Training Week 141

By , July 1, 2012 10:31 am

Highlight of the Week: Running with my dad accompanying me on his bike (twice!)! The miles flew by since we (okay, mostly me) were talking. It’s rare I get my dad all to myself so I enjoy our run/rides!

Sunday | July 1, 2012: 8 m run (w/Dad on his bike)
Loc: Guttenberg, IA, Temp: 70°/81°, Time: 1:26:36, Pace: 10:49 avg, Difficulty: easy

Lessons learned:

  • Just because it’s cooler, it doesn’t mean you will run faster… if you haven’t run in three days (re: Monday).
  • Eat enough before the run. Steven and I are trying to eat less, but I did not eat enough Friday morning to have a successful lunchtime run.
  • Putting the alarm clock in an adjacent room helped me get out of bed for my Saturday am run (on only five+ hours of sleep).
  • Use lots and lots and lots of Vaseline for humid runs. Ouch. I chafed so bad on Saturday (despite wearing Vaseline and Body Glide) that applying spray-on sunscreen later in the day made me feel like I was burning.

so cool that you got to run with your dad! I always love time I can snag my dad all to myself 🙂

off to find more chi half giveaways…wish I was giving an entry away too – this one is one of the few city races that I’d like to do (along with the soldier field 10).

You’ve got some awesome mileage going on! Nice that you were able to run with your dad – I’m more of a solo runner, but I’ve discovered the pleasure of running with people (on occasion – ha!).

That looks like a rockin’ week! Way to go!! And very fun that you and your dad were able to hang out too. My favorite run ever was when I did my long 16 miler, and my dad rode his bike next to me the whole way cheering me on.

That’s so cool that you and your dad are exercising together! I wish my parents lived closer and were in any shape to accompany me on a run/ride. Enjoy that, you’re so lucky to have him 🙂

My trainer talked to me about me not eating enough before runs too, but it’s a tough balance! I had an apple with peanut butter before a 3 mile run, and she suggested I eat more. But the problem is my stomach gets weird when I run, and I think that’s from eating too much before. Just can’t win!

I love it! And I told him. I hope he knows it. It must be SO BORING to ride your bike with someone going so slow.

What does your stomach do when you run? Just cramp up after eating certain foods, or any food?

Did you manage to make it to that trail or did you stick around Guttenberg? I’m always impressed when you’re able to get out and run when you’re at the river!

I was hoping you would ask. We did stick to G-Berg. Dad and I were going to hit up the trail Saturday am, but everyone was worried we would be gone too long and hold them back from getting to the beach by 9:00. I was done running around 8:45. We got to the beach around noon.

It helps so much to have my dad with me for these runs, otherwise they would be quite boring since I am still figuring out the good paths!

Great job!!! Way to push through amidst all this brutal weather that we’ve been having, and how awesome that you got to spend so much quality time with your dad!!!!! Gotta love double-productive workouts like those. =D

I’ve definitely learned the hard way about skin chafing in the humidity. From last week I have what looks to be an enormous rash from my shorts and my sports bra chafing, and it is not pretty at all. Ever since then I’ve been going through my tube of BodyGlide like there is no tomorrow!!!!
