Three skirts in three days

By , March 8, 2012 5:44 am

Well, three hand-me-down skirts in three days! Two from my fave coworker and one from Gina. Anyone else have some skirts they want to give me?

Tangent: speaking of alarm clocks, I am still getting used to the one on my smart phone. I needed to get up at 4:00 today, to drive myself to another town to catch the train at 5:00*. What time did I wake up? 4:36. I was happy I slept straight through the night, but geesh. I need to remember to set my alarm for AM.**

We actually had warm enough weather here this week (60°F, y’all) that I think I could have gotten by without tights. But I guess I am in the habit of wearing them now.

How long are a pair of tights supposed to last? I usually try to get at least 5 wears out of mine, but my fingernails**** have gotten so long lately I accidentally rip them when I grab the material to pull them up.

How long do your tights last? Do you have any fun colors?

I picked up a dark plum because there were in sale at Tarjay*****. Other than that, it is black and gray. The turquoise pair was tempting me though!

Here’s another fun question:

Does anyone else have to adjust their tights a few times a day so the crotch of the tights is not at their knees?!

*Yes, I made the train! Hit all the lights green and only sped by 5-10 miles over.
**This is why I look crazy in today’s photo (the last one). I had 10 minutes*** to get ready, and had my priorities straight – still had to take a picture.
***At least I had my outfit planned. Why can I plan outfits for three days but not plan meals for a week?!
****I tore my nice long thumbnail yesterday and am so bummed.
*****Which I have on in the last picture and have no idea if they work or not, but I did not have time to look in a mirror this morning.

my tights seem to last a long time. I make sure I don’t put them in the dryer. I also buy a size bigger so that they don’t creep down.

    I love the skirts.

    • kilax says:

I was wondering if I should buy a size bigger – if that might help. I wonder if anyone actually dries their tights. I am worried to even put them in the wash!

  2. shelley says:

Yes i have to adjust my tights..during running too..I HATE THAT!
BTW, I love the outfit on the left..soo nice!

  3. ChezJulie says:

I have to say, Kim, you look GORGEOUS! I can really see how lean you have gotten from working out with your trainer and eating healthy. I can see it in your face as well as your bod, and I like your sleek hairdo, too. Of course I always thought you were a cutie.

My tights last longer than that. I get them from the Gap. Give ‘me a try!

    • Christina says:

I second this! You look incredible!

    • kilax says:

You are too sweet to me. Thank you! 🙂 I do need to try some different tights. Thanks for the recommendation! I want to try on some colored jeans at Gap so maybe I be there anyway.

  4. Emily says:

You look so stylish! Love the outfits and the great accessories! Fabulous-o!

Yeah, I’m lucky to even get 5 wears out of each pair of tights. I get runs from them catching on my toenails, too. In general, I don’t enjoy wearing tights very much because they do require so much adjusting and get too constrictive after a full day. It’s always a relief to take them off at night!

    • kilax says:

Don’t you mean peel them off? Hee hee hee! That is how I feel at the end of the day for sure!

  5. Christina says:

You look Amazing!!! I really like your second outfit, i need a pencil skirt in that color and a red cardigan!!

  6. I love your outfits! You, Maggie, and Erin are totally inspiring me to get out of my comfort zone. Spring is coming! Time to re-work the wardrobe!

My tights tend to last a long time too, depending on the brand/color. I love to have a variety of colors and patterns depending on my mood–plus it helps dress up an otherwise drab outfit! I have thrown my Target tights in the washer and dryer and they clean up pretty nicely. I have long legs so I always go with a size up just to not have that annoying “low-hanging crotch” issue.

    • kilax says:

Are you going to have Erin come over and do a closet consultation? 🙂

OOo! Patterns! I want to try some sexy patterns! I should just go up a size.

  7. gina says:

    Hooooot!

I really love the first outfit! I want to pin it. How is the beige skirt working out for you? So glad you can get use out of it! YAY!

    • kilax says:

YOU PINNED ME?! What an honor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The skirt is working well! Thank you so much!

  8. Kelsey says:

    look fab girl!

i am constantly ‘adjusting’ my tights…

  9. Bethany says:

Cute skirts! I very, very rarely wear skirts/ tights but I know what you mean about fingernails…it’s so annoying! I actually tend to wear more leggings because they are thicker (warmer!!) 🙂

  10. Jen says:

You look awesome! I can’t wait to see you this weekend!

I don’t wear tights – I think they are evil.

  11. Kelly says:

    Cute outfits!

  12. Christina says:

Love the second outfit!! You are such a fashionista sista!

  13. You look so good in all those outfits. I really need to start putting myself together a little more for work.
I dont wear tights. I dont really need to dress too professional for work, so thats part of it. But when I had a job where I did, I was all about the bare legs, even in the winter. Tights and I just dont get along.

    • kilax says:

Thanks. I thought maybe if I dressed up it would make me like work more. No comment on that.

  14. Tracy says:

You look ADORABLE! The purple tights work.

Putting on tights is an art. You have to figure out the right method that works for your fingernails.

    • kilax says:

      Thanks Tracy!

One day last week I pulled them up and my fingers went RIGHT through them. I was so so so pissed off! Now I kind of roll my fingers under.

