Random Thoughts Thursday 54
- Data got his cousin Dexter a toy mouse for Christmas, and we were really cracking up over these pictures of her playing with it! She looks like she has boxing gloves on in the first one (click to see larger)!
- Speaking of boxing gloves, check out these schweet ones my parents got me! Holy cow, they are too awesome. We are actually boxing in the class I am teaching right now, but I forgot to bring them Monday night! I will remember for the Friday class.
- And speaking of cats, I have turned in to an even bigger dork (surprise surprise). I somehow ran across these “anti dust” cat earphone jack plugs on Amazon and had to get them (should I be worried about dust or more about the fact that I bought them?). They don’t exactly look like the image on the amazon page… but I am still using one. Even Data is rolling his eyes at me. Hmm, maybe a few of my cat ladies need these as well? Or maybe I should share what I have. For some reason, Steven took the one out of his phone that I put in there. Hmm, strange.
- I was really excited to try these LED Nathan PopTop gloves but I haven’t been impressed. The batteries take a long time to charge. One of the batteries came broken so I’ve asked for new ones twelve days ago (still waiting on them, but it was nice of Nathan to send some!). I went to charge them tonight and the charging port came out of the working battery. And the wires get a bit in the way when you put your hands in. I am going to keep trying though. If anything, I will just use them as gloves! Oh, but they get pretty sweaty (ha ha, that is probably just me!).
- The song Say “Something” by A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera is so pretty, but damn, it makes me feel soooo sad. But I keep listening to it, anyway. So pretty. So sad. So pretty. So sad. STUCK IN THIS CYCLE 4-EVA!
- I am really glad I met Anne for a run last night. Not only because we had a great time, but also, because it caused me to take a different train to meet her. Huh? Why does that matter? Well, I didn’t even know until Bobbi asked me about it, but the exact train that I usually take home hit a car, in the town I live in (pdf here). It’s awful to say, but I am happy I didn’t have to experience that. Did you know there was an increase in train vs car and pedestrian collisions in this area in 2013 (pdf here)? I read about so many of them, that I wasn’t surprised when that statistic came out at the end of the year. It’s so sad. Train safety, peeps!
- I was feeling really bummed at the beginning of the January that I wasn’t taking many pictures and wouldn’t have much to add to my digital photo frames in the beginning of February. Then, lo and behold, I actually started doing things and taking pictures and feeling happy again. Wait, what is this? Should I actually leave my house and be social once in awhile? Does that make me happy? It appears, yes. Ha ha.
- I was going to ask you some questions, but dang, this is long enough. I can put them somewhere else or save them for next week!

LOVE that song. so pretty. so sad.
Dexter is so CUTE!! And those boxing gloves! You must wear them with certain arm warmers, lol 🙂
I’m glad you met Anne too! I was freaking out when I saw that on the news. Yikes 🙁
THOSE ARM WARMERS ARE NEVER TO BE MENTIONED AGAIN!!!
Or should I wear them with ONE arm warmer? LOL
Thanks so much for thinking of me 🙂
The kitty/mouse picture are so cute – I love the last one most of all…he loves his little mousie!!!
How awful about that train/car crash! Glad you weren’t on it when it happened.
I was just thinking this morning: “If ONLY I had a little kitty cat to keep dust out of my earphone jack!” My life would be so much better. 😉
Sounds like the gloves are a bit of a bust. Were they pricey?
I just had a run in with a train, or should I say NO train, this morning. In Madison lately the train signals have been mysteriously flashing and gates closing during morning and afternoon rush hours in varying spots. On my way to work one of the gates was halfway down and lights were flashing, but no train. I was dumb and followed all the other dummies sneaking under the halfway closed gate. YOLO!
I’m glad you weren’t on the train either! Yikes.
I bet you WERE thinking that! The question is, do you need it mailed to you… or can it wait 2 weeks? I imagine it’s a life or death situation?
They were $30! So I think pretty pricey?
Rachel! That YOLO story scares me. LOL. But, the phantom trains must be really annoying. I hope they fix that soon!
I think I can make it…I THINK. 🙂
The train thing has been happening since this summer, so there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. It was either sneak under the gate or have hundreds of angry Madisonites stuck behind me and late for work. Sneaking under seemed safer! 🙂
Okay, but let me know if things get really dire.
Ha ha! That probably IS safer!!!!
How freaky about that train?!? I am so glad you did go run. I think my SIL went through something like that when they lived in Wheaton. No good.
I am also in that cycle with the song “Something.” And I’ve been sleep-deprived and moody lately so listening to it does me no favors. But I love it so much.
Ugh. Did it take your SIL awhile to get over it? 🙁
Ha ha ha. We must STOP listening to it!
NOTE: Do not watch the video. DON’T. I might cry at work right now.
