Lessons learned this weekend

(and re-learned)

  • I don’t have the same roller coaster tolerance I did as a kid. Gina and I were all gung-ho about the rollies, and fervently recalled our youthful resilience to them… but that is no longer the case today. Each one made me a bit more queasy than the one before (we rode six coasters total). I definitely stumbled out of Six Flags and it was not due to any alcohol consumption.
  • I really enjoy talking to people about FakeMeats.com… but boy, was that exhausting. We had a constant flow of people at our booth at the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade on Saturday from 11:00-3:30ish. I was talking so much my throat started to hurt. Most of the time we had a huge line of people waiting to talk to us…

  • People will wait in really long lines to get free samples and free reusable grocery bags

  • I have some truly amazing friends. Gina came all the way from New York City to spend the entire day Saturday helping with the Fake Meats booth at the parade. Erin came to the booth to say hi but ended up helping me put bags together while I tried to talk to her but didn’t really have a chance since our table was so busy. Our friends Eric and Abbie (and their daughter Alice) helped us set up the table, talk to people, apply Fake Meats tattoos, and Eric even made a 100 mile round trip to get more product.

  • My time with Gina is never long enough. This whirlwind jam-packed weekend was a lot of fun but I always feel really bummed out when our time together is over. Especially this time.
  • Internet time and exercising are the first things to go when I am exhausted. And I am. I am not even sure why I am posting this. I am struggling to find the time and interest in blogging and reading blogs right now.

Wow! Sounds like your booth was a big success! And you have a wonderful group of supportive friends – what a blessing.

I know what you mean about the roller coaster tolerance – I used to love coasters but now they just seem to whip my neck around way too much for comfort… Have the rides gotten wilder or does this mean we are getting old???

Don’t worry about losing your interest in blogs – give yourself a breather and it will come back…I had the same thing happen to me.

We were talking about when we were kids it was novel for a roller coaster to go upside down. Now that seems to be the norm! I am not sure what it is – all those up and down dips? I think it was the old fashioned wooden roller coaster that really did me in!

Thanks – I am hoping that will happen! Usually if I blog that I have nothing to blog about I start getting more in the mood to blog again 🙂

  2. I love that your booth was so popular! That’s awesome!!!

  3. Maggie says:

I’m with you on the roller coasters. I never liked spinning (even as a kid) and now I hate being upside down. I think I can still handle drops though, but only on a coaster. I have yet to try any of those rides like the Giant Drop.

    • kilax says:

Oh no… no spinning for me. No. Way. And drops? Nope! I cannot do either! Gina can’t do the spinning either so we made a good team. We wanted to ride the train too but ran out of time. Ha ha.

That’s awesome that your booth went so well. Talking to people for that long is tiring, I’ve been in the same boat before. I’d probably wind up with the same reaction to coasters, it’s been several years now!

Awesome!! It sounds like the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade was a huge success for FakeMeats.com!! YAY!!! That is so sweet of Gina to travel all the way from NYC to help out (but we know she is a sweetie)!! :o) And big cat paws up to Erin for stopping by to say hi but helping out instead!! Amazing friends just make everything SO much better!!
I was scared of roller coasters when I was little and I still am!!!
    =^..^=

  6. Erin says:

Getting old sucks! We should have taken better advantage of our roller coaster skills when we were younger.

I was EXHAUSTED on Sunday after being at our booth all day and I didn’t talk to nearly as many people as you did. I bet you’re done with interacting (virtually or in-person) with people for awhile. I would be!

  7. So glad to hear people were really interested in FakeMeats.com! I’m sure you’re exhausted after a day like that AND hosting a friend from out of town. You’re a rock star!

  8. I’m pretty sure tolerance for EVERYTHING drops as we get older, not just roller coasters.

Looks like a successful weekend! Don’t worry if you go through spurts of not having time to blog/read blogs. It’s ok. I’m pretty sure real life trumps blog life.
I LOVE roller coasters!! We didn’t go to an amusement park last year and I kind of miss it. Joey and I had our first date at an amusement park actually.

It sounds like veggie pride was a huge success!

I am so with you on rides – I used to love them all, and now I am much more wimpy about the spinning. I still like the coasters, but the SPINNING! I can’t 🙂

We’ll all be here when you are rested 🙂 I’m glad veggie pride was so awesome! I really wanted to go, but i had that whole top secret mission thing. And i am impressed with your 6 roller coasters…..i get nauseous on the merry-go-round…..

    • kilax says:

I still need to read your top secret marathon! I only saw it mentioned on Maggie’s blog… the one blog I had time to read today. I suuuuuuuucccckkkkk

  12. Emily says:

Congratulations on such a successful turnout at Veggie Pride! So glad you got to spend such quality time with Gina and other friends and family this past weekend, too. It’s very therapeutic, no? And I totally hear you on the roller coaster thing. My niece and nephew are teenagers and are very much into roller coasters, the faster and scarier the better, but I get motion sickness now just riding in CTA busses!

  13. J says:

Summer is filled with jam packed weekends! Hope you get some rest girly!

  14. Etta says:

I love roller coasters, but there are definitely some that I don’t like. I don’t enjoy feeling unsafe going 70MPH!

  15. Mica says:

It seems like your Fake Meats booth was a success! Hooray!

I’m definitely not a roller coaster person and never have been. I used to cry when my mom would try to get me to go on them with her. Actually, if pushed hard enough, I’d still probably cry.

  16. Kayla says:

I LOVE roller coasters and still have a good tolerance for them, but I can’t do many spinning rides anymore. There have only been a couple times when I truly didn’t feel well afterwards though. Glad the booth was a hit!!! 🙂