  15. Erin says:

I have tights that have last a REALLY long time. Of course, I have no fingernails so that helps. I also buy mine a size bigger so they don’t creep down (or give me horrible muffin top). Although, the last pair I bought from The Limited (I think) didn’t have enough elastic in them so they get all baggy around my knees. Boo!

All of these outfits look amazing. Pencil skirts are very flattering on you so I’m glad you got over your fear of them 🙂

  16. Maggie says:

I buy most of my tights from Target, and they last me awhile. Way longer than 5 wears. Or are you talking about pantyhose? From your picture though it looks like you are wearing what I usually buy. Although I keep my nails pretty short. Also I usually don’t do any adjusting once they are on. And I looooove wearing tights so I will probably wear them through Memorial Day if I can.

    • kilax says:

Hmm. What is the difference between tights and pantyhose? Since I generally do not know what I am talking about, I must be talking about the wrong thing!

      • Tina says:

Pantyhose are typically transparent. Tights are opaque to varying degrees and thicker than nylons/pantyhose to varying degrees.

  17. Tina says:

I love skirts. The best thing is how instantly dressy and classy people perceive a skirt or dress to be. Tights are a must in cooler weather and I’ve got to admit my boyfriend really likes nylons or tights. I opt for tights because they last longer. If I’m lucky, I’ll have a pair for years. For basics, the Assets brand by Spanx available at Target are amazing, if a little more pricy than the $5 fun color ones which are “low cut” so a size up is grand. I got argyle and hounds tooth, plus burgundy and green and a weird chestnut color recently. All in all, I’d say I have a couple dozen pairs. Especially right now with the whole “color block” look being huge, you can easily get away with wearing a couple non-neutrals together. Purple and red or blue and red or red and blue or green and purple. I could go on. Red and green should be avoided for obvious reasons, but otherwise, I love the pairing up colors.

You look awesome and so put together.

    • kilax says:

Yeah, whenever I wear a skirt people in the office think I have something important going on. I am not sure what that says about what they think when I am not wearing a skirt.

      Thank you 🙂

  18. J says:

Love the outfits! I don’t have any tights just leggings. I can’t wait to wear my skirts again when it starts to get warmer again!

  19. You need to buy Spanx tights!!! They are amazing and worth every penny. They last for at least a year for me and that’s saying a lot because I wear skirts and dresses daily! 🙂

  20. Amy says:

Love your new outfits – especially the middle one with the red sweater and camel skirt – very 50’s vibe you got there!
I actually have the same problem with tights and their crotches – why do they do that??? I have started wearing leggings with my boots so that I can wear my own socks and that seems to help the crotch issue.

  21. Sunny says:

You look awesome, lady! I love those outfits.

  22. sizzle says:

    Great outfits!

I tend to have tights (thicker than nylons) for a long time- sometimes a couple years. I just hand wash them.

Nylons on the other hand are harder to keep snag-free. I tend to just wear tights or go bare legged. Because I am a hussy.

  23. If I were a woman, I think I probably wouldn’t notice that they were down to my knees. Sometimes it’s the end of the day before I realize my boxers are on backwards…

You should wear more skirts, you look great!

(It seems weird having both of the above comments in the same comment box!)

    • kilax says:

You would notice! You feel like you can’t extend your legs to walk!

      Thank you 🙂 Not weird!

  24. Kristina says:

Great looks! I admit that I don’t love skirts – I would be so happy if I could wear jeans every day. No luck… Tights, however, do make me happy. Mine last a LONG time, but I don’t wear them every day. At the moment, however, I think that they all decided to get runs in them about the same time. Yikes!

    • kilax says:

Ha! That is how it seems to happen – all have runs at the same time! I keep stocking up at Target and keeping extra pairs at work just in case. There is something jagged under my desk at work and if I cross my legs and hit it it puts little tears in my tights! UGH!

  25. The Linz says:

All of your outfits look so professional and put together! I really wishing I had a job so I had a reason to get all dressed up. I honestly don’t have any causal clothes — and looking at your cute work clothes make me miss working in an office and piecing together outfits. Love the looks!! 🙂

    • kilax says:

      Thanks Linz!

I apologize if you’ve already talked about this and I’ve missed it – do you plan to get an office job while you are in GA?

  26. Etta says:

I haven’t worn a pair of tights since my senior prom in 2004. I don’t think the crotch area of tights are made to fit anyone comfortably.

You look great, though. They add a nice pop of color to your outfit.

  27. Mica says:

I have some plum (really bright!) tights that I bought. I’ve probably worn them too many times already and with outfits that don’t really match. (I bet people in my office know me as “purple tights girl.” HA!) I love colored tights, but I apparently suck at knowing when to wear them. I should get some more neutral colors because my NY resolution to wear skirts is hard in the winter! My legs are too cold!

    • kilax says:

Actually (and this is creepy stalkerish), I saw you were tagged in someone else’s pics on Facebook wearing a dress and those tights and I thought you looked fab! I was going to leave a comment on FB, but didn’t think it was appropriate 😉

  28. Megan says:

You look amazing!! Wow! I love the outifts, they are all super cute – especially the one with the scarf – it’s totally something I would wear but can’t ever figure out how to put together. I want those boots!!

  29. Kandi says:

I love tights. I have black, gray, red and black plaid, gray argyle… I have had most for two seasons except the black. I usually get apt 9 from kohls.
love your skirts. I want free skirts!