I think it probably took her awhile. I know even crashes on the train are pretty jarring.
I watched it for the first time before I even heard the song and now every time I hear the song I see it! Sigh, it’s so sad.
Scary about the train – glad you didn’t have to experience that. When we lived in Geneva, I loved taking the train downtown with my high school friends. Can’t imagine being in one when it hits a car. Here in Belgium, there are a few cases each year of people who commit suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train and my husband has actually been on the train once when this happened, which was very sobering.
Oh gosh. Isn’t that sad? I am sorry he had to be on a train when that happened 🙁
Such a bummer on the gloves but I was looking at them, so I’m selfishly glad to hear about them. I think I’ll pass!
And wow at the train. So sad and scary…I’m glad you weren’t on it too but sad it happened. People need to take care 🙁
I love those pics of Dexter 🙂 And I love all things cat-related …
The Metra line that runs to my parents house (the Electric line) is elevated, so there are no street-level crossings – and very few car or pedestrian accidents as a result. But still the rare suicide – sadly my acquaintance-friend’s dad commited suicide that way last summer :-\
So you definitely need some of those jacks. I don’t even want to know how much dust is in your hole. Oops, I meant to write earphone jack plug!
Oh my gosh. I feel so sad for your acquaintance and their family, and the dad for feeling like that was the only answer 🙁
Those cat pictures made me smile. So cute!
Yay! Cat pics FTW!!! 😀 😀 😀
When I was heading home for Thanksgiving on Amtrak, the train headed towards Chicago hit someone a few hours before we went through the area where the accident occurred. Not fun at all, even though I wasn’t on the train that hit the person. Scary stuff!
Do earphone jacks actually need to be protected from dust? I sure hope not, for the sake of every earphone jack that’s ever been on any device I’ve ever owned…haha. But those kitties are adorable, so who cares, right? Haha 🙂
Oh gosh. I bet you could still see many remnants of the accident scene when you went through 🙁
I have to imagine that they do not need to be protected from dust… in any possible way. But there seem to be so many of these little inserts… cuteness wins!
I wondered about that with the train!!! I knew that was your train line and the timing matched up but I didn’t know if that was your exact stop or not. I was hoping you had gotten off the train before it happened. Turns out you weren’t even on it!! Phew!
I think you should return those gloves. Obviously the craftsmanship is NOT there. Stuff like that should hold up.
Remember when my phone acting up around Thanksgiving? Turns out I had something in my headphone port! Dust or dried sweat or something. Jason used compressed air to clean it out and now it works fine. But maybe I need a puppy to put in there to make sure it stays that way.
Are you sure we can’t do boxing on Saturday? I want to see the gloves in action. And I want to avoid plyometrics. I hate them. Kettlebells, though, bring it on.
Thanks for thinking of me! It would have been a somber night. Instead I goofed out with Anne then ate fajitas! And read a bit more of book 3 of In Death 😉
I think I will keep them for the mitten aspect. But I might ask Nathan what is up if the new batteries don’t work. It’s weird… who knew gloves could be so frustrating?!
NO WAY! You do need one of them! This one is pretty cute: http://www.amazon.com/Dachshund-Dust-Phone-Headphone-Dustproof/dp/B00F538928/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390510712&sr=8-1&keywords=dog+earphone+jack+plug
We can add boxing but the plyo boxes are staying buah ha ha.
Awwww, that is pretty adorable!! But, the question is, would I remember to put it back in after I remove my headphones. I use my headphones a lot…
And I will allow box jumps. That is all.
Dexter is totes adorbs.
Those boxing gloves are schweet!!
The cat earphone jack plug… I have no words except that it’s awesome!
That song. “Something.” Sigh. It’s on my playlist and I love it and it makes me so sad and then I want to listen to it more.
Glad you weren’t on the train that hit the car. Although I take issue with the wording… When I lived in San Jose and took the train to SF, people would commit suicide at least once a month. Never my train but always the one in front of mine. Yay for 3 hour waits because someone was so selfish like that… Oops I shouldn’t be so insensitive. But seriously…
Derp. Didn’t finish my thought. I always took issue with the semantics of “the train hit a car or struck a pedestrian.” The train didnt jump the tracks and attack someone… It just couldn’t stop in time….yeah. I’ve spent too many hours on delayed trains due to that kind of stuff. 🙁 and I’m not taking issue with you…. 😉
You are right – I don’t even think they worded it that way in the article, thank you for pointing it out. Most times were people driving around gates and suicides 🙁
CB thinks you need a little dog jack. He told me. Only the jack is on the bottom of your phone now, right? 🙂
Cat headphone plugs… cool idea. I wish they made plugs for the charge port on the phones. I know they do, but I’ve not seen any that are practical.
