Interesting things people have said to me today
And it’s only 12:00!
Comment: Well, it is Lent.
Context: I said in a meeting, “Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of Oreo and I didn’t eat one!”
Internal Response: Since when does everyone participate in Lent, and give up sweets? Ugh…
Comment: You’re just like me. You can’t wear high heels.
Context: Someone was surprised to see me in high heels. I told them my toes felt a bit smooshed.
Reference: You know in the end of The Devil Wears Prada when Meryl Streep’s character is so proud of Anne Hathaway’s character for rushing around Paris to warn Streep that they are trying to out her at the magazine (or whatever)? And Streep tells Hathaway she reminds her of a younger version of herself? Or that she sees herself in her? Or some bs like that? And Hathaway freaks out. YEAH. That is me when this person says crap like that. Even if it’s on a cosmetic level.
Internal Response: I will do everything I can to NEVER be like you.
Comment: You have a nice hourglass figure.
Context: Another female was complimenting me on my outfit (will post a picture tomorrow). Then we discussed Mad Men (have never seen it but am familiar with the style of the show) and how we like seeing hourglass-shape friendly clothing at Ann Taylor and J. Crew. This conversation lead to:
Comment: You have boobs and hips. Like me.
External Response: I like having boobs and hips. I think my husband likes it too!
I wonder if I will have to add anything else to this list by the end of the day…
Sounds like it will be a glass of wine kind of night 🙂
I didn’t eat any oreos yesterday, either, but I did make samoa bars over the weekend that I have to destroy first. Because when you waste dessert, a fairy dies.
A glass of wine? Isn’t a bottle a serving? Cute shoes by the way!
people are bananas. I always get the “you’re way to young for whatever it is!” (babies, home ownership, marriage….drinking….driving a car…..) I think this fast paced society has destroyed peoples abilities to think before speaking!
i gotta be honest the oreo thing was weird, i kept seeing people say stuff like have you been following your resolutions then come checkout the giant oreo…what? so you’ve been good come break it now?
Love the shoes!
Those are some unusual comments indeed. I agree with Gingerfoxxx’s comment that it seems like people move too quickly these days to think before they say anything. (Although, I am sure I myself have also been guilty numerous times of unintentionally saying something offensive without realizing it, argh.)
My husband says that Lent is just another word for “diet”. Let’s just say that we don’t do either one of those things in our household.
I sometimes wish I didn’t censor the inner voice, but I do. I suppose I should be thankful for the filter. I probably have job because of it…
I am forever amazed by the stupid/ridiculous things people say. Glad you have at least gotten some amusement out of all it! 🙂 And now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find an Orea – stat!
People are special. I’m pretty sure that the internal filter on some of them is totally broken and if it pops into their head it comes right out of their mouth. Either that, or they’re just so self-centered they think if it’s relevant to them it MUST be relevant to you!
I’ve noticed a lot of non-Catholic people have said they’re giving things up for Lent. Is it a second chance at the New Year’s Resolutions they’ve already failed at?
Oh gosh! I never thought of that, but that is a perfect description of what it seems to be!
I know a bunch of non-catholics who use lent as a reason to diet / restrict – and it’s usually them who talk about lent the most as compared to the actual catholics I know!
I like your shoes 🙂
Finally, boobs and hips are the best, although sometimes I wish I’d have a bit less hips so I’d be able to wear more of my clothes… but, I try to remember it’s what makes me feminine and me.
Hi Kim! I love those red heels.. did you get them recently?! I wore red heels at my wedding. I need to post more photos but I haven’t gotten them yet.
I got them at Target a few years ago. Can’t wait to see your pics!
