Training Week 122
This week ended up being mostly a rest week because of my weird swollen ankle. So let’s focus on something fun. Remember Olivier, the French man who helped me finish the NYC Marathon? I mentioned that I contacted him on Facebook in November… he just responded! How cool, since I am in NYC this week! He even said he often speaks of me! Aww.
Day 848 | February 13, 2012: 7 m run (6×4 minutes with 2 minute recovery)
Ugh, crappy run! My head was not in the game, even though I tried to get it there (and… it was windy and I felt feverish). Meh. I did not hit my goal pace for each interval, and I think this is my last speed workout before the race on 2/26!
2 mile warm-up, 6 x 4 minutes between 7:30-7:35mm, 2 minute recovery, 1 mile cool-down. How did I do? 7:28, 7:43, 7:34, 7:24, 7:27, 7:42
Distance: 7.0 | Start Temp: 32° | End Temp: 33° | Time: 1:02:43 | Avg Pace: 8:58
Day 849 | February 14, 2012: strength
I went to the Tuesday Strength Class since I would be traveling Wednesday. It was nice to see my friends from the running club who take the Tuesday class! Not so nice – my swollen ankle. Ouch. We used boxes and did a lot of jumps, but I had to modify for my stupid foot. I even skipped my run this day, to let it rest. Wah.
Day 850 | February 15, 2012: rest
My ankle was swollen enough to make me limp in to the office. Wah.
Day 851 | February 16, 2012: rest
Another day off… although walking around NYC seemed to make my ankle feel better!
Day 852 | February 17, 2012: rest
Day 853 | February 18, 2012: rest
Day 854 | February 19, 2012: Cherry Tree 10-Miler Relay (3.35 miles)
Week Summary: 10.35 miles
Wow, what a fun week. My ankle was so swollen Tuesday-Friday that I did not run. I spent my nights like this:
It finally went down Saturday, just in time for my race with Gina on Sunday! Boo yah!
Wow, i didn’t realize your ankle was giving you so much trouble!! I hope it feels better soon. And how cool that someone helped you finish the race! I sure hope that there is someone to help my finish my marathon!!
I hate that your ankle is still being such a pain. Hope it stays on its best behavior for your race.
I just went back and read your NYC marathon recap. That really sounds like an amazing race. And your balloon idea was fantastic! I will have to remember that!
Seriously, the only reason I ever found them was that balloon! Definitely do it if you run a race with a lot of spectators 🙂
Hope your ankle is better soon!!
Sounds like your ankle is starting to behave itself! Looking forward to your race recap from today.
First off, so VERY cool that you got in contact with Olivier!
Sorry your ankle was such a pita this week. Can’t wait to hear all about your race with Gina! (and you should SEE the gigantic bruise in the inside of my calf from straddling those damn plyoboxes. gross.)
Yeah, I was really careful when we were going side to side on the boxes – I hope the guys with the longer legs had an easier time at that than I did!
Take care of that ankle! Hope it feels better and the race went well!
Sorry your ankle is giving you so much trouble!
This looks painful! I hope it feels better soon. But I am still impressed: you mean that this person just checked his facebook after 3 months? around here we feel weird if we haven’t checked fscebook after 3 hours…
Yeah, I guess he hadn’t checked it in that long… really 4 months!!! I think he was in his 50s… so he is probably not as obsessed with Facebook as people our age. 🙂
Nice that Olivier got back to you! I hope the race with Gina went well and that the ankle is better with all the rest you gave it this week!
That’s a lot of rest for you. Glad you are taking it easy and letting your ankle heal. I’ve been a bit sick this week and taking too many rest days myself. I’m still not sure I’m well enough to run. 🙁
Are those Star Wars PJ’s?
Yes indeed! You gave them to me!
