Feeling appreciated

By , October 7, 2013 9:22 pm

As awesome as it is to have free time to do whatever I want during the day because the government is shutdown and I can’t work… I am feeling a very heavy underlying anxiety and a general worthless/uselessness, despite still teaching, and helping Steven at the warehouse. So, this was welcome.

I wasn’t going to blog about spectating at the Milwaukee Marathon. I did it last year, and I just blogged about a strange spectating experience (that made me seem completely emotional).

We did the same thing as last year – hung out just before mile 20 and handed out twizzlers and pretzels (and new to this year – soda!). Chris and I brought the snacks, Bobbi made a schweet sign, and we were set:

We knew a lot of people from our running club doing the race, and everyone did AMAZING! It was so awesome to be able to cheer them on and hand them their “support” bags (with pretzels and twizzlers, along with specific things they had asked for). They all thanked us for being there, and the runners who didn’t know us did as well

It feels so good to go out there and be in the supportive role, for my fellow runners. Beside it being important to “pay it back,” I also think it makes you feel good. I mean, being supportive is the #1 goal, but it’s nice to feel good from it too, right?

So, when Bobbi shared this post with me from the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon Facebook page, I felt especially appreciated.

And I needed that, this week. Thank you, George!

What has made you feel appreciated lately? Share something good with me!

I don’t have a story about feeling appreciated but I want to share how much I appreciate you. I was just thinking today that sometimes someone new enters your life just exactly when you need them. And that is you, to me! You are so patient, supportive and, most of all, a total blast to hang out with. I’ve only known you a short time, but you are too freaking awesome! If you ever feel under-appreciated, you let me know!!! Love the Twizzler post that George left you though. That might have made me a bit weepy.

You are such a sweetie! Thank you for saying that! I feel like the stars aligned that we got to meet! Our personalities mesh so well! 🙂 And bonus that we live so close!!!!! What a blessing! 😀 😀 😀

Oh wow. A Twizzler at mile 20 sounds awesome! I will have to remember that for my upcoming race. Way to go in saving George’s life.

Awwww, you are like the Good Twizzler Fairy! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you are affected by the *!@!$%&! shutdown. I have a lot of colleagues at national libraries who are affected, too. Too bad the shutdown couldn’t have been while you were studying for your ACE exam!

Ha ha ha! I like that!

LOL! Yeah, that would have helped, with study time! I should use this time to brush up – I have to keep studying that stuff, to keep it fresh!

Woo hoo! So nice that George took the time to post that – doesn’t that make up for all those crabby people in that other race?

  6. abbi says:

Aww, that’s awesome! I’ve never thought of a Twizzler for a race but sounds like you made some days out there!

  7. I can only imagine how awesome those Twizzlers tasted at mile 20. I could eat one now and all I’ve done is make toast and sit on the couch.

I hope you know that I appreciate you and all of your support. You are a kind, generous person and someone I look up to. Literally. Because I’m 5-foot-3.

      Ha ha ha! Thanks 😉

Licorice sounds good ALL THE TIME. Except when I had a little licorice/alcohol incident and college and couldn’t eat it for a few years.

great job – I was going to type sometimes it’s the simple things that bring the most joy . . . but I really think that ALL the time it’s the simple things that bring the most joy!

  9. J says:

Sometimes its just about the little things. That was such a nice compliment and although I am sure you didn’t do it to get compliments it is just really nice for someone to go out of their way to say that about you! You are appreciated! You are a great person!

    • kilax says:

Exactly! They don’t have to say that and that is not the point, but that they did… 😀 😀 😀

      Aww, thanks 🙂

You been early morning running?! 🙂

that is so awesome! We are debating on spectating the Naperville marathon, are you going to be there??

  13. Maggie says:

Awww, that’s such a sweet comment!!! Note to self: Bring Twizzlers with me on Sunday.

  14. Erin says:

I love that George took the time to write that. I tell you, the Milwaukee Marathon runners and spectators are the best 🙂 Also, I love that you guys hang out in the same spot every year. It’s like your personal cheering section.

  15. Michele says:

Twizzlers!!!! That was my “go-to” during my first marathon training!!!

And a SCHWEETTTTT shout out on the FB!!!!!!

  16. Mica says:

It made me happy to read that so many runners were appreciative of spectators (and, I assume, volunteers)! I also love that you get so into spectating and cheering on runners. I bet you really made some people’s day and gave a much-needed boost to people who were flagging. It’s too bad there’s not a way for runners to reach out post-race to volunteers and spectators who made a difference in their experience!!
