Notes:

  • It’s dark out in the early am now (duh!) and my headlamp seemed a bit dim, so you know, instead of changing the batteries, I ordered a new one. HOLY COW. My new headlamp has about a zillion settings – high beam, low beam, red lights, strobes. Whoa. Fancy schmancy. And most importantly – it’s brighter than… something very bright.
  • I was lucky enough to get to run with my dad again this week! We did a run/walk for the first part of my long run then he accompanied me on his bike. Have you ever had a run that feels like you are doing an easy pace for you, then looked at your watch and thought “no wonder this feels so easy, I am going slower than I normally do”? That was this Sunday. The humidity was super high, but I felt decent, and like I was hitting a lower pace. Um, no. I slowed down. Ha ha ha.
  • It was Steven’s idea to go on a canoeing trip for our wedding anniversary and I am so happy he suggested it! We had a lot of fun canoeing together. And! I didn’t tip the canoe!
  • Hopefully I will have more time on my bike next week… <— broken record.

  1. How fun that you went canoeing for your anniversary! That’s so creative. And I find that because biking takes so much more thought and planning (where to ride, all the things to bring, all the things to wear) that it’s the thing that I feel like I have to carve the largest chunk of time out for. Having my trainer has saved me some of the time, but it is less enjoyable than riding outside for sure. Awesome job getting in all these running miles. I find all your back to back mid and long distance runs to be so impressive. Nice job!

Yes! Biking does take a bit more planning. It’s not as much “pick up and go” as running, especially when it comes to planning safe routes! I do have a trainer… ugh. Did they tell you to get a separate back tire for when you are using the trainer?

      Aww, thanks! 😀

  2. J says:

I need a new headlamp too – I am still boycotting wearing mine for my AM runs but I know I will need to start wearing it soon 🙁

  3. Michele says:

Happy Anniversary!!! I went canoeing once. Just once was all it took for me to decide it wasn’t for me!!

I got a pretty schweet light for my bike, a front one and back one. I haven’t had to use it yet, but I may have to on Wednesday!! Woo Hoo!! I can’t wait! <—- to ride my bike, the clinical, not so much…

I may need to invest in a running light, I see early morning runs in my future. Maybe I can strap my bike one to my head?

And…GET ON THE BIKE!!!!!!!!! You can't let her (him?) sit there and not get to play!

    • kilax says:

Hmm, how do the bike lights attach? I can totally see you strapping it to your head – you are such a DIYer 😉 And really, nothing says it HAS to be on your head. That is just the most convenient! I sometimes run and carry a light!

  4. Happy anniversary! You know you really love each other when you both come back from the canoe trip 😉

I had the same “slow” thing on my long run two weeks ago. I felt awesome (until I didn’t [due to dehydration]) but only because I was going at an appropriate long run pace.

    • kilax says:

      Thanks!

This was way slower than an appropriate long run pace! It was like… something should be not right for me to be going that pace. LOL. Are you all recovered from HTC?

  5. Linda says:

    Happy Anniversary!

  6. Michelle says:

    Happy anniversary!!

  7. CourtneyInControl says:

Super proud of your dad for continuing to run!!! Fantastic!!!! Your canoeing trip sounds like fun, I can’t wait to hear more about it!! Happy (belated) Anniversary!! I can’t believe it’s already been 6 years!!!
    =^..^=

  8. Kristina says:

How cool that you went canoeing for your anniversary! We’ve definitely gotten more into giving each other “experiences” rather than things for our anniversary.

  9. Declan says:

    Happy Anniversary!!
Can your headlamp change to colors other than red?? Maybe make it put out a bat signal or the rebel alliance signal!?!

I’ve had sections of runs where my GPS suddenly has me going a fair bit slower than I thought, but I pretend it is wrong and blame it in bad signal 🙂

On easy run days, I try focus on the easy and fun, rather than the run. I get hung on on pace and get feel bad about it if I dwell on it

  10. Great job this week! And canoeing sounds like such a fun anniversary activity! Congrats to you guys!

  11. Kandi says:

    Happy Anniversary!! How fun!
We went kayaking yesterday and it was my idea to go to pretty much the farthest point in the lake away from our house. On the way back, Joey really, really, really wanted to be home and I was so proud of myself for mostly keeping up with him! My arms are still sore.

  12. Xaarlin says:

Happy anniversary! Canoeing seems like a wonderfully peaceful way to spend the day 🙂

And I love that you got to run with your dad again 🙂 I miss being able to do that with mine.

  13. Erin says:

Busy week! You got in a nice mix of things, though, even if you did only get out on your bike once 🙂

  14. Marcia says:

Happy Anniversary! WHat a fun way to celebrate! My Ragnar headlamp has all those options but it’s so cheapy it barely works. The morning darkness is the saddest part of fall IMO.
