wrapping paper out. Thankfully Shelby’s not a big fan because I don’t know how I would get any wrapping done with both of them sniffing around.

I love Helper Cat!! He is too funny (and SO handsome)!! This year I didn’t do any wrapping of my own but every time I do wrap something I have 2 “helpers”!
Happy Birthday to Steven!! It sounds like y’all had a good time Saturday!!
    =^..^=

I am not sure I could handle two helpers. Data is enough trouble. Yesterday I was wrapping something and cut a big sheet of paper and where did Data go (after knocking off some ribbons on his way) – right to the middle of the paper. Sigh. Ha ha.

I love Data’s expression in the second picture!

That show sounds weirdly interesting – I never realized there was an entire made up Klingon language. Cool!

  9. Michelle says:

I have almost ALL of my wrapping done, minus the Santa gifts of course…those get special wrapping paper. My dog LOVES to lay right in the middle of the floor where I wrap to “help” me of course. LOL! Please wish Steven a Happy Birthday from us!

  10. My wrapping is done no thanks to Denali. He likes to sit on the paper. Super awesome since he’s almost 80 pounds. And, if he doesn’t do that, I find random Denali hairs stuck to the tape on gifts. Keeping it classy!

Your cat! 🙂 I think everyone needs a helper cat. Wouldn’t that make wrapping so much more fun? Our dog “helped” by UNwrapping a present under the tree. In her defense, it was homemade dog biscuits Campbell and I had made for our dog friends. I was silly to put it there!

  12. Karen says:

Pretty Kitty – Data, what an awesome name! I am cracking up – Kilngon?! That is so funny. I love your hat, you look really good in one! I don’t wear a hat so well.

    • kilax says:

Thanks! Since you see we went to a play in Klingon you can probably tell where the name came from (if I had it my way, it would be a Star Wars name…).

      Aww, thanks! 🙂

    Happy birthday, Steven!

Awwww… this post made me a little emotional. My C.C. used to do all of those things, but she’s just lost her spunk in her old age. As irritating as it used to be, I sure do miss it now. She still supervised this year–she just wasn’t as hands-on. 🙂
