Running (Safely) in the Dark Giveaway
I loved Eat: Watch: Run‘s Guess My Finish Time Giveaway… so I am going to copy it. Thank you, Paula!
The week is finally here… ZOOMA Great Lakes Week!
You can still register until 8:00 pm cst tonight, online (use code GLAMB8 for $10 off the half and $5 off the full). You can also register in person at packet pickup on Thursday and Friday night! A zillion and one bloggers are running this race, and partying after, so let me know if you sign up, or are coming to cheer… or just want to crash the party.
On to business…
I am running the half marathon at ZOOMA. I have no goals for the race, other than to have fun! (Okay, and finish and get my Satya Jewelry necklace!). So, let’s have a little fun with my lack of a time goal… per Paula’s brilliant idea, I am having a contest for you to guess my half marathon finish time!
So… the first person to guess closest to my finish time without going over, wins! And! To make it even more fun, I am going to have two winners – a winner and a runner-up. So… you can go all “The Price is Right on People” if you want to guess one second below their time… or one second above. Who knows! Should be interesting!
You probably want to know a little bit about how fast I’ve been running lately? Let me tell you:
- I feel speedy if I get my pace under 10:00mm these days.
- You can see all of my race performances here.
- I’ve run three half marathons this year – one at 2:06:11 in May to pace my BiL, one for fun by myself at 2:08:17 in June, and one for fun with Emily at 2:22:52 in September. I’ve gotten slower! And fatter!
- I am no where NEAR ideal racing weight.
- My half PR is 1:54:06 from April 2011. I will not be trying to PR.
- My half PW is 3:16:17 from June 2010 when I had three stress fractures and walked the whole thing. I will not be walking the whole thing.
- The ZOOMA course is hilly.
- I may or may not run more before and/or after the race.
- I run best in the 30s (temps, not age).
Yikes! Seems a bit tricky after all that! I hope you will still play along?

It’s getting dark out, yo! And runners (all exercisers) need to be safe out there! So, this giveaway is Running (Safely) in the Dark themed.
The winner and the runner-up will each get to choose ONE of the following: 1. Black Diamond Cosmo Headlamp (available in multiple styles), 2. Relax Reflect Skull Cap (available in multiple styles), 3. Nathan Streak Reflective Vest with one Reflective Band. These are funded by… my wallet.
Running (Safely) in the Dark Giveaway Rules
- Two readers will win their choice of item 1, 2 or 3. The first place winner is the first person to guess closest to my finish time at the ZOOMA half marathon without going over. The second-place winner is the second closest guess without going over. If someone else guesses the same as you, the guess that was made first will win. If multiple people guess my exact time, the first two guessers will win.
- Required to enter the giveaway: tell me your guess for my finish time at the ZOOMA half marathon on Saturday.
- Want a second guess? Share this giveaway on Facebook, let me know that you did, and guess a second time.
- This giveaway is open until 5:00 PM CST on Friday, October 19. I will announce the winner on Sunday, October 21 (if not sooner).
- This giveaway is open to US residents.

Hmmm Ok. I feel like on any given day, a run can turn out SO good, or be a disappointment.

Since this is for fun and a hilly course, I’m going to guess 2:15.
I am so excited for this weekend! And, I LOVE this idea. I am going to go with my first half-marathon time ever – 2:19, minus 5 – 2:14:01.
I am deathly afraid of the hills, btw!

I’m going to guess faster than our 50k, so somewhere under 7:14. hahaha 🙂 Really though, because I want that reflective stuff, I think you’ll pull off a 2:09:17. So try to get somewhere around that, ok?

I have a hat and a headlamp but I HATE my reflective vest so if I win I want this one. Which means I will tie you to me so I can get the finish time I predict. Which is 2:24:05.
