Notes:

  • After rolling my ankle so badly last Sunday, I thought for sure I would have some issues with it this week. Nope! It did swell, and feel a bit tender to the touch the day I hurt it, but other than feeling funky if I twist it a wrong way… it feels fine. No pain AT ALL. Which is good because I was off work all week and would have lost my mind if I couldn’t work out.
  • And workout I did. Lots of runs. Lots of runs with friends! And! I have a new weekly high mileage – 66.1 (too bad I don’t count Sunday – Saturday, then it would be 78.6!). For my own records, I am going to note that is my third 60 mile week of the year (#1 was 60, #2 was 61.2).
  • I was going to take a rest day on Sunday, but I had some unplanned free solo time in the afternoon and the weather was so nice and Jen2 said she could run… so, yeah. Maybe I will take a rest day when the government shutdown is over.
  • I did rest from running on Monday, which turned out to be a good thing. I had planned to run before class, but the class ended up being so intense… I bonked it. Like, ran out of electrolytes. Got dizzy. Light-headed. In my own class. Sigh. Luckily it was during the last set. I had a GU and immediately felt better.
  • I spectated the Milwaukee Marathon this morning with Bobbi and Chris. We knew a lot of people running it, and it’s just fun to get out there and support our fellow runners! We handed out twizzlers and pretzels. We got some really funny responses! Well, lots of thank yous (which was nice), but then “I love you!,” “You’re my hero!,” “You’re a life saver!” Ha ha. One guy said “I thought you were handing out condoms.” Um… sorry to disappoint? I said back, “What do you expect to do in the next 6 miles?”
  • Lots of fun plans for next week! I have two races on Saturday, I get to run a 10 miler with my brother-in-law, Andrew, on Sunday, and depending on how long the government shutdown lasts, I may have another new weekly high mileage!

Photo Penalty

By , October 2, 2013 8:11 am

I screwed around so much during my run this morning – stopping to take photos and text people – I feel there should be some sort of penalty, in the form of time or distance.

Alright, Kim, we see your watch says you ran 6 miles, but it looks like you stopped take 16 photos and you send 8 texts. That is a deduction of .1 miles per photo/text, or an addition of 1 minute, each.

Ha ha.

For what it’s worth, I only left the house to run when I did because the fog was so pretty, and I wanted to take photos. So… can I have less of a deduction?!

Do you ever stop to take photos when you are working out? Why or why not?

If you do stop, do your stop your watch?

If I see something interesting (to me), I am going to stop to take a photo, even if I am with other people (I will ask if it’s okay). Capturing moments on “film,” even with a smartphone camera, is important to me. More important than “training.”

Okay, okay, if I was really training for some reason I might stop less. Maybe.

I used to be a lot worse. Before I had a smartphone, I actually carried my camera with me on my fuel belt. What. A. Dork!

Good news/bad news

By , October 1, 2013 7:40 am

What’s your good news/bad news? Or, bad news/good news? (ha ha, I changed the order on some below)

Good news: My ankle was less swollen (looked less butt-like, see picture below) today and I was able to run with no issue!
Bad news: I beat myself up yesterday for not being able to run and break my monthly PDR (Personal Distance Record), as I thought I would. I will try again in October… I only have to run 7.42 miles a day… nbd, right?!

Bad news: Government shutdown.
Good news: … I am going back to bed after I hit publish? I can do a double today?

Good news: My snister and her fiancé are joining us for Halloween!
Bad news: No costume plans. Meh, this isn’t bad news. My snister is über creative. She’ll come up with something!

Good news: I signed myself and my dad up for a 5K on 10/26! His goal is to run sub 30:00.
Bad news: I am not sure if I should pace my dad or go for an age group award. Such a bad daughter, right? Ha ha. I told him he can decide if he wants a pacer. Would you run with family or “race” at a small race with a chance of placing?

Bad news: My mood is only slighter better this week than last.
Good news: My friends are still putting up with me! Actually, they are being very supportive, as is Steven. And Data wants a mention too.

Bad news: It’s supposed to be in the 80s today. Hi. It’s October 1st.
Good news: Meh! I don’t care! I already ran. Ha ha.

All good news: Working out of the new FakeMeat.com warehouse is fabulous.
A wish: That we lived one town over, in Grayslake – close to the warehouse, Essential Fitness and the train station.
