Who turns 100 today?
OREO!
Fortunately (or unfortunately), most Oreos are vegan. And I love Oreos.
I actually toured Kraft* last week. There is a special Kraft store on site where you can buy Kraft products at discounted prices. They had many types of Oreos, including the special Birthday Cake Oreos.
I did not buy any Oreos though. Why? I was trying to be good.
More importantly, why didn’t I track down someone from the Oreo division while I was there and ask them this important question – why do they even make non Double Stuf Oreos? Get real! Double Stuf is where it’s at! That is my only gripe when they come out with special flavors – they are usually not Double Stuf. I have to do so much work to take them apart and make them Double Stuf. Sigh.
There are actually a lot of interesting Oreo facts in this little article. I’ll let you read it for yourself, but I did want to mention two things! Oreos started in Manhattan, and there is a street named Oreo Way. I could not find much info on Oreo Way online (except it’s on 9th Ave between 15th and 16th streets or 9th Ave between 9th and 10th streets), so I may have to look for it in person.
Also, the article mentioned that –
According to the company, past market research found that while 84 percent of men ate the cookie whole, 41 percent of women pulled the cookie apart.
How do you eat Oreos? Pull them apart? Dunk them? Or do you not even like them?
I like to make one quadruple stuf – pull the cookies off of one side each of a double stuf and put them together. And one time this happened…
*Nabisco makes Oreos, Nabisco is part of Kraft
being me, I put the double stuffed kind in the refrigerator..I like em cold!
I haven’t had any Oreos in a while but sometimes I eat them whole, sometimes pull them apart, guess it depends on my mood!
Ha, that cracks me up!
I pull my cookie apart, and I find it very unsatisfying if it doesn’t come apart neatly.
Actually though, I ‘m not a huge fan of oreos, eesh!
I don’t mind oreos on their own, but i much prefer them mixed in things like ice cream or anything dubbed “cookies n’ creme”.
I’m also curious about the birthday oreos… I sort of want them.
The flavor is awesome. Just opening the package, you can smell the “birthday cake” filling. But there is not enough stuf! They are only single stuf 🙁
Oreos are one biters for me. I used to take them apart, but haven’t in years…
I actually prefer the regular to the double stuf. I like the cookie part more than the creme.
Who doesn’t like Oreos? I dunk mine. There’s just something great about when they reach the right level of soggy in ice cold milk. Mmmm!
Don’t care for the double stuff so much. I think the original Oreos with a large glass of cold milk is the way to go. Of course I am always open to having them crushed and in (on) ice cream. And then there’s those desserts too. Yum!
C is for cookie….
I eat my oreos whole, sometimes I dunk them in milk. But I can’t have them in the house very often b/c it’s scary how fast Matt and I can make a package disappear. I gave up chocolate for Lent, so no oreos, etc for a while but the golden oreos are pretty good…
Gluten free oreos?? I gave up sugar and chocolate…well sugar hopefully forever, but chocolate just for lent..you’re killing me…guhhh
I do love oreo’s well regular one’s not double stuff! Oreos are casein free to I think. I just eat them the regular way but usually hiding from my children.
Oreos and Girl Scout cookies are one in the same in our house … once you open them, we finish them off. That’s why we don’t buy Oreos and try to limit our Girl Scout cookie purchases. =)
Love Oreos mixed into ice cream. The quadruple-stuff is such a great idea – I am going to try it in the future and I know I’ll get hooked on them that way, too. =D
Let me know what you think when you try it! 🙂
I am not normal – I take a butter knife and pop off the cream, throw it away then just eat the cookie. I LOVE the cookie – I wonder if Kraft could send me the cookie part only? Ahh, a girl can dream. Now Nutter Butters, that’s a whole different story… 🙂
I would have never guessed oreos are vegan. What a surprise! Have you tried oreo truffles? I have a recipe on my blog that I made for Christmas gifts a few years back. They’re always a hit.
I eat half of them pulled apart and the other half complete.
I bought a package of them on Sunday at the store (they were on sale for $2.30). In fact, I hope to post my own thoughts on this great anniversary.
I saw those birthday cake oreos at the grocery this weekend, and SOMEHOW I mustered up the will power to leave them on the shelf.
YUM! I have not had an Oreo for YEARS. I had totally forgotten about Oreos. Now, I need to go to the store to get some!
I always twisted the two cookies apart, scrape the stuf off with my teeth, and then eat the cookies. Sometimes if I’m feeling like a cookie dilettante, I’ll eat the cookie as-is–with utter sophistication! 🙂
This is exactly how I eat my Oreos! The first part : ) Never sophisticated.
Me, too! (The pulling apart, scraping with teeth thing).
ha, this is how i eat oreos too! when i dunk them though i use a fork which i stick into the filling to keep the hands clean. oreos are a favorite in my home.
I’m not sure if I should admit to that, because after admitting to the fact that I had no idea what pop tarts are earlier on twitter I almost got my geek privileges revoked but… I don’t really like oreos… Am I the only one?
You aren’t! My best friend doesn’t really care for them either 🙂
And pop tarts are another thing I wish were not vegan. Stay away from them!
I like to dunk them in milk all the way until the bubbles stop but it makes my fingers cold. Or without pulling them apart if I don’t have milk.
Joey said he does the same thing you do only he eats the cookie sides first and then puts the two icing sides together.
One of my best friends met a woman in the food industry who worked for Kraft. She had this amazing scarf – like a dressy scarf – with pictures of Kraft products all over it. Isn’t that the coolest?
Super cool! I wonder if they had it in that store. They had Kraft apparel in there!
They must be doing up the birthday big at stores because Jason came home with a package of Double Stuf Oreos while he was buying me cold medicine at Walgreens.
So far the only Oreos I’ve liked are those fudge peanut butter ones. Yum!! Not a fan of regular Oreos.
The were handing out oreos, milk, and playing cards near my office yesterday to celebrate! As a kid I would make “quadruple stuffed” oreos by combining 2 double stuffed oreos…
Ok so are the special birthday cake oreo any different than the regular ones? I don’t think my grocery store carries them 🙁
Sounds like so much fun! I stopped buying oreos after Christmas to try and be better too!
The filling is supposed to take like birthday cake. Don’t bother with them 🙂 Keep staying away. Far, far away…
I’ve had to banish Oreos from my house. I love them too much. The Mint Oreos taste just like Thin Mints. They’re dangerous.
I pull mine apart. I eat all of the cookie halves and then eat the cookie + cream halves. Dunking in milk is also good, but since I can’t have milk…
Isn’t it great though, to have a thin mint option year round? LOL. Have you been trying soy/almond/rice/hemp/etc. milks?
