The friends who… [part 2]
[part 1 here]
This weekend, I was reminded of how happy I am to have friends who…
- … encourage me to give back. I’ve wanted to volunteer at a race this year but have been in my own little “must not make plans! must study!” bubble and I hadn’t planned it out. Chris asked me if I wanted to volunteer at the North Shore Half Marathon and 5K with her this Sunday. I am very happy we did.
- … understand the importance of a nap. Ha! After said volunteering, Chris and I took a power nap at her casa until we went to the next event (bullet point below). I had to get up at 3:30 am to volunteer. My Sunday was kind of a blur. I needed that nap! Ha ha!
- … like me enough to invite me to their baby shower. I had never been to one! Can you believe it?! We were asked to fill out little cards with advice for the mom-to-be. I used my infinite cat-mom wisdom to come up with something.*
- … come support me at an event for something that is not their #1 interest. Xaarlin, Emily and Kelsey all came to visit me while I was hanging out at the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade on Saturday (Steven is the head of operations for the event). I was there for a long time, so it was great to have some friends to hang with… and to meet Hampton (the dog) for the first time!!! 🙂
Yes, that is me dressed as a cat.
- ... want to run lots of miles with me. This means a lot, as I basically use my running partner as my therapist during long runs. Sorry, Anne.
- … tell me when I need to get over something. Seriously. This is important. I mentioned it on the first version of this list. If anyone needs to get called out on their sh*t, it’s probably me, so I am grateful when my friends do.**
This list could go on and on. But those are just the reminders from this weekend!
I’ve asked you before what is on your list… so you can tell me again, OR tell me which friends you rely on to call you out on your crap!***
*Just kidding. I wrote something about taking lots of embarrassing pictures of the kid as a baby to share with their friends when they get to high school.
**But not my husband. Ha!
***Hmm, have I asked that before?!
Ahh! I wish I had known about the Veggie Pride! I SO would have been there! Can we please hang soon?
Yes! We need to! Are you available for lunch in the loop during the week when you are done with school? 🙂 (I only ask because my weekends are NUTSO for awhile!)
…enjoy life, and smile as much as possible. This is my reminder from you, Kimbot!! While I am sure that we scared a ton of people with our cowbell and robot dance routines on the course, we definitely were a reminder to each of them to smile and ‘enjoy the rainy run.’ 😀
Aww! You are too sweet! Thank you 🙂 Ha ha ha. I don’t think we scared anyone! I think we DID wake up everyone in those houses though. Muah ha ha hahahahha.
Just a slightly packed weekend? I love volunteering at races. I don’t know that I could have rocked the cat costume for very long! 🙂
Ugh, it was. I didn’t get any studying done. And the next few weekends are crazy too. I gotta figure this out! 🙂
Hee hee. I was only in it for awhile. Someone else was actually wearing it… and I just wanted to try it on! 🙂
whooohooo, go veggie pride!!! 🙂
Pam will call me out on my crap. Every single time. She’ll tell me when to shut up and get over it, or tell me that I’m right on and maybe I should feel the way I do. I do the same things for her.
BTW, you’re such a cute cat! (Of course I secretly thought you was a chipmunk…lol)
You are not the only one who thought it was a chipmunk!
You and John call me out on my crap. But I take it lots better coming from you 🙂
Aw, those race bib cookies are so cute!
And I think you mean friends who beg you to run lots of miles with them! And wasn’t it nice of me to slow us down just so you could vent a little more? 🙂 You’re welcome.
But seriously, I so appreciate you spending your morning with me! I always have so much fun on our runs, and I really don’t think I could push myself to do that kind of distance alone.
I really enjoy our long runs too! 🙂 And you could do the distance… it just wouldn’t be as fun! 😉
Well no, it wouldn’t, and I’d look pretty crazy talking to myself that much 🙂
Again, it was so, so, so good to see you this past weekend! The cat photo is CLASSIC. Can’t wait to hear more about the North Shore Half yesterday, too!
My greatest friends are the ones that support me unconditionally, no matter what challenges, failures, or issues that I am going through. =)
(On a side note – it looks like the links you have on here to Kelsey’s blog and to my blog are flip-flopped!?!)
Ahh, thanks! I fixed the link mix-up!
It was so nice to catch up. Yet! I feel that we need more time. Will that ever NOT be the case? Hee hee. Probably not 😉
Everyone needs friends like that! 🙂
I’m a kitty cat and I like to dance dance dance! SO happy I got to see you-especially dressed up as a cat!
That is going to be stuck in my head all day! I should play it at strength class tonight. Ha ha ha ha.
I am so happy I got to see you too. It was far too long! I don’t think we ever made up the lunch date I stood you up for?!
I’m still warming up to the idea of naps. I end up caving into one every couple months now, which is a lot for me (at least since our toddler was a newborn).
And my wife wastes no time calling me out on my crap!
I don’t really have any friends I run with (probably due to the time of day I run), but I rely on normal faces to wave to me to make me feel part of the run path that day!
I love taking naps, but they almost always make me feel more tired. Sigh.
I have a hard time convincing people to meet me super early to run, too. A few will, though!
It was quite a lift to see you and Chris course marshaling the 5K…reminds me that I want to volunteer at one myself!
You are one sexy cat, mah lady! It would have been better, though, to wear to the baby shower.
I am glad I have friends … who will always be on my side, even if I’m acting 150 percent irrational.
Aww I love this post! And those baby shower cookies look so cute…almost wouldn’t want to eat it. Almost 🙂
Love love love!!
You are surrounded by some wonderful people 🙂 my bestest friends in the whole wide world (all 3 of them haha) are people who are real, don’t sugar coat things, can have interesting thought provoking conversations with, are there for me (and me for them) when I need it, are supportive, and will call me out when I’m too cray cray. We all help each other grow and be better versions of ourselves.
And you called CB Hampton! 🙂 hehe
It feels so weird to call him Hampton! Ahh!!! I am torn!
It is SUCH a blessing to have friends like that. I’ve only had true friends like that in the last several years, and it’s made such a difference in my life! 🙂
Okay, now I feel like a loser friend for not showing up to see you in the cat costume!
So, what did you think of your first baby shower?
And, yes, naps are amazing. That’s awesome that both you and Chris crashed after your epic volunteering 🙂
I thought you had plans on Saturday! No worries! 🙂
The baby shower was fun and very well done. I must tell you, it was at a Mexican restaurant. Best. Idea. Ever.
The friends that call me out on my crap are the best ones. You know its a true friendship when they aren’t afraid to be honest with you.
Dammit I can’t believe I didn’t see you! I was scoping course marshalls like crazy. I must have been sleep running at that point. Ha! I’m sure you were awesome!
I was scanning for you! I can’t believe I missed you too! I was actually worried you weren’t there, when I didn’t see you! LOL!
You are blessed to have great friends! I love the baby shower cookies–so creative!!
I love how you are so involved in so many things!
Aw, what a great post! You seem like you’re in SUCH a good place right now and every post makes me so happy for you! 🙂
This is a great post. Friends are definitely one of the best parts of our life. And the good ones, the ones you can totally be yourself around, no matter what…well those are the best 🙂
I love friends who let me crash at their house multiple times in a three-month period. And who chat back and forth with me all daaaaay. 🙂
And ones who dress up in a cat costume. AHAHA. What did Data think?
And the friends who hit you in the arm with the wiimote?
Ha ha ha. If only Data could see that! I bet he would be scared!
I’ve clearly fallen behind on my blog reading. But anyway, this is a great post!! And I love the cat costume.
