Rings can be dangerous
Whether it’s kinesthesia or proprioception*… something is off with my body’s control of its limbs in space. BECAUSE I KEEP RUNNING IN TO THINGS.
Last week I hit my hand on a metal bar on the train when I was taking my seat. I wasn’t rushed or anything. There was no one in front of or behind me. These things just happen (to me).
My hand immediately hurt. Because of course, I slammed my wedding rings in to the bar, and the rings happened to be turned, so that the diamonds hit my middle finger. Yeah.
That hurt for a few days. I still have the diamond “puncture” spot on my middle finger.
A few days later, I ran my knee in to a low table. Now my knee hurts. The previous week, I cracked my bruised up toe on the top of a stair and it stung for the rest of the night (luckily that toenail is gone now MUAH HA HA, see ya later!).
Ha ha. Fun times.
I can’t figure out if I am: a. really uncoordinated, b. moving too fast and not paying attention to what I am doing, or c. losing my mind.
Okay, probably all three.
Do you ever feel like your limbs are acting on their own? Or constantly running in to stuff?
Ha. I was telling Gina about this and she brought up a story my mom told her – about the time I was walking out of a store, reading a book, and ran straight in to a GIANT mailbox. I didn’t even see it coming. Ha ha. Apparently this has been going on since my youth. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING, KIM!!!
*I’ve been wanting to write about proprioception for a long time but just doing research and reading that article, I still don’t have a great understanding of it. Maybe that is why mine doesn’t “work.”
My legs are currently a mess of bruises and scrapes but not because I’m running into things; it’s because things are running into me! Things being dogs, specifically. I don’t know what it is but no matter where I sit or stand at the dog park I always get run into by dogs and end up with bruises and scrapes on my lower legs.
Who knew the dog park was such a hazard! That sounds frustrating!
I’m always running into furniture or dropping things. I dropped a glass of red wine on white carpeting the other night … luckily we learned that hydrogen peroxide + baking soda gets out red wine. PHEW. But generally it’s a good idea if my cups have lids.
I swear I saw a wine sippy cup somewhere! 🙂
I initially freaked out when I first read the title of this post because I recently saw some episode of a medical TV show where a girl’s ring essentially cut through to the muscle of her finger :0 ! On the bright side at least you didn’t end up in the Emergency Room 🙂 Sorry to hear this happened to you though, hope your fingers are feeling better!
What the heck! How did that happen? Were her rings too tight?
Thanks! It’s almost healed now 😉
I think she got it caught in something and the metal was flexible (i.e it was a really cheap ring), so it bent and got stuck. Crazy right?
Your hand. Wow. Much bruise such pain! That looks awful painful. 🙁 is it better now?
Hahaha @ your lost toenail comment. Must feel better without it?
Yep. I’m accident prone. Knee smashed in theL turnstyle, tripping because I don’t pick up my feet enough, and those are the ones I can remember. Oh and I frequently jam my thigh into the corner of my desk at work. Always an unnecessary “pick me up” at a random time of the day. Ha ha
It is almost better! But I learned last week that throughout the day I squeeze my hand and crack my knuckles without even thinking about it… I started thinking about it. ha ha.
Yes. So much better. The other one is almost gone too. SOOOOON.
I remember your L incident! That screwed you up for a long time! I am worried my knee is getting that way – it hurt at class Monday night cause of the table run-in.
So are you always finding random bruises all over you? 🙂
Yes to all of the above, and I also trip over nothing, OFTEN. Like, just a few minutes ago in the cafeteria, nearly face planting in front of a dozen people.
Nothing hurts worse than the rings pressing into the fingers! I hope you are back to, err, normal soon.
I think certain people are just prone to this and I am definitely one of them. I run into crap ALL the time. I turn a corner too quickly and nail the corner of a wall. I hit door jambs as a I through. I’ve hit my wedding rings on so many things, I’m astonished that I haven’t lost any of the diamonds. There are even times that I have been walking and am suddenly on the groung; falling for no reason. I’m a total clutz. My sister said my name should be Grace 😉
So, I think it’s just part of who you are (sorry). Just hope the bruises and other injuries aren’t too severe. LOL!
If it makes you feel better, I walked into the wall the other day and gave myself a huge bruise on my forehead/eyebrow. Yes, a wall. I’m super graceful.
I’m actually fairly coordinated, but apparently I got all of the coordination genes in the gene pool. My sister got SCREWED. LOL She’s a damn klutz.
BTW, you and I have almost identical wedding sets!
Aww! I think we have lots of twins with our set! It was really popular awhile ago! Although, we got the band separately.
All the time. I believe it is because I’m thinking about too many things at once. Pretty ring, btw!
Thanks 🙂
ouch! I hope it is feeling better by now
I constantly run into stuff. I am probably the clumsiest person I know. I think lately I’ve been having trouble because of my allergies–went to my doc and she said my ears weren’t draining properly so I had fluid buildup in my ears. Any chance something similar is going on with you? Allergens have been really wonky this year.
You know, I don’t have allergies, but we are always talking about how bad my hearing is, so I wonder if I need to get my ears cleaned. Would that help me out? Ha!
I have huge bruises on both shins bc I keep kicking the jogging stroller!
Ouch!
Uh, I gave myself a concussion when I ran into a wall in my house, so I’ve got you beat, lol.
I think it’s my toes that act independently – I swear, if there is a little dust bunny on the rug, my toe will find it and will throb for 3 days. It’s so annoying.
I’ve noticed that my ring gets in the way and squeezes my finger if I’m carrying a heavy bag by the strap (like walking home with a heavy grocery bag). I guess mine doesn’t have prongs, so I don’t jab myself with it too often. I’m glad yours didn’t break the skin!
I have bruises all over my legs because I run into things constantly. I think it’s a combination of being in a hurry always and having a high tolerance for pain. I just bump into something, probably say, “OW! Shit!” and keep going. Then I end up with these big purple spots on my legs and no idea how they got there!
