Not a blonde
Quite a few people have asked me if I’ve gone blonde after seeing this picture:
Ha! No! It’s just the lighting. My response to all the askers has been “I learned to not dye my hair in high school.”
Okay, really – freshman year of college. Gah. It took an entire year for my natural hair color to grow out. My aunt didn’t believe it was my real hair color at Christmas 2003.
Would you guys believe that I had some rebellious high school years*?! Yeah, sorry, Dad**. One particular shenanigan involved bleaching my hair to dye it orange… only the store didn’t have orange, so we went with yellow. Only… we didn’t have enough bleach so only part of my hair was dyed. And I think I did it the day before Easter or something stupid.
Hey! Good thing I worked out my rebellious side then…
Back to the point.
No dyed hair here! Just my natural brown!
Do you dye your hair?
Do you want to hear my crazy rebellious stories?!
Yeah. That ain’t happening!
*But was still a class valedictorian! Ha.
**I’d apologize to Mom but she doesn’t read this. Plus, her Mother’s Day card specifically apologized for all past (and I added “future”) bad behavior.
No I don’t dye my hair. I prefer my natural color! ๐ Keep your rebel spirit alive and do the orange dye job again, but do it right this time! ๐
if you go back to blonde I’ll grow my eyebrows back out like in that picture.. vomtown!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
You could pull any color off!
Thanks ๐
I used to add low lights or dye my hair darker but now I figure go natural until the grey comes in and then it will be time to dye. ๐
I wonder when the gray will come for me! I should ask my mom when she started getting grays. I know that her and my grandma both dye their hair.
I think we all have a little rebellious streak when we’re teenagers. If all you did was dye your hair, your parents shouldn’t be too upset with that, I’d hope. ๐ I did get a few very subtle highlights put in my hair last October before getting engagement photos taken, but other than that, my hair color is au naturel. To be honest, I’m too lazy to keep up with dyeing my hair, so I don’t color it. ๐
Ha! No. I gave them a few other good things to be upset about. Heh heh heh.
Did the highlights fade out naturally?
hahahahaha This reminds me of my HS years… lets see it all started with some “sun in” and then i took it too far. During my junior year while it was blondish-orange I dyed most of it green. Because I love green. duh. and its green in my moms 2nd wedding photos. I started dyeing it blonder and after a breakup my senior year I went platinum. belch. Then I dyed it red, brown, black (not all at once) in college for a while and bleach blonde as recently as 5 years ago… This january I got it dyed professionally for the first time. EVER. I get it dark brown which is a nicer color but similar to my natural hair. but I dye my hair to cover up the grays. DAFUQ! Getting old sucks.
Blonde hair could look good on you- especially with that runners tan. and YES I want to hear ALL the storiez! hehe
Those storiez will have to be told IN PERSON ๐
I want to see a collage of all your hair dye days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just be glad you missed the big perm phase of the 80s. All my friends (and I) tried getting a perm at least once. Poodle heads!
Ha!
I’ve dyed my hair for years and years. Never too crazy, just a little richer than my own color to cover eveidence of my age. And to toss a couple bright red highlights in when I’m feeling less than my age ๐
Always black hair! Went to private schools growing up and that wouldn’t end well. Biggest change with my hair is that I keep getting shorter haircuts! (I’m due for one now!)
Only tell the rebellious stories that end with – and that’s how the police didn’t find out.
Um, you’re not really supposed to ask if someone dyes their hair. But, secret’s out, I do. For the same reason Bobbi does (except that my “aging” started when I was 16! Not cool, Irish heritage!).
But I started out like Xaarlin, with way too much Sun-In. I was nearly blonde in 8th grade because of that stuff! My hair was various shades of red/black/purple in college, and was nearly black until about 5 years ago because I was doing it myself and totally overprocessing (key tip: never use anything darker than a “medium” brown). I spent like 8 hours over 2 Saturdays getting it professionally fixed so it’d be brown again. I still color it myself, but get highlights and the occasional touch-up done professionally. Thankfully my super awesome stylist was nice enough to tell me how to dye my own hair without turning it black, even though obviously, that’s less business for her.
Ooo! Sorry I asked! Hee hee.
I didn’t know that! So if you have black hair, you should still use a medium brown? I wonder what my mom uses – she has black hair.
Hahaha, and now we all know your mom dyes her hair.
If you *want* it to be black, then dark brown or black is fine. But when black isn’t your goal, which it isn’t for me, definitely go lighter.
I had already written that, and outed my Grandma, too, in a previous comment response! Ha!
I assume a majority of ladies do at some point. Though I do have a great aunt who is in her late 80’s and still has jet black hair, totally naturally (obviously we’re only related by marriage, because NO ONE in my family has those genes!)
Hehe, I love this post!
I had rebellious side too in college- I dyed my hair just about once a month from red to blonde to brunette. I always ended up going back blonde though- my natural color is best!
I had what I refer to as “the blond incident” in college. Having your friend who has WAY MORE HAIR than you do your highlights is not a good plan. I also had fire engine red highlights in high school that I loved but that caused my mom to scream out loud when she saw me. I even had those professionally done :-). I miss them, actually. Right now I’m all natural.
The first time I dyed my hair (sophomore year of college)I accidentally dyed it black! The box said medium brown… not so much.
I have a lot of gray hair so I have dyed it from time to time but the last time was a week before my wedding (3/3/12). Most of the color has grown out but not quite… I think I’m going to use a non-permanent dye on my hair in August for my friend’s wedding because the tips of my hair was yellow/orange and the top is brown/gray. I think the updo I’m planning will look weird if I don’t dye it.
