Steven and I decided to cut down our own Christmas tree this year, instead of buying one pre-cut from a lot. We live in the middle of nowhere, so there are actually quite a few places for us to choose from close to home (and we even have an orchard in our backyard, but they don’t sell Christmas trees).
We decided to go to Pioneer Tree Farm, which ended up being super charming and fun! They had a horse-drawn trailer to ride on,
a candle making booth,
a booth all about chickens,
a blacksmith exhibit,
and crafts and goodies to eat! But the trees weren’t actually what we wanted – they were the thin, long needles, and we liked the shorter, sturdier ones. Hey, at least these people found the one they wanted…
So despite having a lot of fun, we left. Luckily, we had seen a sign on the road for another tree farm and went back to it. It ended up being someone’s home!
They only showed us the first lot, and right away, we saw a lot of trees we liked.
And we easily found “the one.”
We took turns cutting it down.
And even had some special helpers. The people who lived in the home were very nice too.
And we (gulp) took the tree home on my car*.
We started setting the tree up Saturday night.
Steven is letting me put all of my Star Wars ornaments on the tree this year! We put the lights, star, and Star Wars ornaments on on Saturday and finished with the balls on Sunday.
It’s so hard to get a good picture of a Christmas Tree all lit up! I really love ours this year though. And the way it makes the house smell.
*I was really nervous about this, as I somewhat baby my car, but it all turned out okay.
I had to laugh at that tree on top of the van. Too funny. Glad you found a tree you like. We cut our own once in my grandmother’s woods. It was free :). My dad picked me up a fake tree for my new house. Turns out I’m allergic to the smell of pine so fake tree it is. Good thing joey doesn’t mind.
Pretty tree! We put ours up over the weekend, too. Next year only the top half will be decorated since the baby will be mobile. How does Data like the tree?
Data does not seem as interested in the tree as year’s past! I am waiting to come home and see ornaments on the ground, chewed up stockings and a strewn about nativity!
The tree is so pretty. I have never had a real one and always think maybe I’ll try it next year. It has never happened yet because we always put our tree up before Thanksgiving (we do Christmas with my family on Thanksgiving) and I’m not sure it would last long enough.
Those chickens are so pretty! And your tree looks awesome!
What a pretty tree! (We have lots of star wars ornaments too!)
Oh wow, what a pretty tree! You found a nice place for the tree, too! I wanna sit down in front of it and be all cozy!
I really like your Christmas tree! It looks like y’all had fun hunting for it and cutting it down! I wish we had fun places like that around here!! Your tree looks very pretty and your Star Wars ornaments look great!!!
=^..^=
p.s… you are ADORABLE in your hat!!
Looks like a fun day! We’ll have to put up a tree this year since it’s Ayla’s first!
What a fun experience! And the tree you got looks great.
Nice tree! Love the Star Wars theme!
Cutting down your own tree sounds so charming and romantic! I think we’re going with a very small, potted tree this year, if we ever get our acts in order.
That tree those people got is HUGE. I can only imagine the house they have!
I like the idea of cutting down your own tree more than the reality of it. Neither Darcy or I want to saw the thing down!
that tree on top of the minivan looks like something out of the movie christmas vacation! we thought about cutting down our own tree this year, then realized there are no places anywhere near our home where this would be possible.
love the hat!
Sounds like a great adventure! We are lame – we travel and rarely buy a tree, although we do decorate! That has yet to happen – maybe the weekend?
I did like the four-legged-helpers at the second place. Hopefully they gave their ‘wag of approval’!
Adorable!!! Great tree!! And ornaments.
What a beautiful tree! I think you found the best one! 🙂 And your hat is so, so cute!!! Where did you get it?
Thank you! And thank you! I actually bought the hat at a jewelry & accessories show, which is happening again this weekend (http://www.jfashow.com/). But I have also seen similar hats at JCPenney.
Love your starwars themed true!! And that first place sounded like a fun little adventure even if you didn’t get your tree there. But glad you were still able to find one perfect for you guys!
Sorry that I have been so absent from commenting.
I love that you cut down your own tree! Too bad the fun farm didn’t have the right kind, but I agree, those trees look kind of…sad or something. The short, fat needles are the best, and they make the house smell the best (in my opinion, as you know, a non-Christmas tree expert). I was thinking Harrison and I would put up a tree this year, but I hate the idea of putting it up and having to take it down when we get back in January from break. Instead, I’ll just listen to Christmas music. And my officemate and I put a fake poinsettia in our office, ha!
No need to apologize!
We don’t get a tree when we aren’t going to be around either. We only have one this year because Steven’s dad and bro will be here on Christmas. Otherwise… it’s the small fake tree. I think this type makes the house smell the best too. And I need a fake poinsettia – I think they are poisonous to cats so I never have one!
New follower here… OMG, where did you find those amazing Star Wars ornaments? My husband is a huge Star Wars geek and I’m a big Christmas geek so this is the perfect combo.
Thanks for finding my blog! You are a fellow Chicagoan, right? (well, I live in the suburbs).
Hallmark has been making these ornaments since the late 90s! You can find a lot of them on eBay, and they still make a few new ones each year! Check them out!!! http://www.starwarsornaments.com/
Yes, fellow Chicagoan (well, ex-Chicagoan currently living in the suburbs also). I’m so happy to have found these! I’ll have to scope it out and pick some up. Thanks so much!
