Friday Question #181
What would be in your ideal trail mix?
Steven bought this awesome tropical trail mix a few weeks ago. And I picked all the fruit out of it (picked around the tree nuts).
I assumed me doing that was sort of annoying, so I bought individual bags of the things I would want in my ideal trail mix – banana chips, pineapple chunks, golden raisins, dried mangoes, and cocktail peanuts. I think the only thing missing is chocolate chips!
Gosh. Now I really want to add some chocolate chips.*
It seems my trail mix is all about the sweet tastes with a slight hint of salt. Is your mix on the sweeter or saltier side?
*I actually wrote this post last Sunday. I added chocolate chips on Wednesday – no bueno. Chocolate chips not necessary.
I would want cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts, dried cherries, dried cranberries, golden raisins, and dark chocolate chips. 🙂
I don’t like dried fruit at all. V does, I should see if he would want something like this.
I am *yawn* BORING – I love peanuts raisins and m-n-ms (or chocolate chips). But each bite MUST have all 3 things represented. I am so weird.
The best bites are the ones with the most flavors in them!
In general, I have more of a “salt” tooth than a sweet tooth. But when it comes to trail mix I am all about the sweet stuff. I pick out all of the M&Ms and the banana chips!
I have become ADDICTED to banana chips lately. This must stop! (I mean, I still eat regular bananas too, but it’s getting a bit out of hand 🙂 )
Mine HAS to have chocolate! I used to make trail mix with Kashi’s Heart to Heart cereal, chocolate chips, dried cherries or cranberries and almonds. I need to start that up again, thanks for the reminder!!
raisins, almonds, cashews, dried dates and banana chips…i want some now!
I like chocolate chips, almonds, sunflower seeds, popcorn and peanuts. Yum.
POPCORN?! BRILLIANT!!!
I like a mix but if I had to choose would go salty. Costco has a Fruit and Nut mix that I absolutely love. The bad thing is that once I open that giant bag I can’t stop!!
Yeah, I definitely have to get a serving out then lock this stuff up. It’s hard to stop eating it; it’s so good.
I like both salty and sweet, but they HAVE to be separate. If its sweet, i LOVEEEEE yogurt chips, and if its salty, then SESAME STICKS!!!!
I bought a HUGE bag of sesame sticks when I was at Woodman’s on Sunday. All I will say is… that was a BAD idea 😉
OR a DELICIOUS idea!! 🙂
Mostly sweet with a little salty!
Cashews, almonds, dried pineapple, pistachios, dried apples, and a few pieces of semisweet chocolate.
I HATE dried cherries. They totally gross me out.
Good question! I like trail mix that has M&Ms in it but not when there’s too much dried fruit. It’s a delicate balance. Also, I prefer the M&Ms to peanuts ratio be closer to 1:1 🙂
Have you seen these:

One is Mix my Granola and the other is Mix my Trail mix. Same concept – MixMyGranola is AWESOME but $$$
I have! I have never tried them for the $$$ reason. It would be nice to have someone else make it 🙂 I know some bloggers were doing giveaways from them. I should ask if they will let me do a review/giveaway.
Is peanuts, cashews, m&m’s and chocolate chips sufficient for “trail mix”? I really don’t love dried fruit, but if I had to include some, perhaps dried mangoes or apricots. Oh and preferably peanut butter m&m’s. Clearly I’m healthy…
Want!
I love trail mix. I like mine to be a mixture of sweet and salty. I like cashews, almonds, chocolate and peanut butter chips. I DO NOT like raisins. At all. Gross.
P.S. I just wanted to say that I just found your blog and I live in the Chicago suburbs too! Can’t wait to read more!
Yay! Another Chicago blogger! I am off to check out your blog right NOW! 🙂
Hmmmn, mine would be kind of opposite of yours. A good mix of nuts – almonds, cashews, macadamias, etc., maybe some pumpkin seeds, a handful of dried cherries, and of course, chocolate chips!
I’m not a person who eats much fruit, but I usually like some of the dried chewy kind that shows up in different trail mixes. Raisons and (real) M&M’s are good too. (I like the Kirkland trailmix at CostCo. but there are too many of the biggest nut in there [don’t know what kind]).
It’s not healthy, but since I was a young boy scout, I’ve loved this mix the others called
– Trix cereal
– peanuts
– plain M&Ms
– raisins
Although this version of the mix sounds good, too

Aww, “Recipes 4 Children.” LOL. I have never heard of putting Trix in trail mix. Good idea!
