Run vs Ride Preferences
Since I did my long run yesterday, I decided to do a 24 mile “recovery” bike ride today.
My goodness. I have never seen so many runners on this trail. Every time I passed one I wanted to get off my bike and run. I wanted to shout “I’m a runner too! I am only riding my bike because I ran 26 miles yesterday! I will probably run tomorrow! Be my friend!”
I really love riding my bike. But I think I love running even more.
What’s your sport of choice? To do, or to watch?
Since I have been biking a bit more, I’ve thought of some running versus riding preferences. Tell me yours!

I love both sports but have to admit running is my first love
I don’t really bike so this is tough. I used to ride more when I was young and would just go with my parents. I agree with the terrain – I love uphill running (sort of) but downhill biking. I also love downhill skiing!
It’s funny – I enjoy running more overall, but I’m a stronger cyclist and a weaker runner. Sarah Cowan (GRC) and I have a saying – “I’m really good at running slow.”
I was thinking about adding speed as one of my factors here but it didn’t make sense. But I can almost bike as fast as an elite runner! I am a slow runner and mediocre cyclist!
Oh my God, I can’t believe you ran 26 miles and then did a 24 mile bike ride the next day. You are super human, and truly awesome. Please do not read my latest post.
LOL. But I am not busy with a kid, like you! I am sure your post is fine. I look forward to reading it 🙂
I really, really want to make you a shirt that says: “I’m a runner too! I am only riding my bike because I ran 26 miles yesterday! I will probably run tomorrow! Be my friend!”
And while we are at it, let’s make the Run Slow Have Fun shirt for moi.
Ha ha ha. I was looking for bike jerseys that said “I am a runner too” but found nothing! BOO!
Yes, let’s make those shirts for US!
Nice job getting in the 26 miler and following it up with a 24-mile ride! Fun breakdown of the two activities.
I’m such a slow cyclist and not as slow a runner, so in terms of ego, I really prefer running. But I’m beginning to really enjoy cycling on its own, not because it’s one of the skills that I *have* to do for tris. I actually do like the long climbs that I can do on the bike – multiple miles, 1-3 thousand feet gain – and the descents used to scare me, but I’ve finally started to enjoy them!
Watching, though, I’ll take cycling any day! In fact, I’m feeling pretty depressed because I probably won’t watch cycling again until next summer.
You have to tell me how you manage those hills. I cannot do the little baby hills on my mountain bike!
I call myself a runner, but when I really think about it, I probably like biking more!

It sounds like we would make good run or bike companions with our preferences!!! When are you traveling to Chicago? 😛
No bike for me. Too chicken 🙂
NEED me a hydration vest, pronto!
Le sigh, Bobbi. Le sigh. You need to get on a bike. I fell off mine Friday and again yesterday and I still go out 🙂
One of the things I love about cycling is that I can go further faster and not feel as tired as I do when I run. But what I love about running is that it doesn’t require as much equipment.
And I’d like to add that I can drink a beer mid-ride while drinking a beer mid-run is a terrible idea!
