What is the longest amount of time you’ve worked at one job – and what was/is it?
I realized on Monday that it was my five year anniversary of starting my current full time job. I work someplace where it’s not uncommon to stay for thirty or thirty-five years. I can see that happening to me.
I worked for Environmental Health & Safety for 9 semesters when I was in college. And I worked at McDonald’s from summer of 1999 to summer of 2003. And now you know why I became a vegetarian. Ha ha ha.
To this day, it still surprises me that they made me a shift manager when I turned 16 (summer of 2000). Opening the store up by myself on weekends, closing it on weeknights… Looking back at it now, I wonder if adults coming in to the store were super frustrated to have to deal with a “kid.” Not that I was bad at it. I wasn’t. I’ve always been responsible. It just seems sooooo young. I mean, look at that picture! I am wearing braces with rubber bands! Ha ha!

ha! My first thought was umm that’s why Kim is a vegetarian!! My longest time was 6 years at power plant.
I’ve got 6 and a half in, can’t imagine I’ll leave for somewhere else, unless I become wealthy somehow… 🙂
My longest job is going on 15 years now. I’ve been working a government job since my first full year of college after high school. I manage the computer systems here. Kind of fun most days!
LOL no wonder! I worked at Hardees/Great Steak Escape in high school. Then, was in the Air Force for 20 years, and now wandering aimlessly (on my second job in 2 1/2 years) trying to find my ‘place.’ 🙂
I’ve been at my current job for 9 years! Hard to believe. I’m sure I’ll be there for a really long time too. I also had a paper route from about 1997-2000. Worked at Sears from 2000-2003. I also had an on campus job, worked at a ski resort in the winters, and as a lifeguard in the summers. I was either working or going to class while I was in college!
Heh, isn’t that who is always in charge at fast food places though? 🙂 I was an assistant manager at my high school fast food job! Fine for all the other high school kids answering to me, not so much for the 40-somethings who wanted that job. AWKWARD! I was also put in charge of like 5 people when I had only been in my current job for a year. They were all older and had more seniority, so yeah, it was weird.
But to answer your actual question, this job is my longest. At 9 and a half years. Sigh…
Many of my friends worked at McDonald’s in high school and none of them got to be shift manager! Apparently I’ve found more responsible friends 🙂
I worked at my first job out of college from 2002 – 2008 which is my longest. But I just passed the 5.5 year mark at my current job so I’ve almost tied that!
I was with my last company for 6 years and 9 months. Pretty sure I spent a combined 3-4 years hunting for a new job.
I worked at Mc D’s too! But I was not a manager. I just worked there because I could walk to work. And yeah not surprised about the vegetarian thing. 🙂
Hmm i think my longest job is my current one. 3 year (unofficial) in march and officially official 3 years in July. It’s crazy to think people like my dad worked for the same

I’ve been in my current department at my organization for 18 years. My preference would be to stay here as a lifer!
I’ve been at my job with you-know-who for 9 years and 2 months, and I would walk out tomorrow if I could find anything with a comparable salary!
I’m going on my 9th year at my current job, which is my longest so far. Here’s my history:
5 years at Happy Joe’s Pizza in high-school/college
4 years at Applebee’s in college/first few years of teaching
3 years at my 1st teaching job
1 year at my 2nd teaching job
9 years at my current teaching job
This is my 9th year at this particular school – such a surprise since I planned on being in the Southern CA area for a few years just for the experience. Well, here we still are!
The longest I’ve been at a job is the job I’m at now. I’m in my 6th year teaching at the school I’m at.
I worked at the library throughout high school, so 4 years is my longest. Followed by 3+ at Equinox, 2+ at a spa, and now I am just passed a year at my current job. There are a lot who have been with the company for 10+ years.
Going on 5 years as a 1st grade bilingual teacher. Prior to that I worked for a nonprofit association for about 12 years but had different positions/responsibilities.
The company I am currently at is the longest I’ve been on the job. 10 years this past May. So 10.5 years at this point. The company is called Data2Logistics. My title is Network Admin, with my main areas of responsibility as Exchange Server and VMware. I’ve been a network/system admin for 28 years now.
