After Christmas Blues

By , December 27, 2011 6:29 am

Does anyone else get the after Christmas blues? You know, that general feeling of sadness after all the planning, excitement and fun of the holidays is over? It’s time to return to normalcy, put away the holiday decorations (shudder) and go back to work (double shudder).

The holidays provide such an overload of excitement… it’s hard to get back in to the “same old, same old” groove. At least for me it is. I am very much a person who needs to have things to look forward to. And I do right now! I really do – a trip to Iowa next month to see my family for the holidays, and a trip to NYC in February.

But for some reason this year, I was starting to miss the excitement of the holidays on Christmas Day. That’s too early! I was dreading going back to work, taking down the decorations… dealing with other normal day to day things. I guess I just wish I had more relaxing, carefree days, like Christmas Day was. Maybe I should focus on getting more days like that in my life.

Anyway… at least this all means I had a good Christmas, right?! Here are some pictures for you!

Family photo – even Data participated:

And yes – Data got back on Santa’s good list this year, and got his stocking. Phew.

No blues girl! Like with marathons, there is somewhat of a let down but look at it this way: our very mild December was like chopping off an entire month of what is nastiest about winter: the uber cold, hard-to-run in weather!
I’m just giddy because I’m rid of my MIL for awhile now. Always a good thing!

I did want to say – it very much feels like the after marathon blues. So funny.

I keep thinking that no snow this December means the next few months are going to be hell 😛

Looks like your Christmas was great, and you got some wonderful loot! I get the blues after the holiday too, it’s just sad when the tree goes in the garbage and the house gets back to normal. Christmas time makes the winter bearable, now it’ll just be ugly and grey.

Ooooh, what else did you get?? That is quite the haul! And you finally got your pink shoes 🙂

I totally understand the post-celebration blues. I don’t have them so much this year but I have gotten them in the past. Just start getting excited about your other upcoming trips and you’ll be past it in no time!

I got three Phillipa Gregory books, the AIA DC Guide, a daily calendar, Metallica Guitar Hero, four DVDs (Tron, The Duchess, Black Swan and Zombieland), a Star Wars tin lunch box, two other necklaces in my stocking from my mom, a 23″ Dell Monitor, bike gloves, water bottle cage for my bike, a neat mug (http://www.po-selected.com/index.php?p=6&id=2531), a new mouse… and Steven and I got two new pans and a recessed wall mount for the TV upstairs (he asked for that). It seems like I forgot a few things. What did you get? 🙂

My husband’s family always plans a mini trip to Lake Geneva in early January and my birthday is January 6 too. I don’t think I get the blues until mid-January when all the fun stuff is over until spring. Haha

  5. Kelly says:

I love your shoes! I need to get to the after Christmas sales and get a new set, too.

I have been wanting those shoes FOREVER! I love the way they look… I might never wear them, and just admire them. Ha ha, just kidding.

I definitely have the post-Christmas blues. I wasn’t even that much in the holiday spirit this year (not because I didn’t want to), which I’m getting ready to write about here soon. Next year, I need to remedy this.

I LOVE that cute pose of Data in your picture. Like he’s human, along with everyone else. 🙂

    • kilax says:

I hope next year is better. And that you still have a good NYE!

We thought Data looked so funny in that pic! He’s like “Don’t forget about me!”

I think I would be sad to see Christmas end if we didn’t have to travel. It’s a long drive and this year we had a 2 month old with us. Not fun.

I was looking at quilt patterns this morning and thought of you. Have you ever thought about having your race shirts made into a quilt? You’ve got to have a closet full of them by now!

    • kilax says:

I think part of the reason this Christmas was so chill is because we did not have to drive 5 hours to IA then go to a zillion different things. I think that is fun, but the travel is stressful.

I have been wanting one of those quilts for so long! I have a ton of race shirts. I don’t even wear them anymore!

yes! I looked at John on Christmas morning and said, “we spend SO much time getting ready for it, and it’s over in the blink of an eye.”

I always feel a bit blah this week. But I kind of welcome the blah, since it comes with relaxation.

Can you run this week? Friday maybe? I’d love to run my 1000th mile with you!

  9. Stephany says:

I have the after-Christmas blues, too. Luckily, I have a trip to Orlando next week to look forward to but then I have a long stretch of NOTHIN’ until my cruise in May. I need to make some things happen between now and then!

  10. J says:

I am not looking forward to going back to work – I had totally checked out about 2 weeks before christmas. I love the holidays but I don’t enjoy the hustle and bustle and stress. I am glad I have a few days off after Christmas to rested up.

  11. martymankins says:

The blues… kind of. Especially if there is a lot of emotion on Christmas day… good or bad. Most of mine is wishing I had more time off.

New Asics… awesome. And love that pic of you and Data. Glad to hear he got his stocking.

    • kilax says:

Yeah. The more time off thing too. Although, I would rather be at work now, since so many other people are off 😉

      Thanks 🙂

  12. Courtney says:

It looks like you had a great Christmas! I am so glad Data was able to behave himself so Santa Paws/Claws could stop to see him!!
You are looking fantastic!!! I really like the picture of you and Data, too cute!!
    =^..^=

  13. Paige says:

Looks like a lovely Christmas. And yes! I totally get sad after Christmas.

  14. Amy says:

In spite of the blues, it looks like you had a nice holiday. And did I mention you are looking tiny? Especially that picture with your new running tights!

    • kilax says:

We did have a great time!

And thank you – I am trying hard to eat healthy and get to a normal weight. I still have a long road ahead of me, but thank you for noticing my progress so far! 🙂

  15. gina says:

OH YAY! You got great stuff! Sorry for the bluesy feeling. I have it, too. Someone on my street already threw out their tree and I almost cried when I saw that! I’m getting through it by thinking about Feb!

    • kilax says:

I saw someone had their tree out during my lunch time run! LAME! 🙁

CANNOT wait for the Feb trip. I am hoping it will be Thurs night – Monday. Almost three full days of FUN!!!!

  16. I agree with you, I have the after Christmas Blues bad!!! Although, I have to admit since I love routine I am looking forward to getting back into the groove of things and setting some goals for 2012 to get myself excited!

  17. Laura says:

Oh yeah. I can totally relate to those kind of blues. I always equate it to the post-prom blues.

  18. ChezJulie says:

Looks like a great Christmas. And it sounds like you got a lot of great presents from people who know your tastes well!
